Northcoast Knittery is a delightful yarn shop. It is located in the heart of Historic downtown Eureka. The owner, Laura was very welcoming with a superior knowledge of yarn and had a fabulous selection of patterns from which to choose. The store is stocked with large selection of a variety of fibers. My purchase came in a lovely bag artfully embroidered with the store name. I learned that she also has an online store and will ship directly to you. I look forward to visiting this shop next time I am in the area.

Nice high, quality yarn. Ok staff but not very knowledgeable about the yarns offered but they do put forth a faux effort(if I ask if a yarn can be felted up or shrinks when washed, sales staff show me a sample garment, I am expecting that result, so its understandable that I get a little upset to find the item did shrink … a lot. Yes, my fault. I should have know better). Laura knows her stuff so if you can hold off purchasing until you speak with her … Love the new location with the big windows and natural light.

This is my favorite yarn store on the planet. And I’ve been to them all. Every yarn is wonderful and they always have a fresh new yarn in store. They have items that are outrageous and others that are affordable. Best thing about the shop is how nice and helpful everybody is. Classes are good and they have a good variety of instructors and skill levels. Location is perfect. You can get a coffee or bagel next door.

This place gets 5 stars just for existing. If you’re a knitter/crocheter, you understand what I mean. But it also gets 5 stars for being a very nice store. They are small but they offer quite a selection of different yarn in different price ranges. And they have nice accessories. The coolest part of their store was their Knitting Bar. What a fun idea… not just for stores but also for parties. They have a nice round glass table at standing height. The idea of this bar is to give you a chance to try 4 different yarns and needles they offer. The set-up: 4 martini shaped glasses; 4 tall shot glasses to match the other glasses and these glasses hold the knitting needles when not in use; 4 different yarns(one in each of the martini glasses). And then you walk around and knit each yarn. It gives you a chance to try different weights, textures, etc. I want to do this at home with friends. The young lady working is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I will definitely stop here when traveling up there again. The one thing I don’t like is the way they display their prices. You have to look for the list on the side of the shelving unit and look up the yarn name. I prefer the prices to be on the skein or bins labeled so it’s all right there instead of looking down a list. Otherwise — a very nice store. This store has ambiance, style, warmth and ladders(not steps) above going to Walmart or stores that carry stuff like lion brand or the other cheaper grades. I was surprised to find this shop up there. I travel up their almost every 4th of July week. I hope to be up there on a Thursday next year so I can partake in the Sip and Knit evening…

I consider NCK my go-to yarn store in Eureka. I am a regular at the weekly Sip and Knit, and have attended numerous classes there. Laura, the shop owner has gone out of her way to create an inviting space that is as fun as it is functional. She and her staff are knowledgeable and friendly. It still blows me away that, after knitting seriously for 25 years, that there is a shop of this caliber so close to me, where I have attended classes given by such knitting luminaries as Cat Bordhi, Ann Budd and Franklin Habit. When these people teach classes, they usually do so in much larger metropolitan areas, so to have this resource right in my own back yard is a treat. That said, classes by the staff are also well done. They regularly offer classes on spinning, sock and glove knitting, beaded knitting, needle felting, crochet and basic knitting skills, basic weaving and many others, so there is something for the absolute beginner to the expert and everything in between. The yarn selection is quite fine. The shop carries Rowan, Tahki/Stacy Charles, Artyarns, Filatura di Crosa, Ella Rae, Sublime, Fyberspates and many many more. Again, having come to Eureka orginally from the SF BAy Area, where I had to drive through distance and traffic to get to a good yarn store, to have one so close where I can actually handle yarns I had only previously seen online is really quite wonderful. Lastly, I want to mention the community. Not only is there a weekly Sip and Knit on Thursday nights, the shop offers movie nights and designer meetings that are free to all. It is community of people where one can discuss design ideas, solve problems, trade stories and just have fun. All comers are welcome and we have our regular attendees, but if you are an out-of-towner looking for some knitting fun, come on in!

Before coming here, I’d tried to teach myself how to knit a few times to no avail. Enter: NorthCoast Knittery. I heard that they offered a beginning knitting class and decided to sign up. The teacher was very patient and easy to understand. Also, the needles and yarn I purchased are beautiful. Now, on to knit my first scarf!

I adore this yarn shop. I went in last August having no idea how to knit and they taught me – for free. Yes, you have to buy the yarn and needles from them for the free lessons, but you need those anyway so I still consider it free. The yarn is beautiful and it seems as though they’re always getting something new. But the«Wow» factor for me comes from their customer service. I am always greeted the minute I walk in the door. Every employee is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. What’s more, they’ve created a comfortable gathering place for fiber artists of all types. Unlike other yarn shops in the area, I feel welcome at the Knittery, and that is why they will always be the first place I go for yarn and needles in this area.

This was a cute little yarn shop that we stopped in to while on vacation. I found some nice alpaca sock yarn here in a stunning colorway — plus a decent selection of yarns and brands and colors. Most familiar to me, one or two that were new, plus some local handspun and fibers. Service was friendly and attentive and it’s a lovely space in one of my favorite Old Town buildings. Looks like it would be a comfy place to sit and knit.

I am really picky about my yarn shops. With that being said, this shop is five stars. I thought the selections were incredible with a great variety of colors and textures. I chose a yarn that was new to me and the wonderful manager taught me to knit the new type of yarn! Also, he was so pleasant to visit with and my husband enjoyed talking to him.

This store is all about top notch quality. For those who are looking for an amazing selection of top quality yarns, this is your place. Plus, the staff is very friendly and they offer great opportunities to learn without paying extra! if you buy some stuff, they will teach you for free. Plus on Thursdays, they have a knit and sip night where one can knit and drink wine. Not a bad way to get your knitting done!
