I ordered a Chicken-N-Broccoli spud. I had heard a lot of good things about this place, so I was excited to try it out. However, after dining there, there were a few things I wasn’t a big fan of. *The cheese. With my spud, the cheese was that thick liquid cheese that comes in a big can from Sam’s Club. *The chicken. Yes, it’s real chicken, but have you ever ordered chicken from Subway and watched them microwave a little cup of wrinkly chicken that’s been sitting out for who knows how long? That’s what this chicken was. It certainly wasn’t cooked to order, and it was gummy. *The price. It was $ 6.48 for a decent-sized baked potato with microwave chicken, canned cheese sauce, and mushy over-cooked broccoli. No sides, no drink. I ordered a drink with mine so the total was about $ 8. I personally feel like that specific spud should have been priced more around $ 5, because the quality was really lacking. If it was real fresh chicken, with broccoli that was cooked correctly, with real cheese, then I would’ve been far more willing to pay the asking price.

A last minute family gathering had me scrambling for dinner for 18 last Friday evening. Spudz N Stuff came to my rescue. With little notice, they arrived promptly at my requested time, broke out the food, opened all the containers and even arranged it into a buffet with plates, napkins and utensils including serving pieces. We had pulled pork(delicious) baked potatoes and enough good salad for all including two homemade salad dressings. The buffet had huge potatoes, the pork, butter, chopped green onions, two kinds of real cheese, jalapenos, chopped tomato, salsa with a kick, and delicious sauteed mushrooms in a great sauce. There was more, I just can’t remember it all. And I couldn’t believe it, but the big meal fed 18 with leftovers and cost only $ 132 plus tip. Less than $ 8 per person. That’s McDonald’s pricing except that we got a real meal… and it was delivered. This was our third time to use them and I see no reason to stop now.

I stumbled upon Spuds N Stuff a few weeks ago. I went there yesterday to refresh my memory for my first Unilocal post(which is exciting). First of all, the concept of anchoring the whole menu on a baked potato is both creative and enticing. At first I was skeptical because the baked potato is more of a side dish. However, once you add the meat, cheese, onions, peppers, salsa(whatever else you can think of) the dish becomes a main course. They also have gyros, subs, and pitas. I am working my way through the menu because the food, by far, is both a great idea and delicious. The atmosphere inside this quaint Chez Pomme de Terre is casual but clean. Being close to campus(USI), the ambiance resembles that of a coffee house or small sandwich shop. With that said, there is not a great deal of seating. However, they do offer carry out and delivery. The service is very friendly and the food comes out relatively quickly. They do inform you if your food is taking longer than expected, which is always a plus in my book. Right now, Spudz N Stuff offers promotions and discounts almost every day of the week.(I think Monday is free brownie day). I gave Spudz N Stuff a 5 out of 5 stars(I don’t think it is because this is my first post). The first time I ordered a spud, I was reminded of the kabab shops during my study abroad experience in Scotland. While the space is not the greatest(as the case with most hole in the walls), the creativity, good service, and relaxed atmosphere gives this local hot spot the competitive edge. If you are the West Side of Evansville, I highly recommend Spudz N Stuff. It is totally worth it.
