Sakoontra Restaurant

To All Sakoontra patrons and friends, our favorite Thai restaurant is now Sakoonthai, now open at the Colonade, Union Mill, Clifton. Have just been there, and had seafood tomyum, Crispy fried fish, yum watercress, crabmeat fried rice & mango sticky rice! Still the best around the area! Enjoy! :)

Nooooo! This was the best Thai restaurant in the area hands down. I really hope the chef and recipes find another home. No one made fried green beans, crispy duck, honey shrimp, or a number of other specialties nearly as well as Sakoontra. I live closer to two other Thai restaurants and neither are as good. What a loss.

10÷27÷14 update: Sakoontra is closed! I think for good, they suggested other thai places in the area but sign is taken down and everything is cleared out. I was sad to see them go.

CLOSED FOR GOOD so where’s the checkout button. I made the trip to Sakoontra but discovered it closed for good. The sign was off the building and the place seemed like a ghost town. Hope this review saves someone from making the drive for nothing. Giving them a 5 star review one last time!

I went here last night hoping to get my Thai fix on but unfortunately this place is CLOSED for GOOD! This place was one of my go to Thai restaurants in my area! They had decently good food and impeccable service! This place was convenient because they also delivered and not most Thai restaurants do! It is very depressing to know another good Thai restaurant in my area is closed down!!! WHYYYY?!? :(

I ordered food and had it delivered and it was really great Thai food.
The next weekend I called to have some food delivered and I’ve discovered that this restaurant has closed.
The building has been cleared out and the sign has been removed, not sure if they are closed for good? Perhaps they have moved?
This location is closed!

I’ve had a very pleasant experience the few times I’ve been there. I especially love the duck Curry which is very spicy but I can’t stop eating it. The appetizers are nice and I think it’s a good value for the price.

Unfortunately this restaurant has lost its lease and closed. I hope they open up somewhere else. I will miss the food.

I am a huge fan of Thai food and I’m the kind of guy who likes even the most mediocre rated Thai food any day over American food.
The reason I gave 1 star for this restaurant is not entirely for the food but the service. My friend and me had ordered a take out at this place since we were running short of time and had decided to eat on the go. But some time later we had a change of mind since we had got some extra time and decided to have the food at the restaurant. After gong to the restaurant and having requested the manager/​owner for this, he blatantly refused ! This was around 5PM and the entire restaurant was empty, so it wasn’t like the restaurant was running short of tables and there were 100s of people waiting outside.
We were shocked to see the owner/​manager yelling at us on the top of his voice ! He was like «If you had ordered for take out, you should take the food out, so please pay and get out ! » I have never been treated and yelled like this at a restaurant ever in my life. I did not want to create a scene there so quietly paid for the food and left. And the food didn’t taste great either and we struggled to finish the entire portion.
Will avoid this place at all costs in the future. The last thing you need when you visit a restaurant is to be yelled at by the staff for requesting for a service.

The service has improved a lot in the last 1 – 2 years. This is a nice place to go for groups. Spacious, and the wait staff are very accommodating.

Needed a change from our usual and found this place. Ratings were VERY iffy. Called in for delivery, placed my order, was told it would be a 45 minute to an hour wait. Food arrived right at the hour mark still hot and fresh.
We ordered the Pad Thai and some Satay. Oh man, the Pad Thai was so delicious. Each bite was full of flavor, made me miss NYC~ We also tried the Gang Karee Gai since we love curry, the flavor was good, but the chicken was kind of dry.
Overall, we were definitely pleased with our food & will definitely be ordering here again! Will try out their Thai Ice Tea next time since that’s one of my favorite drinks ^^

This is the first time I’ve actually reviewed a business on Unilocal although I’ve been using Unilocal for reviews for years.
I just feel like I need to share my recent experiences with everyone.
I’ve been ordering food from Sakoontra for several years now and they have usually been very good with food quality, taste, and service. Most recently, however, I ordered food online for delivery and it took over 2 hours to arrive. I called the restaurant several times and they deflected responsibility to the delivery driver. The driver finally called me about 1.5 hours into the wait and claimed that he was given the wrong address. Once the guy finally arrived, he didn’t apologize at all and simply handed me the food and check. I asked if he was going to give me a discount for the absurdly long wait time and he said he would remember next time I order since they have my information and take care of me.
Fast forward to today and I just ordered again. I told the lady on the phone what happened last time and she said she’d just have to take my word for it since I couldn’t provide an accurate description of the driver from like 3 – 4 weeks ago.
I was trying to tell her that I’d ordered before in the past and the service and food was good and maybe it was just a bad night but she rudely interrupted me and just asked for my order, offering a 10% discount.
Don’t expect them to take care of you if they screw something up.

Excellent spot for Thai! I’ve ordered the Sakoontra Duck back to back and it was exceptional! I’ve also had their Panang Chicken and it was satisfying. Everytime I’ved ordered here they’ve prepared my order WITHIN 10 MINUTES!!! The Service doesn’t get any better. It’s disappointing to see some of the bad reviews I must say. For example one girl wrote that she ate here 4 different times and that the food was amazing! She then rated this place 1 star because her tummy was upset the next day. Get a clue lady! You’re stomach can’t handle spicy food, you should be banned from Unilocal you dirty troll!
Do yourself a favor, eat here and you WILL BE SATISFIED! If you’re not satisfied then consider jumping off a bridge because you’re life is meaningless anyways.

I really like the service at this restaurant. The wait staff is very pleasant, and they are good at coming by to check on you without hovering. The food is pretty good overall. This isn’t my first pick for Thai food in the area, but the food here is seasoned well and tastes good. My only complaint, and this could be personal preference, is that I wish they weren’t so heavy-​handed with the oil. My favorite dish in any Thai restaurant is Pad Kee Mao or Drunken Noodles, and although I enjoy the flavor of this dish at Sakoontra, I find the wide rice noodles to be saturated with oil.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Mussamun curry dish. I was disappointed they didn’t have a chicken version but the beef was excellent. This is my favorite Thai sauce and they delivered!!!
Service was slow, even though the place was practically empty. But they were friendly and the food made up for the delays.

Enjoyed the food and great service here. Very friendly, drinks always topped, packed your food for you at the end, and never waited long for anything.
Food: Chicken Pad Thai — I usually always order pad thai at every Thai restaurant I go to, so honestly can’t differentiate them from another. All taste similar but still good. Bf ordered the Sakoontra Duck (meh…) wouldn’t order it again. It wasn’t terrible but just tasted like general tso chicken but with duck and super spicy to a point where my bf’s bald head was glistening in sweat lol so don’t do it if you can’t handle the heat.
Overall, good experience but would only return if we were in the area again.

I’ve come to Sakoontra a few times with my family. It’s a small restaurant located in Fairfax, in the shopping complex with Costco. It’s much bigger inside than I initially thought. Plenty of room for hungry customers.
The service has always been good, staff is friendly and attentive. The food is decent too. I like their take on familiar dishes such as Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and their Spring Rolls. The Panang Curry is probably my favorite dish there. Good Thai restaurant option in Fairfax.

I started with tom kha soup — tasted great!
Risked ordering the special of the day which was fried striped bass. I was afraid the fish was frozen. The waitress said it was fresh from the market, but I hear that every where I go so I am always a bit skeptical. It was a gamble that paid off because striped bass was FRESH and delicious. I ate it so fast. The sauce completely melded with the fish and it melted as I ate it. I hope its being offered next time I go.
The sauce on the pad thai was too rich and sweet for me so I don’t think I’ll get that next time I come back.

The Sakoontra fried rice and the Panang curry were delicious. The dinner portion of rice was enormous. It can feed two people and so tasty we didn’t leave any on the plate.
The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly. I liked how they decorated the Tuk Tuk for Halloween. Tons of parking and close to the Costco and Home Depot.
Good price for the portion of food. Will definitely go back and recommend to friends.

Great food with great service. This is one of the better Thai places in the area (except for my mom’s or course). The food usually comes out pretty quick also.
Some of my favorite dishes that are always delicious are–
–Chicken Satay– marinated chicken with a peanut sauce on skewers. So good!
–Pad thai chicken or beef– big portions, great flavor
–Sakoontra fried rice– rice with pineapples, raisins and cashews… need I say more?
–Pad watercress– lightly fried watercress with a spicy sauce
–Sakoontra duck– I never thought I would try duck until I had this, its spicy but not too spicy with sauteed onions
–Crispy fried bananas– deep fried heaven, its a big crunch but when you bite into it the bananas is soft… did I mention it’s drizzled in honey?!
This place is affordable especially when the portion sizes are so big. I’ve never had a problem here. I always leave happy and so does my stomach!
