Great rest area, very clean! Pet area, restrooms, vending, tables, even a grill! Would definitely recommend stopping here if you are on 81. If anything just for the super clean restrooms!

This is a small little rest stop, but a nice one. Small shady area and sunny area to walk in. Bathrooms were nice though in smaller side(couple of stalls). Water fountain and nice landscaping as well.

The Fairfield Safety Rest Area is located off of Interstate 81(I-81) southbound just south of Fairfield, VA. It’s interesting, the Virginia Department of Transportation web site lists the Mile Marker for this Rest Area as Mile Marker 195, but the physical posted sign on the brick restrooms building states«Mile Marker 199.»(See attached pic). Very clean and convenient. Another good place to stop and rest, make a phone call or two, use the facilities, and stretch the legs. Additional amenities at this location include: handicapped accessible, telephones, including phones for the hearing impaired, picnic area with grills, vending machines, and a pet rest area.
