My first review of this place was removed because I disagreed with another reviewer too strongly. Look, I am not going to the barber to read the newspaper. I am there to get a haircut. I do not want to impede Jim’s ability to give me the best haircut he can. Jim KNOWS how to cut hair and is very efficient at it. He’s been doing it for like 50 years. If you’re not sure what you want, just say«I just want a regular haircut please» and leave it to him. I’ve just recently learned that my preference is for a style he calls«medium short» or something like that. Once you get to know him, you’ll know what to ask for next time. I’ve been going there since 2007 and always see Jim. Some people don’t have a preference and don’t need to wait to see Jim(and will let his other barber cut their hair). I prefer to wait for Jim, because I know he knows how to cut my hair. He is very personable if you want to talk, or he can be quiet if you want to just sit there and get your hair cut and be on your way. Jim is also very good with little kids. He has given my boys haircuts starting when they are 2 years old. He let me hold my 2 year old on my lap while he trimmed his hair. The time before he let my little guy have a lollipop in the chair so he would be a good boy and get his hair cut. If necessary, Jim will even trim your bushy eyebrows for you. Jim is the best. He is open Tues-Saturday’s and closed Sun and Mon. Just show up with $ 15 cash(his price is $ 12, but I like to give him a $ 3 tip) and ask for a «regular haircut». No credit cards accepted, and that’s fine with me. He wants to keep it simple and so do I.

This is a simple, straightforward barbershop where you can get a great haircut quickly. The barbers are friendly and professional, and do the cuts with a minimum of extraneous flash and useless flair — just great haircuts done right. A vacuum attached to the clippers keeps even more of the hair off your shoulders once you’re finished. There’s little extraneous pizzazz around the shop either — no tvs and few magazines; not that there’s anything wrong with that. _If_you have a long wait at all, you can always read the wealth of 82nd Airborne and barber signs and articles on the walls. I look forward to returning!

Pros: Great price. Great quality. Plenty of parking space. Also, it’s both fancy and nice for Jim to attach a vacuum tube to the barber clippers.(You won’t be bothered by hair clippings on your way back home!) The only thing that makes it not perfect is their opening hours: they do have limited opening hours so it’s a little bit not so convenient for 9 – 6 office professionals such as me.(They do open on Saturday mornings, perhaps. Yet it’s so hard for me to wake up early and pay a visit there)

This shop, at the corner of Annandale Rd. and Arlington Blvd., next to Goodwill and Baskin Robbins, is called«Barber Shop» on its signage. It’s a headscratcher why it’s called«Around the Corner Barber Shop,» yet the name isn’t on any signage. Anyway, the owner/old guy there has quite a following. But I see Won(pronounced wan), a Korean woman, who does a great job with regular haircuts(don’t get a full haircut with her — which means a longer cut) and is pleasant to talk with. I think she’s fairly new in the biz, so I’m plugging her because she deserves a following. I am puzzled as to why they’re nazis with banning the reading of mags while you get your haircut. Maybe they don’t want hair falling into the pages. Silly. It could have been a Seinfeld episode. I guess I’ll live with their rule.

Good price, but this place seriously lacks customer service. What barber shop does not allow its patrons to read a newspaper or magazine? Getting a shape up while reading the paper has been around for centuries. Not going back here again!
