We found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a whirl. What a find! The atmosphere is really comfortable– an anti-big chain coffee environment. Tables and couches with SPACE between them, so you’re not crowded. They use a local coffee roaster, Vigilante. Excellent quality. Their latte was the creamiest cup that I’ve ever had! Their menu, while limited, has interesting, tasty reasonably priced sandwiches and salads. Everything was delicious. The service is homey and friendly. I recommend this place without reservation. And there’s free covered parking around back.

This is such a nice chill place to have a coffee and breakfast or lunch. Very tasty and fresh food. I only had the turkey BLT but by the décor I am comfortable in saying this place won’t disappoint. May have to try something else before I leave.

This joint is cute and promising. Café Kindred is an intimate semi-music-themed café in Falls Church that serves coffee(which I hear is phenomenal) and some surprisingly delicious sandwiches. The menu is short and somewhat simple, though not in a bad way — it’s just not a huge place. WiFi is available if you buy more than $ 5 of food, meaning that this place might be a good joint to study if you also plan to eat. I tried the Grilled Chicken/Bacon/Swiss/sriracha Mayo sandwich on a baguette and liked it, though it could have used a hair more flavor(maybe more sriracha in the mayo?). The Turkey Avocado BLT on multi-grain bread was also quite tasty, thanks in no small part to the fresh ingredients and great bread. This place seems to be building up a legitimate bar and live music event area, which would probably make this a great place to check out in the evening.

What a charming little place! I put my husband in charge of finding us breakfast this past Sunday and he did not disappoint! The café is one long room(we came in through the parking garage in the back) with bench seating along one wall, a large counter up front where you can get coffee, tea, pastries and sandwiches all day long, a bar in the back that serves beer, and several unique nooks to hang out with your coffee and treats. I opted for a cappuccino and a Reuben sandwich(mad props here-I’m all for a place that serves regular sandwiches for breakfast!), and the hubs went Mocha and Breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Both were delish and their presentation was adorable! They give you a small vinyl record with your order number on it and come bring you the food and drinks when they are ready. The staff was super sweet. I didn’t realize they have napkins/forks/whatever on the back wall and the guy went and got us some when he delivered our food. Also, the woman we ordered from came over and checked on us right before we left to make sure everything was good. So really awesome customer service! Plus they have some killer vinyl and a record player in the back that I dicsovered as we were leaving. Seriously, I am in love with this place. It’s cute and they have great food, good music, sweet staff and there is free wifi. What’s not to love?

This place is probably more for lounging around with friends and having a cup of coffee than it is for eating breakfast. The portions are extremely small. My husband had to order two breakfast sandwiches. I ordered two eggs which were watery. I also ordered bacon and sausage and they only gave me one piece of each. The manager was nice, but we won’t be going back.

Gary and Jenn, the staff, the beverages, food, music selection, vibes, customer service are all on point! My favorite go to. There’s nothing«weird» about the 3pm closing time. They are opened 6 days a week. The food business is hard work people, you have to consider the prep time, clean up that goes into it. Finding reliable staff to work late hours is hard. Plus, they are primarily a breakfast place. There are plenty of bagel and breakfast shops that close at 3pm. Again, nothing«weird». Also, if you’re frequenting an establishment and are purchasing a beverage and/or light meal, and plan on working out from a table(wifi availability), keep in mind, there are limits. The shop needs to be profitable to stay opened for you, for everyone. Be considerate of other patrons that would like to dine in w/company of more than just 1 person. You should probably build/submit your resumes and do your taxes elsewhere.

Great coffee, very inviting atmosphere, friendly baristas. The closing time of 3 pm is a bit unusual. And I always feel a little weird coming here to do work because they just seem so … conflicted about having to provide wifi. :) Their t-shirts even say, «They only want me for my wifi.» Which, well … I get it, but doesn’t it sort of come with the territory of having a coffee shop in this increasingly freelance, remote-worker economy, etc., etc. The atmosphere is so fantastic, I want to hang out here all the time and patronize the heck out of this small local business and, like, be a regular … but I just feel like they don’t want me and my laptop! Ugh, UNREQUITEDLOVE. :) Also, with that bar in the back … I take it there’s going to be beer and evening hours at some point in the future? Yay!

I enjoyed the chai latte… super delish! Although I was a bit disappointed in my caprese sandwich… there was only one slice of melted cheese on my sandwich(I love mozzarella, so I would have wanted more). There was also little to no basil leaves on the sandwich, isn’t a caprese sandwich supposed to have equal amount of cheese, tomato, and basil? I felt like I was eating sliced tomato slabbed between two pieces of bread. I do plan on going back because I did enjoy the chai, but will stop by in the morning instead to try their breakfast sandwiches. Also closing time at 3 pm is a little sad :(

I love this place! I don’t have much to say, other than the food is great, the drinks are superb, and the people working here are awesome. It’s really refreshing when you can actually have a conversation with someone working at a coffee shop. There is always a certain level of courtesy here, and I always feel welcome. The atmosphere is lively and bright, and the place is perfect for individuals, groups of friends, or families. I love how there is one table where laptops are not allowed. As someone who doesn’t frequent coffee shops to do work and sit for hours, it’s very nice to see a space that is reserved in such a way. The only thing I don’t like? Closing time of 3pm on weekdays. It’s so sad! Bottom line: this is a wonderful addition to the Falls Church area. The upbeat and happy environment will put anyone in a good mood!

OMGTHISPLACEISADORABLE. I can’t speak to the quality of the coffee, but the food is solid, the service is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is off the charts. +++ Atmosphere: you get an old record to mark your table if you order food, the seating is ample and comfortable, there are quotes and movie posters on the walls, the music overhead is a tasteful background. + Service: knowledgeable, friendly, not pushy. + Comparable coffee shop prices. + Self-serve water. + Soups and quiche options are limited but they’re fresh for the day. ~ Quiche du jour(broccoli swiss) was solid but the texture and seasoning could have been a bit better. — WHYYY is this place only open until 3p?! I would love to be here until 11p! — They have these signs that say $ 5 purchase/hour for cyber-squatters. I see why they do that, but sometimes that’s a little annoying, and I feel like people should patronize their café if they support it. Maybe not a sign at every table but at the outlets or the check-out counter? Definitely will be back if I’m in the area or need to get work done before 3p on a weekday!!!

Ok, maybe I’m a little generous with a 5… Especially since it’s our 1st time here. But we had excellent service, our drinks were good and the food was spot on! *turkey avocado blt, delicious! I can understand the hype. Friendly service, great atmosphere, positive vibe and clean. We will definitely come back. Now I’m just curious about that back bar?

We gave this place a try on a dreary Friday morning. My almond milk latte was delicious… I feel like it’s pretty hard to find good coffee in this area. With the rain, the ambiance, and the coffee I felt like I was in Oregon. The service is really attentive for a coffee shop and the customers, so far, are peaceful and quiet making or a relaxing experience. I’ll definitely be back!

Wow, I can see why this place got 5 stars. So my experience starts off negative(not due to this spot). I got a flat tire on my motorcycle and that ruined my day. So I take my bike to Coleman Powersports on 29, drop it off and have a 4 mile walk back home. During my trek I decide to stop for lunch and see a quiet, unassuming storefront — Café Kindred. The name was cute and it looked classy on the inside so I popped in. Great experience, start to finish. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. The food was outstanding. The atmosphere was perfect. I was wobbling between 4 and 5 star rating but after having a chat with the owner(who checked on me while I was dining in) it is definitely a 5 star spot for me. Let’s get into the details. Food: ordered latte and turkey avocado BLT on whole wheat baguette. The latte was one of the best I have ever had(bonus points for the cute foam art, but the latte itself was phenomenal). The sandwich was really well done. Very balanced, fresh quality ingredients and great taste. Just the perfect amount of food. Prices were reasonable. Staff: Super friendly! Good people here, very prompt about everything. Atmosphere: This has a relaxed, dive bar vibe except it is really clean and classy. The lighting is soft and they play great music. The owner tells me they will have the bar running soon so I will need to come back one night for live music! Overall this place turned my day around and helped me appreciate all the good things in my life. That is worth 5 stars! Cheers to the owner, Gary.

I’m sad. You know why? Because I JUST discovered this adorable café. They recently won Best Coffee Shop in Best of Falls Church 2015 competition(congrats!!). The hubs and I stopped by on a sunny Saturday afternoon to see what the fuss was about. The interior is designed with dark wood, and we were instantly welcomed by 2 or 3 employees. Already bonus points there. The space is large with lots of chairs, benches and tables. There’s also a seating area outside. Word on the street is that they’re working on getting their liquor license so you’ll see a bar setup towards the back, which should be pretty sweet. We settled on a chai latte(for me) and an espresso(for him) along with a lemon tart to share. The chai latte was great and came on this adorable wood platter with a shot of sparkling water(to cleanse your palette) and a little square treat. This is not a Starbucks people. This is a legit café. Those small details in the presentation blew me away(what can I say? I’m easily won over). The owner stopped by to say hi and chat for a minute, and we were checked on about 2 or 3 more times. Everyone was really attentive and nice. He let us know that his wife made the lemon tart herself including homemade meringue on top. It was divine. Sweet shortbread crust and slightly toasted meringue with a tart lemon center. SOSOGOOD! I can see myself spending Saturday and/or Sunday mornings here cozing up with a cup o’ joe, a pastry and a good book!

I got the latte with soymilk which was smooth, not bitter with just the right amount of foam with a pretty design. It was $ 3.95 plus 50 cents for the soy milk, which was not bad for a unique coffee shop. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich was pretty small for the price($ 4.25), but the plus was it had a good amount of spinach and tomato with the egg. I got it on an Emglish muffin but they do have different toast or croissant, which is an extra charge. I also saw quiche on the menu and a bunch of paatries that looked very tempting. I came in early on a week day and only saw a couple people walk in and out. Parking is free, but underground and I got a little confused which stairs to go up but it was also early. Staff was friendly and quick. It’s a cute spot and has a really nice ambiance, would definitely recommend it for a spot to catch up with friends or get some work done.

Innovative, inviting, friendly and serving delicious breakfast and lunch items. Café Kindred is exactly what a coffee place should be! The vibe is upbeat but laid back, décor is eclectic and the staff are super friendly. Do yourself a favor and stop in and relax.

Woohoo! Finally, a café closer to home that is NOT Starbucks! The atmosphere inside is down-to-earth and reminds me of Nashville. Probably because there are depictions of guitars and records on all of the walls and also a real guitar with a sign saying, «Play Me!». There is a front section with a regular barista bar and plenty of café seating. Towards the back of the space, there is a more«adult bar» like look. I’m not sure if they plan on offering alcohol at some time, but this looks like that would be the space for this. They have breakfast, lunch, and bakery options in addition to coffee/tea offerings. My friend ordered one of the breakfast sandwiches at 6PM but they still offered it. It was a croissant with ham and cheese and it smelled and looked delicious. The croissant was flaky and toasted to crisp perfection. I also tried a raisin scone which had a lovely balance of butter and sugar and yumminess. Unfortunately, they said that they are not opening the espresso bar until next week so I will have to wait to give my verdict on their espresso bar. They said that the espresso machine still needs some tweaking and the staff are being trained to use it. However, I can say that their cold brew coffee is delicious. Great, smooth flavor that was perfect to drink black. No need for added sugar because all of the balance of the flavor was there. No bitter aftertaste, just delicious coffee flavor. Note: Free parking is available in the garage within the building. You need to park in P1(one level lower than the garage entrance) to get to the free retail parking. However, the design of the garage is ridiculous so you may have to jump some railings to actually get to the stairs that take you to the back of the shop. Otherwise, you can take an elevator that will require you to walk all the way around the entire building to actually enter the café. Poor design.
