We drove from my parents place in Stafford to continue our quest to find a decent Filipino place in the DMV. It became quite the ordeal to get here but I was determined. Note to self… avoid the HOV lane on a Sunday unless you want to get stuck in it. My GPS was freaking out as I repeatedly passed exits. «Rerouting… Rerouting… Rerouting…» I was definitely impressed with the place. They have a larger than average grocery department with an impressive amount of baked goods and Filipino sweet treats. I was also impressed with the amount of hot food available and based on the amount of customers they are doing quite well for themselves. It was good, a little too far for me to return to often but I would definitely return if I was in the area. Note: Their information has changed. They are now called«Filipino Global Supermarket».

Finally, a legit shop for my cravings for flip food!!! LUMPIA(4 stars): aka skinny spring rolls. These babies are stuffed with ground pork, shredded carrots, and seasoned with black pepper. PANCITPALABOK(2 stars): Bed of bihon noodles are perfect, the sauce on the other hand, not much flavor. I liked the hard boiled eggs though.

I have been going to this filipino grocery story for years… and it has always been a wonderful place to shop as it was the most convenient and fully stocked of the Filipino grocery stores I have gone to in the area not to mention the prepared food in the back. Unfortunately this location is now CLOSED… they have a sign on the door that shows their new location but not the actual address. Using my GPS I decided to take a gander at the new location and it is actually located right next to where MANILACAFE used to be in Springfield VA(about 15min from this old location). I think the actual address is: 7024 Commerce Dr., Springfield, VA22150. Unfortunately…The new location has not opened yet… it is noticeably larger(I would say 2−3x larger)…but it has not been completed and it is an empty building. The sign on the door does say MANILAORIENTAL: Coming Soon… I am hoping sooner rather than later… i need some supplies! Update: Seems I was mistaken in that they had not fully closed this location in September… it is now fully closed and they are prepping for their move to the new location

This place was an amazing find! I just moved to the area from Oregon and had been craving some Filipino food. It felt like I was back home when I walked in. The pancit was delicious and I was thrilled to find Goldilocks there!!! Yum! Overall, it’s a great store with a delightful staff!

So happy to find a genuine Filipino store in my area. Now I don’t have to drive all the way to Fort Washington! The hot food section in the back was pretty good too. I tried the crispy lechon and several versions of caldereta(beef, pork and chicken) and all reminded me of Mom’s cooking. They also had several types of crispy fried fish and dinaguan but we were too stuffed to try it all. There are even have a few tables and chairs if you can’t wait to get your grub on. I’ll definitely be back!

Upon setting foot here, I felt like I’d stepped back into every mini-mart in my home town! It was stocked with all of my childhood favorites, and the prices were pretty good. Their caldereta was absolutely scrumptious. I hope to come back in time for some lunch tapsilog!

Manila Oriental had everything Filipino that I wanted and more. I tried to make lumpia, but I couldn’t find the lumpia wrappers at my local American grocery stores so I decided to make the trip out to this filipino gem in VA. They did not disappoint. I felt like a kid in a candy store — They had the brands that I was familiar with growing up. I bought Goldilocks Mamon & Ensaymada for dessert, Lumpia Wrappers to make lumpia for my roomates, Calamansi juice just because, Spiced White Vinegar, Ube… I just wished I knew how to make more dishes so that I could actually use all the other ingredients they had.(Anyone want to teach me how to make bibingka?) I also picked up lecheon kawali(fried pork), Turon(carmelized plantain dessert), and okoy(potato pancake) at the ready made food counter. All were delish, but the okoy my grandma makes is way better. A big sign on the door said that they were moving to a new location. I will definitely come back here when I’m craving some of that home cooked filipino food.

I’m still deployed, and all I can think of is Filipino food. I’m so hungry for it and dawg tired of DFACs and MREs. So, first thing I do when I get back to the world is to go back to this little place. I’m going to order everything including the stuff they eat in the back. I miss my mom’s cooking … and oh yeah; my wife’s cooking(I don’t wan’t to get smacked!). Mama sita, adobo, kare kare, sinagan… I hope the spelling is right — I’m coming back to you soon… and to my wife.

After facing a disappointing Mama Sita packet selection(a whopping 2 choices) at the Super H-Mart in Fairfax(which is otherwise the largest, cleanest Asian grocery store I’ve ever seen, btw), I was on a hunt to find a place that offered more(not to mention I really, really wanted to make Kare Kare that day). I found Manila Oriental on Unilocal and am so glad I did. This place has the largest selection of Mama Sita packets I’ve ever seen. And as someone who isn’t super versed in cooking filipino food on my own, those packets are clutch! Other notable items you will find here that you probably won’t find at general Asian grocery stores: frozen calamansi juice, pan de sal, Magnolia ice cream, and bagoong, among many other filipino food items. Manila Oriental also apparently serves freshly cooked filipino food to go, except on Tuesdays(and of course, I was there on a Tuesday. Of course.).

This food at this joint is solid! The chocolate meat is the best of any restaurant I have ever been too. With that said all the other dish on the menu are amazingly authentic delicious. They don’t skimp out on how they cook there food, they cook with good quality meat and ingredients. The portions are enormous and very affordable. The place is clean and does not gave that Asian restaurant distinct smell. Man-o-man highly recommended!

Convenience! yup, that’s what we love about this place. It’s a one stop shop for all our pinoy cooking needs and more… and it’s just a 2 min. walk from our place. It’s true that some of their dry goods and condiment items like the packets for sinigang, fish sauce, pinoy vinegars are more expensive,(we know that because we’re from Cali), but no big deal at all. We’re just so happy that there’s a Filipino grocery store next door, where we can just stop by for TOGO cooked(sarap) food when our pinoy food cravings is up! :D The«turo-turo» in the back end of the store is our favorite. We like everything they serve, but my fave is their«pinakbet(yum) and fried fish, and sometimes we indulge ourselves to their lechon kawali(the best), karekare and chocomeat! They have the best cooks and service people. Btw, there’s also a table in the back if you wanna«eat-in»! They’re relocating soon, but with great customer service(very respectful and smiley clerks), and great food, we’re sure you’ll see us there! :-) Overall, 5 stars is for convenience, great food and great customer service!

I’m not as impressed with the price points as some seem to be– maybe because I just moved from Chicago, where Filipino food is more plentiful and everything is cheaper? But the food is significantly above-average(love the lechon kawali and BBQ), and it’s worth the price(about $ 20 – 25 for a big meal for 2). The market is about the same– decent selection and prices compared to… what? Danny’s Tindahan? That store up on Hungerford Drive that’s never open? It’s not like there are tons of Filipino stores in the DC area– which is exactly why it gets 4 stars from me. Overall, it’s a 3-star place, 3.5 on a good day. But it’s so much more convenient and better than most of your other options that you are almost legally required to give it a 4. Especially when you’re starving and you smell that vinegar…

Went there after work bc someone mentioned lumpia and how great it was. It’s really a tiny grocery store with a takeout section in the back. Asked for lumpia but they said they didn’t have it fresh. So I pointed at some pork skewers and got that plus some pastries from the front. They were still warm after the ten minute drive home but I should have nuked it some more in the microwave. I suspect it made me a little sick later in the evening. I’m not familiar with Filipino food at all so had no idea what the things were. Felt idiotic pointing at things. The food didn’t have any signs or anything. I guess it’s really catered towards people who know what the things are. What was available did look pretty good. Don’t remember seeing any price signs. Parking is kind of weird. There are spots with signs saying reserved for customers of most of the little stores and the Chilis in the shopping center. I didn’t see any for Manila Oriental but parked in a Chili’s spot. They seem to rent videos and have all kinds of Filipino related stuff there. Seems like a great little place to go if you need or want any of that.

i love getting take out, great price! & brings me back home. I’m Filipino but unfortunately my parents didn’t teach me how to cook Filipino food. I’m from California, where all of my family is located. So coming to VA w/my hubby and not knowing how to cook Filipino food, sucks ! Thanks to Manila Oriental, I get a taste of «home» every now and then =) The market section is awesome too! again, HOME!

This place is very close to home and they have a very large selection of filipino baked goods, especially stuff from Goldilocks! They also carry filipino vegetables and they have a convenient carry-out food section in the back. It’s a very small store with minimum parking as well. If you are looking for ANYthing filipino, this is the place, one-stop-shop

THECARRYOUTSECTIONISCLOSEDONTUESDAYS!!! i learned the hard way. i hope you can learn from my tragic mistake. however, it didn’t stop me from spending about $ 20 on groceries. they have a good selection of «filipino veggies» at the back and lots of impulse goodies at the front. this store is arguably one stop shopping for the novice filipino food consumer. not sure if it had stuff for dinuguan, but really, how many of you cook that at home on a regular basis? as for the take out counter at the back, they have lechon pretty consistently. how awesome is that? and if you’ve run out of the mang tomas to go with it, it’s only like 1 buck fitty for a bottle near the front of the store. huge scoop of rice and two items for $ 5.75. the people that serve you food at the back are all-star scoopers. even at the end of the night when most places want to save the remainder of the day’s meal for their dinner later on, they’ll pick through and find you some choice chunks of meat. i appreciate that. it’s different every day, so call ahead and see if they have what you want. they usually have adobo of some kind, whether pork or chicken. bottom line: good take out, clean store, friendly staff. all in all, i’m a fan. straight up 4 stars.

I’ve actually grown up in Manila Oriental especially since my parents started taking me here as young as 5 – 6 years old, probably around when the Tita Kristy & Tito Emil first started. I’ve been to almost every Filipino establishment in the VA/DC/MD area because of my family’s former Filipino business & I would have to say that Manila Oriental probably has the most items for the cheapest & best prices. I don’t mind the long lines because it really shows that a lot of customers choose to go there compared to other shops. I know people from even places like Maryland who choose to shop for groceries there because of the good deals. Their carry-out is actually really good. They normally provided you with more than you’ve paid for compared to other establishments where they don’t put much food to even fill the container. The only con I have about Manila Oriental is that it’s grown to become a long-lasting establishment & I feel as if they need a bigger space but I guess they’re content for now. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. They’ve become good long-time friends with my parents & I remember them even inviting us to their open-house one time when they were moving. The owners were even willing to help my parents when my parents were thinking of opening up their own establishment. You really won’t be disappointed when you shop here.

I struck out looking for palabok sauce mix at three asian supermarkets, so I came here to find all the Filipino specialty stuff I need and crave. They have a good selection of baked goods from goldilocks and from a New Jersey based bakery. The ensamada ube was good, had some macapuno in it that made the pastry filling seem less dense. I also ordered the daeng na bangus and longaniza for takeout. The daeng was done right, but I wish it was fresh instead of cold. And the longaniza was also yummy but cold. I think next time I’ll choose from their to order menu. If you’re looking to do any Filipino cooking, they have everything you need. I was surprised to even find atchuete mix!
