Graves and poorhouses The Methodist Society Graveyard was founded back in 1809 and is about one acre. Not a big cemetery but one that seems more spacious that the average 19th century graveyard because the graves aren’t crushed together. Many of the older stones are getting difficult to read but I did see a couple from the 1820s. Most of the memorials are simple with only a couple of larger and more elaborate ones. The Falmouth Poorhouse was located near the old graveyard and most of the unfortunate people that lived and died there were buried with only a number on their grave. However some volunteers recently searched the old records and found names for many of the poorhouse deceased and placed a small memorial in their honor. Just a little graveyard that has a whole lot of history and memories. A simple cemetery that reflects the simple lives of the people of this area.
