I was in the area of 96th& I-69 getting ready to check out a flick at the nearby UA Galaxy. I had limited time and a definite hunger. While Steak n’ Shake was an option, I’d heard about the opening of Slimms Pizza and Salads and decided to check them out. Slimms is located in the strip center directly across from UA Galaxy — there’s a FedEx and AnyLabNow in close vicinity along with several other businesses. It’s a relatively small storefront — you enter in a single glass door and are immediately in a small dining area with 3 higher tables along with 3 – 4 traditional tables. It’s a functional, though not particularly inviting, atmosphere. I will confess I’m a little baffled by the notion of a 5-star rating for Slimms. While it was perfectly fine, I never even contemplated that it might get the«highest» rating available. They basically have as their selling point that your pizza is prepared in 4-minutes and that it’s pretty darn affordable. They have free breadsticks during the first and last operating hours during the day, while they’ve also been running some mail coupons. I found their regular prices pretty reasonable including the special $ 5 one-topping pizza I chose. With a bottled iced tea, my meal came in at $ 6.96. Project Pie is nearby, but you’d be hard-pressed to get out of there for under a ten spot. The pizza? This was slightly thicker than thin crust, though certainly nowhere near thick or pan-type pizza. My pizza was a six-slice concoction and I believe they’re all 10″. The prices do go up according to number of toppings, though they have an unlimited topping option for $ 7. They also offer breadsticks, salads, and signature versions of both pizza and salad. Extras like garlic sauce and cheese sauce are an extra $.75. They also offer catering. For me, Slimms was perfectly fine but definitely not a destination pizza spot. In a case tonight where I was in a rush, Slimms gave me a pretty good meal at a good price and got me in/out in a timely manner. There’s part of me that wants to compare it to Little Caesars, though that might be a tad unfair as the ingredients are fresher. The décor is simple, though my sense is they’re still getting settled. The walls looked a tad rougher than I’d expect from a fairly new business. The pizza, a pepperoni for me, had evenly distributed pepperoni that won’t blow you away but isn’t low-end either. I was disappointed at having to buy a bottled iced tea, but in this situation that’s not a deal breaker. The owner, or I believe he was the owner, was present and making the pizza. There was also a young man working the counter. Maybe Mark? Both were friendly and helpful. The young man cleared out a chair so I could sit at a table and also handled the pizza pan when I was done. Everything about this experience was«slightly above average» and three-stars feels almost perfect. I don’t rule out that they could move up a notch at some point, though this is a very populated area for restaurants and, quite honestly, I could name 3 – 4 within a few blocks that would likely be a stop before I’d feel the need to return here. I do see in one review that there’s supposed to be Hubbard & Cravens Iced Tea — maybe I just missed it. If so, that’s a bummer and I’ll check it out next time. I suppose I had my hopes a little higher, both in terms of dining experience and the pizza itself. I’m certainly not going to call Slimms a disappointment, but considering the current growth of the pizza scene in Indy it’ll be interesting to see how a place serving up a more traditional pie works out — especially in the high volume area where it’s located.

Free breadsticks first and last operating hours. Regular business hours: Sun. 11AM — 8PM Mon. 10:30AM — 8PM Th. — Sat. 10:30AM — 9PM I plan to return to try the breadsticks during their special hour. My Reach magazine that came in my mail had coupons. I used the $ 5 pizza coupons(limit 2) to make my 10″ personal pizzas(only size that they make) with all the toppings I like. The staff prepares the pizza in front of you as you select your toppings. They have garlic which is different, but I like it. That personal size was just the right amount for a meal. Gluten free dough is $ 2 extra.

I was not much of a fan of this style of pizza after trying them out in a few chains. I did try Slimms and was impressed as the pizza was delicious. I don’t care for paper thin crust and this was just thick enough to provide a good flavor with the toppings and even a little chew. It is around $ 7 for any pizza and is filling. I liked the BBQ chicken so much I took a colleague there the next day for round two. It is family owned by a husband and wife that run the counters and they provide a great atmosphere to enjoy a good pizza.

This little place tucked behind McDonald’s is a great addition to 96th Street. It’s a nice alternative to project pie if you’re not looking for something wild and artisanal. This is the pizza you grew up on, without having to wait 45 minutes for a delivery. don’t be fooled by the price, this is not an entry-level pizza joint. I assume low overhead(no delivery or servers) keeps prices low. They are using top-notch ingredients and are not cutting corners on the cheese. The salads are fresh and a great option even when you don’t want pizza. Stop in and give them a try!

Fresh, flavorful ingredients. Friendly owners. The crust was delicious. Salad and dressing were fresh and delicious. Hubbard and Cravens iced tea. Food stands out against the chain competition, especially with their salads. I hope they do well in this location.

Place just opened up. Pizza was okay. Didn’t have a salad. Two pizzas and two drinks was $ 20.00, which seems a little high for the product. Owners are very confident of their business and their food. I’m not.
