Joe’s Italian Marketplace. what can I say about it? It’s a casual delicatessen, sandwich shop and specialty Italian business located right inbetween the town of Fishkill and the town of Wappingers Falls. They’ve been a staple in the Dutchess County area for years now. I live right across the street from it and I absolutely love it. The staff is very friendly and the sandwiches are superb made with Boar’s Head brand deli meat and cheeses. I’ve been a customer here for years and I have never been disappointed in a sandwich I’ve received. The Texas Ranch is one of my absolute favorites, made with BBQ Chicken Breast, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, and Ranch dressing. The sandwiches are very well priced for a deli, which is why I’m such a frequent visitor. They have a stamp system for their sandwiches as well, 10 sandwiches gets you a freebie(double stamps on Tuesdays!) Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch or want an imported Italian specialty like truffle oils, Joe’s Italian Marketplace is one of the better stops in the Hudson Valley!

I used to be a frequent customer, years and years ago when they were in the plaza on Main Street in Fishkill. I haven’t been here for a while simply because its now out of the way for me. Last week my daughter and I felt like having an Italian hero. We made the mistake of stopping here. Our experience began with viewing a case filled with salads and prepared items that looked ancient. Many were glazed over and ready for the trash. As it was around 3pm and we were the only customers there. We waited at the counter for what seemed like 8 minutes. The son(as we remember from the Main Street days) looked over his shoulder at us waiting, yet continued doing something else. A polite 20-something year old man working there was concerned about how long we were waiting and kept glancing back and forth between the son and us. After asking if we were being helped and us saying no, he asked the son if he could take care of us, who in turn replied, «No. I’ll get it.» The son then turned and took his sweet time finishing what he was doing before coming to help us. We each ordered«Italian Stallion» sandwiches on hard rolls and two small containers of… lets call it potato salad. The potato salad being the only thing in the case that didn’t look like it was brought from Italy in 1918. We selected something to drink as our order was being made and came back to the counter where a woman was waiting to ring us up. She rang up our order and told us it would be $ 38.00 and change. My heart almost seized. Noticing me cock my head she realized she’d made a mistake and told us our lunch would be $ 24.00 and change. That’s a hefty price tag — especially considering what was to come. We sat down and my daughter unwrapped her sandwich and said, «Eww, there’s a hair.» Sure enough, between the cold cuts was a long hair. I told her to give me that one and you take mine. Now — if you’re thinking that when she opened that one up she found another hair, you’d only be half right. SHEFOUNDTWOHAIRS. Two more long strands of hair for a total of three. I wrapped the sandwiches back up in disgust but I was so embarrassed for these inept shopkeepers, I simply couldn’t bring it to their attention. What would I get anyway — replacements with more hair? We turned our attention to the potato salad. The potato salad consisted of large cubes of half-raw potatoes slathered in mayo. It was inedible. Now, either someone didn’t try this potato salad before it was served or they did, and they just didn’t give a crap. Part of what gives potato salad its creaminess is the edges of the cooked potatoes«mashing» off and mixing with the mayo. That can’t happen with raw potatoes. I will never be back here again. I think knowing that made me not care if I got my money back. To serve old, poorly made, unhygienic junk at NYC prices is a sad end to a once great place to eat. I told my daughter to take a good look all around. When she asked why, I told her it was because we’d never see the inside of this place again.

I’ve been here many times for lunch, and never been disappointed. A real gem — it’s tough to find a REAL Italian deli outside of NYC, but this is it. Since I’ve moved to CT it’s even worse. Any time I’m in the area I stop by Joe’s for a sandwich. Even if you’re not that close by it’s worth a trip for a real treat.

Passing thru while visiting with clients! I was told to visit here and said to my self it’s Fishkill, it can’t be that good. Well let me tell you how wrong I was. This was one of the most delicious and well crafted sandwiches I have ever had, and travel for work and eat on the road almost every day. Do your self a favor if you deserve a treat, stop in and enjoy yourself.

So many good reviews from people. Yet I walked in there and felt completely uncomfortable. I’m not into outing someone a job, so I will not describe the women who couldn’t even smile at a customer smiling at her. Not even a hello, and she was the door greeter. I am Puerto Rican and my boyfriend is Asian. Maybe every white person gets an amazing experience, but if you’re a minority, watch out. I walked out before even ordering. Hire friendlier staff!

Great Italian deli that’s been around for a long time. Always got great sandwiches here and the daily specials I’ve tried have always been good. Love the frozen lobster ravioli and sauce for an easy meal to make at home. Not cheap but definitely worth it.

I stopped in today to get some cold cuts and as I was being helped another worker opened up the bread cabinet dropped about 5 rolls on the floor, picked them up and put them right back in the cabinet! Omg never again. My first and last visit.

We moved out of the area for a few years and now that we are back could not wait to come to Joe’s. The best bread, sandwiches, a true Italian deli. Love this place and the creations of sandwiches they have. I’d give 6 stars if I could.

Tried the Joe’s Italiano sub. I was expecting that a sandwich with the name of the restaurant will be the main attraction. It was extremely salty. Would not recommend this sandwich. I gave it 3 stars because the people working there were really nice. Perhaps the other sandwiches are better.

There are a few issues here like having Italian style cold cuts on the boars head board, even though there not boar head Your not sure what your getting. Employees cant pronounce the Italian brand, and the fresh mozzarella in water in the refrigerator. Cold mozzarella never, an Italian sin! What really gets me is they wrap your $ 15.00 a pound(mediocre) Soppressata in the same absorbent cheap paper that SHOPRITE uses. To make an extra few pennies, they dry out your meats! My favorite thing about Joe’s is the numerous sandwiches to choose from! Among my favorites are the Porco Verde(roast park, broccoli rabe, melted provolone, and sweet/hot peppers), Series Special(pepper turkey, bacon, pepperjack cheese, and dijonnaise), and the Italian Philly(forget what’s in it at the moment, but it’s good!). I’m rarely disappointed with a sandwich here. They also carry many Italian staples and have a large selection of gourmet olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The woman who works at the register is very friendly. They are also the only place in the area that seems to have Cherry Coke Zero!

The amount of sandwiches you can get here is overwhelming! But in a good way! Very good, I don’t know why I didn’t go here sooner! And the amount of homemade breads, cheese etc looked amazing although I didn’t get any this time I’m sure I’ll be back!

Stopped by today to pick up a bite for an impromptu picnic as the day turned out to be glorious. We shared a delicious cheese and veggie sandwich. Joe’s will definitely be seeing more of us if this weather continues!(Of course we were so hungry I forgot to take pix. Next time!)
