Tidwell’s Fish & Shrimp House

First time visiting Tidwells & I have to say the food was delicious. Will probably go back for a second visit.

My cousin & I stopped in today to give Tidwell’s a try. I chose the catfish nugget sandwich with onion rings. Onion rings are batter dipped and tasty. The breading on the fish was good with out being salty like many places I’ve tried. The container was filled with nuggets and underneath was a bed of pickles and onions on 2 slices of bread. Nothing like good fresh fish with pickles and onions. My cousin ordered the 6pc wing and fries with the honey spicy sauce. (If you get the 8pc the put the sauce on the wings, with the 6pc you can only get the sauce on the side.) She raved about the sauce! She thoroughly enjoyed her chicken & fries and said the fries were the best, lol. She even saved what was left of her sauce for later because it was so tasty. We enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back to try more from Tidwell’s.

I stopped at Tidwells because some of my friends told me the fish is fantastic it was cooked perfectly and very fresh I also got the burgers for my kids and they absolutely loved them with grilled buns perfectly cut thick burgers and they had lots of flavor I absolutely recommend this place. It will definitely be One of my regular eating places.

I really wanted to like this place. I went out of my way on the way home to visit.
The shrimp were fried in some type of tempura batter. The shrimp were cold (I ate my order there, so there was no chance they magically got cold from the counter to the table), the batter had no flavor, and some kind of seasoning was lightly sprinkled on top, that didn’t really add much. These are really large shrimp, it is shame they are not seasoned better. The catfish fillets were overcooked, the ends were dried out, and they were cooked beyond golden brown. The coating had almost no flavor. If you are on a low sodium diet, this might be a great place for you, because the salt usage is very low. The cole slaw was okay. Overall the food is just bland and flavorless, which is pretty hard to do with fried food.
I thought for the price the food would be outstanding, but this is mediocre at best. I ordered the fish and shrimp combo. It cost $ 14. I have never paid more than $ 10 for a fish and shrimp combo at any take out fried fish restaurant.

Walking in, my first impression was not what I expected. This is a very small place where you order/​pay through a window. I wanted shrimp but the thought of paying $ 14 for 6 «jumbo» shrimp was not appealing so I ordered the Catfish nuggets. He ordered the shrimp. For sides we had cole slaw, which I thought was very good, fries and hush puppies. Food was packaged for carry-​out, there are no plates. The shrimp were large, not butterflied as one would expect, and deep fried in what seemed to be closer to a tempura batter. I was given a large order of Catfish. It was good (a little salty, but having lived in SC for 13 years, I am a bit of a critic). Overall, this is an OK place. Quite a number of people had come in for carry-​out and that seemed to be the norm. He said it was astonishingly average for the price.

My husband and I are fried catfish lovers and have been wanting to try Tidwell’s, last night we did. It was so good, we both ordered catfish nuggets, it was delicious!! The portions are generous, the staff friendly, we will now be regular patrons!!!
