Margolis Photography Studio

Margolis Photography is okay for posed photos, but does not do candid well. Tod was the most intrusive photographer I have ever worked with (I was a bridesmaid in a recent wedding he photographed). Most photographers pride themselves on their ability to «disappear» into the background and get lovely candid shots of people celebrating a wedding. Tod does not do that, but is rather a very loud and, I felt, very intrusive photographer. Tod was CONSTANTLY stopping us all, like the entire wedding guest party, and telling us to pose, look at him, smile, and say «yes!» Some posed pictures are important and fun, but it got out of hand by the end. I was a bridesmaid, and by the end of the evening I thought I was going to cry if he pulled me out one more time for another posed shot. It was just too much by the end. My finance came as a guest, and was also overwhelmed by how often the wedding had to pause for Tod to take a photo. He pointed out that when we walked to the car to do the «send-​off» with bubbles, Tod had all the guests stop, turn toward him, and smile, when a candid shot would have been a better capture of the moment. There was no need for him to keep shouting at us to look at him. He had all of the guests stand up at their tables for group photos instead of doing candid shots. His photos are, overall, not unusually good, just average, but his price is a little on the higher side. The engagement photos he did with the couple were also very mediocre. He often has trouble realizing when the background of a shot is ugly or mismatched — like the engagement photos where he put the bride, in her maroon shirt, in front of neon pink flowers. He also took photos of the bride’s wedding dress in front of an unattractive wooden dividing wall, and I couldn’t help but wonder why he hadn’t just taken the dress out the nearby door where the flowers or trees or decorations were. The posed photos are fine, but he really doesn’t do much with candid photos. Margolis’ services are not, in my opinion, what I’d want for a wedding.

I have been working with Margolis Photography for over 10 years. Tod Margolis (owner) is a true professional and I would highly recommend Tod for any corporate events, social events, weddings, family photo portraits. Tod is very talented and an amazing photographer. Tod will be with you during the entire project and he will make sure you are completely satisfied with the finished product. I have worked with Tod in my professional career (hospitality industry) and my personal life. He is truly the best!

When I was in Newport this past week celebrating my 15^th wedding anniversary with my husband and family we talked about our amazing photographer. Since Unilocal!wasn’t around 15 years ago I will write my review now.
Todd (owner) is an amazing photographer. He got formal, informal, candid, and every other moment you could imagine. What I loved about him was he never interrupted any moment of our wedding. I have been to weddings where the photographer is constantly in your face. This wasn’t the case with Todd. It was like he was apart of our wedding and we loved that. Oh and he got mono and still showed up to our wedding!!! Of course he was beyond the contagious stage, but still was feeling a bit run down so he brought a back up. She was another amazing photographer. I could go on and on, but I think I have a limit. We will always have the beautiful photo album to remind us of our day!
Oh and one last thing — Todd grew up in Newport and knows everyone. He was the perfect source to have when planning a wedding in Newport, especially 15 years ago when nobody was on the internet.
