Please do NOT put your loved one here… this place was the beginning of the end for my mom. My mother was put there for the rehabilitation part not the nursing but I assume the treatments are the same. Rehab apparently given twice a day… my mother had a wound on one of her legs, they placed ankle weights on her wound making her lift her legs up that were incredibly swollen… common sense anyone? All this maneuvering making her more exhausted than helping her. On top of that, they leave the person telling them what to do instead of watching them to make sure they are doing the movements correctly. You say something to them about your concern they pretty much brush you off. They also leave the person in dirty diapers for hours. My mom caught a UTI and Cdif and she had a kidney transplant, extra attention should have been given or just normal regular changes should have been done! As soon as you get to the floor where the room is at, a dirty smell of urine and neglect just takes over… that should have been my first warning sign! You can barely find someone in the halls to address your issues and staff is extremely two faced pretending they will get the job done but if course they don’t, everyone has attitude and you can tell they are miserable or simply don’t want to do their job, it’s all about just getting that paycheck! No need to say, my mom had to go back to the hospital and then had to be transferred back to another rehab. Of course I didn’t choose this one and the second one wasn’t any better because I also found out that Forest View and Forest Care were both under the same ownership… My mom might still be here if she hadn’t caught all these infections which made it so difficult for her to get better. Absolutely stay away from both! It’s worth travelling a little farther!

It is now June 2015 as I write, and mother is fine and doing well in home care, living with my sister in the West Village. Although as it developed, she did not need to remain permanently in a nursing home environment, that in no way reflects badly on Forest View. Truth to tell — mother being ambulatory, with no other medical issues(save dementia and wandering) we were confident she would be fine, at the home of my sister. But I want to repeat: the great care she received at Forest View made it possible for her to be as fit and strong as age and dementia permitted — and you know what… that’s a lot! The FV staff was proactive in giving her therapy, which improved her mobility, gait and physical strength. Sadly, we cannot cure or, slow down her dementia. But my sister and I take comfort she is living fully, for the remainder of her days according to her wishes — at home. That situation is primarily due to early intervention. And the focused, attentive care she received, once she reached Forest View.

Although Forest View states on their website that they take Alzheimer and dementia patients., they refused to take my mother. The only reason they gave me was that they didn’t have an appropriate bed. That makes absolutely no sense for a senior care facility at all. Why would you state that you help patients that you don’t accept?
