Great oxtail bone soup. They have two big boilers in the back making this soup and it is heavenly. The white broth is amazing with a dash of salt and a bunch of scallions. Dump your rice in or drop the soup into your rice bowl, either way is delicious. The jap chae was amazing too, has more of s stir fry flavor, very intense, not so much sesame oil flavor as most jap chaes have. The kimchi is one of the best I’ve tasted. The LA kalbi was buttery and melt in your mouth type of meat. The service was great as well. Will def come back. So glad I found this place !

This establishment is all about the bone soup. No copious and flavorful sides, no real finesse with the other dishes, no plentiful menu options, but no one should care or complain. The bone soup is an utter revelation. There are cauldrons in the back with the soup simmering day and night, and this is why you should go. The soup is served unsalted to better appreciate the depth of the flavor before you add your own salt to taste from the salt well on the table. If you refrigerate it, the soup will gelatinize because of just how deeply its been infused with the beef collagen, and there is no layer of fat to skim off. The soup is five stars, the rest of the menu is one, so the restaurant is rated a three. But go, go for the soup.

Wow, I didn’t expect to find another authentic Seullungtang(Korean white beef soup) place in NYC! My favorite one is Gahm Mi Oak in Manhattan but this place is also awesome! Their spicy reddish is yummy, just like the one I had in Korea. I will definitely come back at least once a month whenever I crave Korean food!

Came here to try the seolleongtang and it wasn’t the most impressive meal, but it was very satisfying. It would’ve been perfect for a colder day, but global warming happened and it turned out to be 65 degrees when I came(middle of December). The staff was really nice. They kept refilling our kimchi as soon as it ran out. My group of friends and I were really loud and may have seemed disrespectful, but they were really cool about it.

Their dolsot bibimbap is amazing. I love how it comes in the hot stone and how the rice on it is crunchy. This place definitely serves one of the best dolsot bibimbap I have ever tried. It’s a bit expensive($ 15 ish) but it’s amazing

Maybe the best bimbimbap I’ve had. Downside is that the kimchi and kkakdugi is only okay

The owner is discrimination! Go there if you want your money go to a racist’s pocket. Especially if you are Chinese, Chinese-American, or even Chinese-Korean. The only positive thing about this restaurant is that the workers are nice. So what, the owner is psycho.

This is my sister and i’s go to place when were hungry at 10pm or 1am. Convenient, accessible by bus and the parking area at the back of the resto is huge(considering we’re in NY) I always go here for the free kimchi. Hahaha! Yep, their kimchi is soooo good and it’s free. I recommend their bulgogi, kalbi, jap chae and dolsot bibimbap and kimchiiiiiii. Free orange slices after meal. Just writing about this review makes me hungry. Hahaha! The servers are really nice– tried and proven, whenever i’m asking for kimchi and water refill. Cleanliness of the resto is good. Tables are cleaned thoroughly.

Never been to a Korean restaurant before, but I can say I will definitely be visiting this one again! We came on a Saturday night about 7PM or so. We were one of few inside. But as soon as we entered we were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. There was either BBQ seating(where I assume they cook food right in front of you, there were pans on the tables), or regular seating. We opted for regular seating. I ordered a delicious deep fried chicken and my boyfriend ordered a soup. Everything was beautifully presented, the waitress explained all the different appetizers to us and warned us whether or not it would be spicy(since we were clearly not of Korean descent). Overall a very wonderful experience. I would recommended this place to anyone wanting to try some Korean cuisine.

Gahwa’s menu is limited compared to other Korean places, but what they make they make very well. The dotsot bibimbap(sliced vegetables and beef on rice in a hot stone pot) is the best I’ve had anywhere, a true work of art. The LA kalbi(beef short ribs) is also a standout; no cooking at the table here, but the meat comes sizzling hot on a heavy metal platter with cooked onions. The japchae(sweet potato noodles with beef and vegetables) is a relatively recent menu addition but is also a favorite. There is no elaborate spread of banchan(side dishes) here, but everyone gets sulungtang(a cowbone soup that boils all day in huge cauldrons on display in the rear of the dining room) with scallions and salt to taste, fresh napa cabbage, and the freshest, most amazing kimchi(pickled radish and cabbage in a spicy sauce) anywhere, cut up for you by your waitress at your table. There is no bar but many patrons wash down their food with soju, a Korean alcoholic malt beverage, or Korean beer. The décor is mostly functional, the most remarkable feature being a ceiling made of small split logs with the bark still attached. The staff’s English ability is sometimes limited(the clientele is largely Korean) but they help where they can, and the menu’s English descriptions are pretty clear.

Food is amazing! I would suggest the sulungtang which is the ox-tail beef soup or the ddokbegi bulgogi which is a soup with vermicelli noodles, vegetables, and of course bulgogi! Bulgogi is thinly sliced marinated beef. So good for winter. Their kimchi is also always fresh and the have a bowl of scallions and salt on the side.

For those lonely early mornings and you are sick… Sulungtang!() I’m telling you… It will clear up your sinuses and makes your nice and warm. fuzzy! I come here alone in my scrubs sometimes after I get out of work. They don’t judge! I come during off hours most of the time but they are usually nice. They are decently priced as well. The parking is avail in the back(you can enter from the back as well) and you can find plentiful street parking if you go really late at night or very early in the morning like I do! It’s a perfect place for quick food during the winter… Very cute interior décor and very clean restroom! Don’t go in there with nice clothes though… The smell will stick on your clothes! You’ve been warned!

Kalbi was great, everything else so far is ok. Decent service. Best part, open 24⁄7. So you can get your korean food fix all day all night baby ;p. Gonna try their soup and bibimbap next. Parking is soso, depends when you go. I usually go at nighttime, very easy parking.

The best Korean restaurants have a specialty. The other stuff will be good. But if their specialty blows your mind… then you love them. Delicious, flavorful bone broth soup(suh lung tang). Seasoned well — don’t add salt until you taste first. Two huge vats bubbling away as you enter from the parking lot in the real.(Adjacent to a big H Mart if you feel shopping away afterwards.) Generous helpings of cabbage and radish kimchee. Not really any other banchan Other dishes aren’t bad. Dumpling and rice cake soup(duck mandoo guk), LA Galbi, Modum Bosaam(raw oysters, pork belly) and Bin Dae Duk savory pancakes all get decent grades. Not stellar. Not bad. You come here for the bone broth. And if you have friends who want other things, they have a broad enough menu to scratch that itch.

I wanted to try something different in Korean cuisine. Not the usual Korean BBQ or BCD joint or dishes that are completely smothered in spicy red sauce. My friend brought me here for their oxtail bone soup. I was skeptical at first but after trying their soup, it’s actually alright. The soup is very light. It’s not salty or very beefy. With a bowl of rice along with the soup, it cleanses your mouth and caresses your inside. Some may find the soup very plain or bland but I find it plain in a very good way. It’s not extravagant. It’s a really simple oxtail soup that hits home. My only issue was the price. After all, it is just soup with a bowl of plain white rice. Other than that, everything else was great. Service was fine and there’s also a free parking lot.

I came here on a snowy Sunday night and had a great dinner. The restaurant is known for its ox bone broth and the warm, steamy broth was perfect for a cold, snowy night. Having a big appetite, I actually ordered 2 entrees. I ordered the ox bone broth with oxtail meat and the raw beef bi bim bap. My broth came with no noodles and I asked the waitress about it. She then brought out a plate of cooked noodles that I could add to my soup. The broth comes bland so you can spice it with the salt they give you to your taste. Also they give you a giant bowl of scallions to add to the broth, which also gives added taste. The broth comes with a bowl of rice. This restaurant does not offer as many free side dishes as other Korean restaurants, They give you only kimchi and some cabbage with bean paste to dip in. However, the kimchi was one of the best I have ever had at any restaurant. My raw beef bi bim bap came with a bowl of the ox bone soup so in hind sight I didn’t have to order the extra broth in order to try it but the oxtail that came with the broth was very delicious. Be sure to get the oxtail broth because the other broth just comes with slices of meat whereas I believe the oxtail is better. The raw beef bi bim bap was very good and they are generous with the portion of raw beef. The prices were a bit steeper than I expected but doable. The menu isn’t that extensive so if you are looking for soon du bu or some other popular Korean dishes, they may not have it here.

When it’s so cold that the wind whipping your face feels like sandpaper scraping your skin off, only soup will do… And, when that’s the case, a trek into Flushing for this mecca of sul long tang is much needed. While you can probably find street parking, there’s also parking in the back and a back entrance. When utilizing the back entrance, you’ll pass by two gigantic, bubbling vats of ox-bone broth. Heaven! I opted for an upgrade of the standard sul long tang, which comes with sliced beef, and went with the Soggori Tang. It’s the same milky white ox-bone broth, served with pieces of oxtail instead. When it comes to your table, you’ll also receive a bowl of rice. You add the rice and salt, pepper and scallions(already on your table), to taste. I never add all the rice, but I always add extra scallions and a minimal amout of salt. Know that this broth has been boiled for hours in order to achieve this level of milkiness. It’s delicious, but the salt really brings out the flavor, so use just enough to enhance the broth, but don’t make it a salt pond. We also ordered: Kimchi Jun — Kimchi Pancake: this was a bit too mushy for me. I like my pancakes to be crispy on the outside and soft inside. While there is kimchi in the pancake, it’s not spicy. Bin Dae Duk — Mung Bean Pancake: slightly better, but still not crisp enough for my preference. I also liked the flavor a bit more than the kimchi pancake. Tong Jok Bal — Steamed and Braised Pig Foot: We were between this and the soondae and went with the pig foot since we weren’t sure everyone would eat the blood sausage. It came on a huge platter with some marinated vegetables. It’s served room temperature, and I was in the mood for hot food, so I only had a couple pieces. Tasty. It’s a big portion, so order this if you have more than 4 people. We were a party of 9, so we killed it. haha My Soggori Tang was just what the weather called for. I was so full, but couldn’t help drinking up every last drop of that broth. I think in the future, I’m going to need to order one to take home! It’ll be like the Asian version of Brodo! Future visits will have me trying the Yook Hwe(Korean beef tartare). The two tables beside us ordered it and it looks delicious. Had I not already made up my mind on hot food only, I would’ve totally ordered it. Next time! P.S. The kimchi and kkakdugi(radish kimchi) are crack! We had three dishes on the table that we housed and asked for refills. So effin good! P.P.S. I’d be happy with the soup and kimchi alone. They’re both that great.

This is my neighborhood for 4 yrs and I finally tried this place because the bbq next door couldn’t accommodate 9 people. So my Chinese family sat down, and immediately upon looking at the menu, regretted our decision to eat Korean food. This place serves very traditional Korean food… Meaning they didn’t have seafood pancake, nor did they have tofu bowls. Everything was very confusing as to what I could order because everything was beef or pork feet. And every customer in there was Korean. Dont expect the usual small plates of korean appetizers like fish, veggies, kimchi, tofu, etc… the kind you usually get at other korean restaurants like BCD etc. You only get a plate of kimchi and another plate of green peppers & lettuce? Well I ordered my food by presenting our waiter with pictures from Unilocal haha. My Chinese family was very confused and relied on me to order all the food. We ordered their Korean vegetable pancake, scallion beef, cold noodles, bibimbap, and oxtail soup. My favorite was the scallion beef, there was a mountain of scallion in the middle surrounded by a field of beef slices. Another favorite was the oxtail soup, oh my god was it amazing. Honestly, my family enjoyed these foods very much, as it was their first time trying authentic korean food and it was not korean bbq. If I come back, I would probably only be buying the oxtail soup for take out.

I’m almost certain they sprinkle something on their kimchi because kimchi should not be this addicting and drool worthy. We brought our grandmother here because she wanted to go out for lunch, and it definitely hit all of the spots. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, and it shares H Mart’s giant parking lot. Our party of four was seated immediately, and we ordered three sullungtang, and the pork belly bossamm, which is a huge platter of sliced pork belly, steamed(or boiled) cabbage, spicy kimchi radish, raw salted oysters and raw green peppers. The premise is that you dip the pork belly in the sesame oil/cured shrimp paste sauce(saewoo jut), layer it with the radish, oyster and green pepper, wrap it all up in a cabbage leaf and just go to town. Liquids will run down your fingers but that’s okay, napkins exist. One pro tip, dip the oyster in the sesame oil as well to balance that raw fishiness that comes with eating such foods. The sullungtang was absolutely great. It was a tad milkier than I’m used to having but that just made it heartier. Really delicious. But that kimchi though. That kimchi. You’ll see what I’m talking about. The service was also excellent. My grandmother’s soup wasn’t as hot as ours was, so after requesting it to be heated up, they apologized and brought it back roiling. I’ll keep coming back. Definitely.

GaHwa is famous for its seolleongtang, a delicate ox-bone broth soup. Most folks are familiar with Korea’s fiery dishes but this is a very different dish and it is absolute perfection here: rich yet light, flavorful yet mild. I’ve never had it better. Folks have commented on GaHwa’s excellent kimchi and radish kimchi(kkakdugi) and yes, it is definitely some of the best out there. Great balance of spicy, sweet and funky flavors. Their bindaetteok(savory mung bean pancake) is done to crispy-but-not-greasy perfection. So many other restaurants fall flat with this humble dish. Nice selection of soju, makgeolli and beer. Attentive, friendly staff. Nice, clean atmosphere with a one-of-a-kind bark ceiling which makes the restaurant feel like a modern cabin. The location is a bit of a walk from Flushing’s Main Street 7 station but a meal here is well worth the walk. Can’t wait to go back!

My first visit was terrific the oxtail soup was probably the best I’ve had and the service was quick and friendly. My most recent one I had the naeng myun-a cold buckwheat noodle soup and thought it was just-okay. The service this recent time wasn’t as responsive and the food not as good. Stick with the soup and you should be good.

Came here twice. The kimchi & radish() are the bomb dot com here. And the Dolsot Bibimbap is too. I have literally had this dish at least 20 times in 20 different places and this place is like definitely in the Top 3. The veggies are different than most places with like kelp(yum!). I hate the mushrooms in dolsot bibimbap but I didn’t mind it in this one — that’s how good it was. Best thing of all, it stayed sizzling hot the entire time I ate it(maybe I just ate it that quickly). It forms a delicious crunchy crust where the rice sits against the pot. My fave part. Also tried the jaeyook bokkeum another time. Nice, hot, and spicy. Was surprised to see huge chunks of yellow pepper, which I’m not used to, but I liked it. Need to eat it with a lot of the napa cabbage they give you or rice because it’s salty(but when is jaeyook bokkeum not?). They also give a bowl of seollungtang soup with both entrees. It’s good! The ladies working here are really nice too. My dad was parking the car and his food came out before he got inside. His soup cooled down a little and he’s super duper picky about that kind of stuff but they gladly reheated it. The lady next to us was also being really rude, but they were really polite to her nonetheless. Don’t really know about the cost of things exactly because my parents bought me the meal both times, but I don’t think it costs that much more than any other Korean place around the area.
