American portion sized authentic Korean food!!! This is the first restaurant we’ve tried in flushing Korean town and it’s pretty good. There are both Chinese and Korean servers making ordering very convenient. We ordered bimbimbap(beef) and monk fish tofu soup. Both are bigger than the usual Korean restaurant orders. The best part is the enormous amount of bonchon even for just two people!!!

Awesome ban chan, fresh and lots of it! Dolpan bibimbab is the best! Great soon doo boo and miyuk gook.

Their food was ok at most. Nothing outstanding or different I haven’t tasted from any other Korean restaurant. Their BBQ meats are overcharged. We had the tiniest serving of kalbi and that dish costed $ 35.99. We complained to the server and she said that’s the size of their servings… which is ridiculous and impossible. There was literally 7 – 10 pieces of meat in that order. They treat Koreans better. So if you’re Chinese or Taiwanese or anything else, you won’t get the perks and treatment of a Korean. We walked by another table of customers who were Korean and noticed they got free dishes that we had not. So my mother in law went to ask a Chinese speaking server why. She said because they ordered so and so dish in which my MIL replied we ordered those also and more. The Chinese server said. it’s because those customers are Korean. We are never coming back here. Overpriced for mediocre food and they do not treat their customers the same. Thumbs down x 10!

While you shouldn’t be coming here for the side dishes, they do give you a lot of them. The jap chae is decent and bbq isn’t too bad. They cut it a little too thick so it’s chewy. I came a few times the last time it was slower so the service was more attentive. They speak very little English so communication is hard when asking for certain dishes. It’s a little pricey so be prepared to spend money when coming here. The quality is better than most places so it makes up for that.

I love love the side dishes here! There’s so much variety. I always order the seafood pancake every time I go to Korean restaurants. It’s just a must for me. The seafood pancake here is very mediocre. A little soggy. I like it crispy! I had some spicy noodle soup which was very good. It’s just a tad over priced for the size of the dishes but I’m sure that’s because they have to factor in the fact that they provide unlimited side dishes. Do not think the side dishes are actually free. It’s built into the price but I still love it. Love the marinated crabs!

I came here with my family for dinner and it was pretty crowded, but we got a seat in no time. The meat was good, and I really liked the marinated beef! The side dishes they gave out were a variety and they all tasted great. We ordered for four people and it wasn’t as expensive as most places, but it certainly wasn’t cheap either.

You know it’s a good sign when food starts raining down on your table before you’ve even opened the menu. Galbi Ma Eul is a not a large restaurant by any means but around lunchtime, hoards of couples and small parties blockade the door, hoping to dine in. The aforementioned number and variety of free banchan(or small appetizers that characterize Korean meals) are one of the huge draws. With four salads, two types of kimchee(radish and cabbage), spicy marinated crab, and various root vegetables littering your table, our table had hardly enough real estate available for the entrees to come. The menu hosts an attractive spread of dishes, including soups, stews, and a few main dishes that are intended for sharing(the marinated meats being one of them), but the one thing that sets Galbi Ma Eul aside from the rest of the pack is the section labeled ‘Dolpan’ which can be literally translated as ‘stone pan’. While similar to a hot stone bibimbap at other restaurants, Galbi Ma Eul’s pans are large and flattened, allowing you to spread your rice-and-topping mixture across a sizzling circular field that was about a foot in diameter. I had the tofu dolpan, which included(along with the rice and tofu cubes), oyster and shiitake mushrooms, spinach, diced onions, and bean sprouts, and sesame-marinated fernbrake. Mine was one of the vegetarian dolpans but the spicy pork and sweet marinated beef seemed like two other popular orders. Two important things to note about these dolpans: 1) Squirt bottles of spicy sauce are brought to the table, allowing you to adjust the spiciness as you please. I applied mine liberally, reddening my dolpan to sweat-and-tear incendiary levels but of course you can customize yours as you wish. 2) As with hot stone bibimbaps, try to leave the bottom layer of your rice undisturbed as you mix and eat. It allows the pan to cook and crisp portions of the rice so that, at the very end, these add lovely textural contrasts in ways similar to the socarrat in true paella. Each dolpan is accompanied by a complimentary bowl of seaweed soup(with small chunks of beef, so this is a vegetarian no-go), with tender strands of seaweed and a broth that is both savory and comforting.

Was craving some good quality galbi. Walked in and the place was packed for a Thursday night. The waitstaff here is on fire. They zip around like the tasmanian devil refilling banchan, filling water, clearing tables for the next guests and grilling the delicate meats on a bed of charcoal. Service was top notch. Plenty of banchan that fills your table. Meat was superb. Definitely might be my go to spot. $ 35.99 an order. A bit steeper than other places in the area but I’ll pay for quality any day.

Galbi here was okay. Everyone comments on a lot of side dishes but I didn’t think they were more than other restaurants, if anything, the quality was as good as others. The service seemed very hectic and busy even though it was busy, but you can tell they were definitely understaffed. The meat was just okay, I don’t think they kept it on the grill long enough and it was cut way too big, which is a sign that they were in a rush. I was not impressed, probably won’t go back there.

Aside from the lady who put her leg on her chair as she ate, I’d give this place a 5. The food was great, but the table was extremely small. They had to fit every single dish and kimchi, cabbages and other assortments on the table, and for a moment there, I thought that the foods were going to fall off my table. However, I think that the restaurant is worth a visit if you’re a fan of Korean food, or you just want to try Korean food for a first-timer. I would say that this Korean restaurant is better than the ones I’ve had on various parts of Northern Blvd. And bonus: I didn’t come out smelling like a piece of beef, so that’s a good thing! Recommended!

The best thing about this place is that they use charcoal for the bbq so it really enhances the flavor of the meat. Generous with and great variety of ban chan. Delicious pancakes and japchae. Kalbi is melt in your mouth fatty and perfectly seasoned. Service can feel rushed but it’s small so understand they need the tables. The restaurant is in Auburndale so parking is a lot easier to find than in Flushing. As of 9÷1÷15 their dept of health grade has been updated to an A so that’s a relief though there has been a laundry list of violations in the past. I’ll still be back. The food is that good.

My friend recommended this place because they have various side dishes. The server was nice and kind. Not to mention this place was crowded. But I don’t like the fact they have C from inspection. The quality of food is important but sanitary is the first thing they should consider. I couldn’t finish my dish. Maybe I had wrong choice, but kimchi dol-pan was not even impressive. If you want to try dol-pan dishes I would recommend another korean restaurant on springfield blvd next to horace harding expwy

You have to plan your visit to GME strategically! Go during peak hours/days and you’ll be facing LONG waits and inattentive service. Determine ahead of time if you’re going to have BBQ/casserole or not because they will seat you at different tables depending on your decision, which could also mean a difference in wait times. The servers speak predominantly korean and chinese with little to no english. When I spoke english, they asked 3x if I spoke chinese! -.- They are understaffed and the service is very chaotic on weekends. Most of them are nice, but some can be rude and forgetful of customers’ requests(secondary to the stressful chaos I suppose). Their banchan selection is amazing. Just look at some of the photos here; they’re mainly of the awesome amount of banchan you get. But please don’t be fooled into thinking banchan is free! You pay for it in the form of overpriced main courses(relative to the many other nearby establishments). But again, you do get a great selection! The food is okay, but there is A LOT of MSG! Not the best kalbi out there and certainly not worth going on a weekend. If you can make it during the weekdays, it’s worth a try.

Can you eat a lot? That should be a pre-requisite for this place. I came here for lunch with my mom and we were sitting at a table that could seat 4 people. The waitress came by and asked me if I could move my phone off the table… I was confused UNTIL she filled the table with a ridiculous amount of banchan. My mind was blown by how big the serving sizes are and for an extremely affordable price point! The food isn’t the best Korean food I’ve ever had, but seriously… I could have had a full meal by just ordering a bowl of rice to eat with all the banchan. The stone bibimbap dish is MASSIVE… I warned you, don’t say I didn’t. It is definitely enough to feed 2+ people. The waitresses here are so sweet. When she saw that my mom and I finished the bibimbap, she congratulated us and told us we did a good job HAHA We were a bit embarrassed, but it was good to get the recognition. especially since my mom was on a mission to finish the bibimbap and ALL the banchan O. o The owner also continually walks around asking if anyone needs anything, which I thought was a great example of how management should be done. I’m definitely coming back next time, ready to feast.

Came here on the recommendation of the k-scrub manager at a nearby Korean spa, and must say I was not one bit disappointed. The food is delicious — had a seafood casserole that could have easily fed 2 more than the 3 of us, and was chock full of goodies, including mussels, clams, fish, crab, lobster, octopus, squid and shrimp. Also tried the seafood pancake which was one of the best I’ve had in ages(and I almost always get one every Korean place I go). It was perfectly crispy with a wonderful flavor, and filled with the right ratio of seafood to pancake batter. Finally — SIXTEEN banchan! AND the waitress zealously refilled any that finished up! I observed charcoal bbq, and will definitely come back(hopefully to upgrade this to 5 stars) by trying the bbq plus the other amazing looking dishes I saw on other tables. Be forewarned — it got busy fast around 6:30pm(Sun). Luckily we have a supper habit on Sundays and came early.

The last time I’ve been here is February. Since then, the prices have significantly increased. The unmarinated galbi price rose from $ 32 a serving to $ 38 a serving in a matter of months. Quickly glancing through the rest of the menu I realized that almost all of the other dishes underwent a price inflation. Although the galbi and the samgyubsal was just ok, I am giving this place four stars for their awesome side dishes. Any banchan ranging from raw marinated crab to octopus with gochujang paste was brought before me and my boyfriend. There is so much banchan that if practically fills up a table for four. Also, the staff is wonderful here. They are always attentive, polite, and quick on their feet. If you ask for something, they will have it in front of you in a matter of seconds. Judging from these prices, I can get a cheaper korean bbq meal in ktown but I will still be returning here for the awesome staff and wide variety of banchan.

On one of those rare occasions I make it out to flushing I went to lunch to meet a old friend: Ed C. It was a sunny afternoon during lunch time I had my heart set on eating at Sik Gak… Unfortunately when we arrived it was closed… Ed C recommended eating korean bbq… Sure why not. We decided on Galbi Ma Eul. It was a bustling afternoon when we got there nearly all tables were occupied except one. Hurray! no waiting. Our waiter, and after two tries got one cup for the person who did the asking. We had to wave and wave to get any kind of service, and even then it was never fast coming. The waiters seemed nice enough and quite busy. We were supplied with cold glasses of water a menu. We told the waiter we wanted two orders of Galbi(korean spare ribs). Even so, I left happy, with plenty of food in my belly. For a while, we had nothing but a banchan spread, but it was a fair start. There were a few kimchi, sprouts, marinated spinich, fried tofu, mash potatoes, brocholi with hot sause, oodang(fish cakes), denjang-chi-gae(similar to miso soup), fluffy eggs, some soy sauce pickles, gochujang, lots of greens for a meat wrap, macaroni salad, shredded cabbage salad, and on and on we had so much banchan it was insane. There was more than enough to munch on while we waited for the meat. . The server then brought in the coal chips for grilling and the meat was next. The service was great. Our server stayed with us the whole meal cutting the meat and making sure we had enough banchan and rice. .We had a lots of the galbi; it was delicious. The marinade was just right, lightly sweet and very flavorful, but the beef didn’t suffer without it either. It was tender and inherently juicy, and we ordered it again and again. The marbling of the meat was fantastic. There were a lot more beefy options to choose from, I was mildly curious, but the galbi was so good I did not want to be disappointed. I don’t think we missed out. We sat and ate meat and drank plenty of Hite beer. I left a happy man. So glad that Sik Gak was closed.
