Not sure what the knock is on this place. Food seemed fine to be and was only a tad bit overpriced. Service was meh but I never expect much at any Chinese restaurant let along a dim sum place. You always have to hunt down your own food from each cart, and that’s fine. It sits right on top of the new world food court and lines aren’t usually long. Decent dim sum spot.

Not sure if they’re under new management but the prices for dim sum almost doubled when I met two friends a few weeks ago for dim sum. My family and I have been coming here for a few years and it used to be around $ 2.25– $ 5 but now its increased to $ 3.75−7, so our $ 30 tab is around $ 70 before tip. It’s not too bad if you split it with a group of friends, but $ 70 is the average total for higher quality items ordered at dinner(think lobster and steak). The quality of the food hasn’t changed though, and staff seems a bit friendlier, with improved service.

So people aren’t wrong about the fact that it’s hard to get service there. You have to physically track down the ladies pushing the carts if you want food, which is a bit annoying but manageable. As for the food, it’s delicious and well-made. I love the crispy taro balls and beef ribs. It’s a pretty big place and it’s pretty with the chandeliers. Bathrooms have plenty of stalls and we went around 10am and there was no wait.

There are no words to describe how bad the food is here. No flavor whatsoever and pushy waiters. I wouldn’t recommend at all.

==============Warning============== =======DONOTCOMETOTHISPLACE==== Giving one star is too much … I used to like this place although there is usually a line for about 15 – 20 mins. Management has gone downhill which make me wonder why this place is still in business. Having such a restaurant in flushing is a shame. –HORRIBlE Service –Irresponsible management group –food is ok. But why come here when there are much more choices in the area? — parking is a nightmare. Don’t bother parking in their basement. It’s dark and its smell like dead fish all around you. We came here with a group of 7. We ended up spending $ 40 because we were assigned to sit really far where not many carts were coming by. Food were cold, ruined our appetite. At the end, the waitress criticized that we only spent $ 40 although we have 7 people. I immediately asked if there’s is a minimum charge of $ 400 for 7 people. I have never been to a Chinese dim sum restaurant where I received this kind of comments /services. People — there are many choices in flushing for dim sum. This is NOT a place where you want to spend your money. This is not that«grand» despite of its name.

This is not a bad place for dim sum. Can’t here with a friend on a weekday around 11am. Surprisingly it was already starting to get busy. On a Tuesday. He wasn’t as experienced as I was eating dim sum so we decided to have some fun. If we didn’t know what the dish was or what was in it then we got it. We also got a few common dishes. What’s good about this place is that it’s large and roomy. They have a wide selection of dishes. The food quality was hit or miss. Siu mai was standard. We also found many of them to be bland. Some of their special dishes like the baby squid in brown sauce was delicious. The chilled mango soup for dessert was also very good and refreshing after eating a huge meal. They have a parking lot in the basement for a decent price so it is feasible to drive here. I hear it gets really crowded on the weekends so come here early.

Don’t bother this place. It’s no service here, waiter ask tips before you leave. It’s terrible dim sum place. Service is minimal to none and they except at least 15% tips for do nothing. If you didn’t give them 15% or up, they won’t let you go, and the manager will help them ask for more money. DON’T COMETHISPLACE!!!

I’ve been here once or twice for dim sum and always thought it was mediocre. Here for a wedding tonight and the place really does transform into a «Grand Restaurant». There are huge chandeliers everywhere, plush walls and fancy place settings. I guess my review is based on the fact that I would have given it a 2 prior to tonight but since I’m impressed with the transformation, they get a 3.(Review not based on food quality-will have to do an update another day)

Came here for dim sum with friends last Saturday around 1pm. Restaurant was quite large, so we did not even wait a minute before we were seated even though we had a group of 7. Food and décor has improved since the last time I was here. The name also changed to Royal Queen although everyone still knows this place as Grand Restaurant. The clear round shrimp dumplings had a good amount of flavor without being overly salty. I also liked the sticky rice wrapped in leaves. Rice had a good consistency and flavor, but wish there was a larger piece of Chinese sausage in the middle. The portion was good since it was three small ones instead of one large one. Service was average for dim sum service. Also look for the photo machine near the entrance for a free photo although you’ll have to understand Chinese to use it.

Some things have changed here over the years and unfortunately not for the better. My family and I still come here for dim sum from time to time. The food here is still pretty good and they still have a good variety of dim sum. I do think their shrimp dumplings are good here compared to a lot of other restaurants, but the shrimp could have been better. Some of the ladies here may be pushing race carts as they may zoom by you without telling you what they have in their carts; they really don’t want to tell you and you’re being a pain by asking. That being said, the service here has gotten worse. As for the prices, they have either stayed the same or gone up, but regardless, definitely pricey. Maybe not the best option for dim sum, but still a decent option!

Why the average 2.5 stars?(Okay, it’s not like I’m doing much to boost its central tendency). The dim sum was decent, the service was fine, and the bathrooms were functional. We had organized a group of about 14 friends to do dim sum in Flushing, and admittedly I was a little gunshy about the 2.5 — and many other less forgiving ones — on Unilocal. But since it was new, and people like to have opinions we just decided to roll the dice and pick Grand. On a Sunday at 12:30PM, right after we told them our group size(though only four of us showed up early), they almost immediately seated us at one of the bigger tables up by the stage(win). When you walk in, the scale and décor of the restaurant stays true to the attempt-at-grandiosity of this establishment: «Grand,» «New World,» etc… It feels like you’ve landed on some garish alien colony with chandeliers the size of cruise ships. If you’re going to come to this restaurant, be reasonable with your expectations. Don’t come here expecting anything less than the on-to-the-next hustle of Flushing. This place can comfortably sit large tables that don’t make you wonder if there’s a health code violation, the dim sum came in many different varieties that even accommodated a Veg, and we had a grand ol’ time.(Had to).

No! Don’t bother with this place. My friends and I love dim sum, but this is the one place that made us say, while we were still at the table, «We’re never coming here again.» — I’ve had better dim sum, wouldn’t come back for the food. — I’ve had better service at dim sum. One lady actively avoided our table and no one could figure out how to get us our check. I won’t get into the details of that story but it wasn’t fun. — I feel like they’re more expensive than other places too. — Their bathrooms are really cool though. It looks like you’re heading towards a night club and you feel like you’re going the wrong way, but you’re not. Basically if you do decide to go to this place, definitely check out the bathroom.

An Apple-Bees of dim sum, right by the Main Street Flushing 7 train terminus, Grand Restaurant sits on the top floor of the New World Mall, an airy, high-ceilinged, chandeliered cafeteria of noisiness, smells of food, and busy busy people. It’s probably the largest dim sum dining hall in Flushing, but that doesn’t stop the waits on the weekend from extending over 45 minutes. Even though numbers are called practically one every ten seconds, you’ll wait a while for a table, especially if you come after 12 noon. Once you’re seated, wait staff can be hard to find, so good luck with water, soft drinks, tea, napkins, or utensils. They’re dropped once, and if you need more, you’ll have to flag someone down. But carts come fairly regularly, unless you’re stuck in a corner in the Siberia region of the dining room. There is ample selection and even shrimp rice rolls(the perennial favorite and always the first to run out) are in good supply. There is also a paper menu available at the hostess’s desk with English names for all the dim sum that you can order(and you can order from a nonexistent waiter as well if you so please). The quality is fair but not the best I’ve had. All the mainstays are there though: spare ribs with pumpkin, crystal shrimp dumplings, roast pork buns, egg tarts, congee, five or six different types of dumplings including snow pea leaf and shrimp dumplings, fried taro cake, and a comprehensive selection of sweets that even my grumpy father was amazed at. There are also stations where they’ll boil your vegetables for you and season them with soy sauce and sesame, and there are pots of stewing delicacies like clams with black bean sauce or stewed intestines(for the adventurous). The bill may be a little higher than other places in Flushing, but compared to Chinatown, it’s more than fair. However, they charge $ 1 per person for tea, even if you don’t drink it. Oh well, whatever.

I love how they still serve their dimsum on the little carts. Not many dimsum restaurants do that anymore, so definitely come here if you want that experience. Service was quick and efficient too. The food was great, but I especially loved the century egg congee which tasted just like the Hong Kong version.

Went to a good friend’s wedding at this place. The space is large and is the best Chinese wedding venue I have seen in the US. Food is awesome — maybe just average compared with food on weddings back in China, but definitely the most authentic and tasty one here in NYC. Some sea foods are not quite fresh but eating with a table of friends to celebrate another friend’s wedding is the best thing ever in my life. Thanks to this place gives us great food and sweet memories!

I don’t know why the reviews are ~so~ terrible for this place. That being said, the food is average. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the cart ladies are pretty helpful, but the dim sum itself sadly looks better than it tastes. It’s fresh enough, but though we tried a variety of options, nothing really stood out to me. It also seems kind of expensive — my friend and I shared maybe 10 dishes, and it came out to around $ 40. With the millions of options in the area, I would just go elsewhere.

For the expensive Yum Cha(Dim Sum for non Cantonese speakers) places in New York including Jing Fong, Golden Unicorn and Ping’s I will say this place by far has much better selections and usually more variety. Their Beef Rice Roll, Pumpkin Soup and a unique wrap consisting of Taro, Mushroom Chicken are truly signature Dim Sum dishes that have no equal. Though I would not come here for anything other than Yum Cha, a completely unexpected surprise which earns my FIVESTARS is that they offer Dim Sum everyday till 8−9pm(unless booked) though push cart service usually ends at 3p.

Despite all the negative reviews here for this restaurant, my two experiences here at Grand Restaurant had been positive. Grand Restaurant– a Cantonese dimsum restaurant located on the 3rd floor inside New World Mall. Just enter the mall from the Roosevelt Ave entrance and take the escalator straight ahead to the 3rd floor and you’ll be at the lobby. Parking: Parking is really horrible in Flushing especially during the weekends, your best bet is either park at the big parking lot(which is now privately owned) on 138th street &39th Ave or the small municipal parking lot at 41st ave and Main street. Seating: The place is huge but don’t be fool by it cause this place will get extremely pack during the weekend. The first time my friends and I came here, we got seated at the money spot(first table outside the kitchen) which means we get the freshest and hottest dimsum as it comes out… of course some of our friends had to flirt with the dimsum girls a little bit but in the end, it was worth it for some fresh hot dimsum. The service was good, someone came over to refill our tea pretty quickly and they were pretty polite about it. The second time my family and I came here on the day after Christmas and the place was jam packed, since we had around 16 people, they decided to give us a private room which used to be The One KTV that was recently renovated to accommodate private parties for the restaurant. It was comfortable and we had a special waiter that personally attended to our room and our plates were changed every 15 – 20 mins. All of the food were pretty good but my favorite 3 dimsum dishes had to be the Roast Pork Rice Noodle Roll, Har Gow(shrimp dumpling) and Pineapple bun with roast pork filling. Roast Pork Rice Noodle Roll is one of the best ones I had in Flushing, usually the problem with Roast Pork Rice Noodle Roll is either the roast pork is super lean or you see no roast pork at all. Here their roast pork rice noodle roll is none of the above, the rice roll is filled with plenty of semi fatty roast pork and the rice roll is super smooth. just perfect! DELICIOUS! The Har Gow(shrimp dumplings) were hot and the starch skin was rolled out very thinly so it doesn’t feel like you are eating a lot of carbs. Happy to report that the shrimps are deveined and it’s a whole shrimp instead of chopped up shrimp! Pineapple bun with roast pork filling– this is so weird but this whole sweet/savory flavor works for some reason, I never seen it before but my dad said it’s been out for a while, so I guess I’m a big noob in dimsum. I can see how it might not be for everyone but do give it a try and maybe you’ll fall in love with it! Price: Reasonable, over order and paid about $ 13 per person for dimsum but with family dimsum, I never pay especially when all the old people around the people tend to fight for the bill. haha Overall: Good service, delicious and innovative variation of food. Just make sure you come early or else be prepare to either share a table or wait 30+ mins for a table and get the roast pork rice noodle roll!

My friend had her bridal shower here. It’s a fancy looking place– I thought it looked very nice. We had tons of dim sum and a table in an area off to the side, so it was not among the throngs. My favorites were all the dumplings. The most interesting one had a ring around the top. It had nuts in it. The parking was indeed expensive– $ 18 for five hours. On weekdays it’s $ 7 for two hours and on weekends it’s $ 9 for 2 hrs. We didn’t try to get our parking validated, but I would definitely have asked. There is some pretty damning evidence on here– for example, the cover photo is a picture of a spoon with an Ikea sticker on it and there is a recent review with a picture of a roach! The owners need to fix these problems and remove the reviews. I was terrified to eat here and would not have chosen it based on Unilocal. But I figured it’s a dim sum place, like the others I’ve been to my entire life, before the DOH grades in the window and before Unilocal made it possible to know about people’s horrifying dining experiences. I probably ate at worse places without knowing it. Doesn’t make it right and doesn’t mean I’d do it on purpose, but what’s one more. So I went and it was delicious and I didn’t personally see anything wrong there. At the same time, I would not go back because of these reviews. I think it could be a good place for a special occasion but they need to clean up their Unilocal profile first.
