I went there last night for take out, The guy at the counter was rude from the start. I tried to be nice, smile and diffuse whatever was going on with him, but there was a chip on his shoulder for whatever reason and he continued to be very rude towards me. I felt very uneasy with having the same person handle my food, I watched him carefully after placing my order. Unfortunately, I did notice he put his fingers in his nose after handling my food, which definitely disgusted me for the next person, especially because he did not wash his hands, continued to handle the money then go back to the food. Yuk! To be clear everyone else there was super friendly, and were working very hard to keep a pleasant atmosphere, but one bad apple can spoil the bunch! When I did get the food home, the food was decent but, definitely not worth the price or the unpleasant experience. I usually order from Fontana’s, in comparison, their food is far better and for less money, you get more food. If you are nearby they are a better choice and way friendlier, also they deliver further.

We took our family of 5 here for the first time on a whim. We usually go to other neighborhood places for Gyro. We ordered calamari, the spicy feta dip, the platter for 4 and an order of fries. The calamari was excellent and my older son and I really like the dip(my wife and daughter were eh on it). My youngest son only ate the meat and fries. The meat platter was ridiculously large. We went home with half a tray of food. The platter for 2 would feed 4 easily. This is not gourmet Greek. This is working class, tasty food for a reasonable price. This is going to be our new place for Greek.

We are so happy we found Gyro World. It is delicious Greek food. The avelemono soup, chicken souvlaki, Greek gyro, haloumi and French fries are delicious, we go often and the food is always consistent. If you’re looking for well seasoned Greek food come here, you won’t be disappointed.

My family has been coming here nearly every weekend for over seven years. I remember when I was younger my dad and I would split the plate for two. yummmm:) That really says something about the food here, plus the staff is so warm and welcoming to us.

Excellent gyros. I brought my friend who moved to Maryland here since she was missing Greek food. The atmosphere is loud and busy, but the service was friendly. The prices were reasonable as well, as other Unilocalers stated. I will definitely be coming back!

Came here on Sunday night, really crowded. But I have no idea why this place is so popular. I ordered the gyro plater. The portion is just too big. I ate 1⁄3 and the rest is enough for the whole next day. I didn’t really like the lamb but their white sauce really hooked me up. And the pita bread was amazing. I may come back, just for their white sauce.

Got the platter for two and it’s huge with sausages, burgers, souvlaki, gyro meat all in the mix. And tomatoes, onion, lemon, fries. First and most important for me is the gyro meat was good but it lacked flavor, it’s not bad at all, toasted on the grill right but needs for flavor. I thought the sausage was good but not any different or better than any other place. The main piece of food that stood out was a lamb burger, there were two kinds, I liked the lamb burger because of the texture of the meat. And the two kinds of souvlaki were soft yet meaty. The Tzatziki sauce was not thick like I get from other restaurants, it seemed watered down and not flavorful. If that’s how it’s suppose to be fine, not bad, just the sauce was not much thicker than milk. All in all, yes, enjoyable.

Still as good as ever, but while I JUST finished my last bite of chicken souvlaki, the busboy comes from behind me and Grabs my plate and takes it away! THEN, my friend finishes her sandwich and the busboy Grabs her plate and the basket of fries that Still had fries in it and took everything away! Grabbing the flatware and napkins, etc. WOW! The place had maybe 5 tables of customers in it. On those Busy nights that have a line outside waiting, sure, rush everyone out, but on off hours someone’s gotta tell the busboy to RELAX! This was by far one of my Worst experiences here. I really HOPE they Fix this Immediately! I wish the Greek gyro was the same every time I went. It’s a crapshoot as to who seasoned it this time or last time or next time. And the cooks are very inconsistent as well. Sometimes the bifteki(chicken or beef) is RAW. All this and Gyro World is Still the Best around. I took a Greek Gyro to go for my mom. She LOVES the food here!

I’ve been coming here since God knows how long, their respective chicken gyro has been consistently good and they always has my favorite sauce(Tabasco sauce). Their chicken lemon soups are always good, and their tzatziki sauce are always so amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.

It’s hard to find a casual yet great Mediterranean place around these parts. Gyro world is family friendly, courteous and delicious. Well priced and greatly flavored. Ordered the grilled chicken platter and just opted for double salad(sorry I’m off carbs for now). Regardless, the chicken was seasoned perfectly and I enjoyed my meal. I’d come back.

Went to gyro world on a weekday for some gyros(what else?) for dinner with a few friends. For the price, the gyros here are decent. I got the pork gyro though I hear that their beef/lamb gyro is better. The fries weren’t soggy but weren’t particularly too crispy either. The service was alright but nothing to write home about. Pretty much everything about gyro world was just«okay.» Try it out if you’re around the area and are craving some gyros. My friends did mention that Fontana Famous Pizza & Gyro couple of blocks away is better so maybe not… This place is extremely average on all fronts.

As the closest competitor of Fontana’s a few blocks away, Gyro World wins solely because of the better prices — not because their meat or food is superior. Dined inside once, but would rather order takeout or delivery. I highly recommend their gyro platter, because portions are huge and it comes with a side salad. But the regular gyro sandwiches are plenty filling by themselves if you’re just looking to sate that craving. Additionally, the tatsziki sauce is great and you can really taste the fresh onion in it.

This is more accurately a 2.5. Their service is excellent — the staff there was really nice. They greeted us as soon as we walked in and we got to sit wherever we wanted. They’re open until midnight, which was perfect after watching a movie. I ordered a vegetarian wrap without the cheese. The description said there was grilled eggplant, peppers, lettuce, and tomatoes. But I got it and saw no eggplant… so just lettuce, peppers, and tomatoes. WTF? I could’ve made that myself at home with no effort. I asked someone about the eggplant, and he said, «no, there’s no eggplant in the wrap». I left it as it was but the fact that they charged $ 8.95 for such an underwhelming, unspectacular, generic salad, sad excuse for a wrap. That aside, everything was great. The eggplant dip was really good. My boyfriend liked his chicken souvlaki platter. The side of rice I got wasn’t dry, and the lemon potatoes had a hint of crisp. Also, olive oil is always better than butter, so they win points on that. I’m willing to give this place another shot, but please fix your wrap.

My fave Gyro, and I’ve had a *lot* of meat in my day. So you know the songs«Gyro»(as in, I can be your Gyro, baby), by Tzatziki Iglesias, as well as «(We Could Be) Gyros» by David Bowie, «My Hero» by the Food Fighters, «(And Then A) Gyro(Comes Along)» by Marinade Carry-out, and the song«Gyro» by those wizards of haunting, moving music — Nickelback — and the very controversial, outspoken«We Don’t Need Another Gyro»(um, yes we do) by Pita Turner. Not to mention«Working Class Gyro» by John Lemon-potatoes and the even more poignant, meaningful protest song«Gyros In A Half-Pita» by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. What to get: A Gyro, DUH.(Don’t get the pork one, lol). Well I’m jumping on the bandwagon I wrote a Gyro song, which I wrote with Bonnie Tyler in mind. Here it is. «Holding Out For A Gyro» Original Lyrics: Where have all the Greek men gone And where are all the Gods? Where’s the meat-wise Hercules To knead the rising dough? Isn’t there some white sauce upon some fiery meat? Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need I need a Gyro! I’m holding out for a Gyro ’til the end of the night It’s gotta be hot And he’s gotta be big And he’s gotta be fresh and done right! I need a Gyro I’m holding out for a Gyro ’til the morning light It’s gotta be good And it’s gotta be soon And it’s gotta be larger than life So I’m a Gyro fanatic, and I think I’ve found the best Chicago-style Gyro in existence. I’d like to send out a massive thank you to Ben, he made me go here, he was absolutely right. It rocked my world. What is a Chicago-style Gyro? It’s usually manufactured in Chicago, a spindle of smooth looking cylindrical ground beef-and-lamb. The Greek-style versions use Pork, and the Shawarma-style Middle Eastern versions(as well as Turkish Doner) use chunky grizzly meat that is sliced(and is also lovely), however, Chicago Gyro meat is shiny and smooth and distinctive. The most common Gyro in the US is the Chicago Gyro. What you think of as a Gyro is probably this one. And Gyro World’s version is the tastiest I think I’ve ever had. Why is this Gyro the best? The meat is delicious, spiced, flavourful, and plentiful. The pita is fluffy, hot, tasty, and perfect. The salad is fresh. The sauce is garlicky and yogurty and exactly what you want it to be. Everything combines into the perfect Gyro. Actually it’s fairly greasy, but I love greasy. It’s «the perfect greasy Gyro» perhaps. I was absolutely full when I walked in here from eating too much food. And yet I devoured every bite of this enormous Gyro. Well done, GW. Thank you so much Ben. It’s not just the food. I think the décor is *so* much fun. I have a lot more pix of it which I will upload later. Their bathrooms downstairs are nice too. While the wait time is often extensive and the price isn’t exactly dirt cheap, the service was fantastic. The young guy and young girl serving me were making conversation, they were sweet, happy, excited and enthusiastic, even though the place was really busy. I appreciated it. It made me feel like home while I was waiting for my Gyro. One thing, people. Be really careful crossing Northern out front. People severely speed down this quadruple-lane-in-either-direction main road. They come fast and they change lanes randomly, and if you’re crossing the street to get to Gyro World, it can be very treacherous. It’s not worth getting hurt, or worse, for a Gyro. Okay, it probably is worth it, but still. Waiting one extra minute won’t kill you. Running across this street, though, just might. Other best Gyros in the country: for real Pork, try BZ Grill in Queens. Atlanta: Nick’s on the East Side. Jimmy’s King Gyro in Davenport, IA is amazing, greasy, reminds me of GW. Mike & Tony’s in Pitt(a legend), best pitas. Central Gyros in Chicago, where it all started. Holy Land in Minneapolis. And the amazing Oakland Gyros in Milwaukee. Try them all! Thank me later! But most of all… Come to Flushing(of all places) for my favourite Chicago-style Gyro in the country. It’s so orgasmically good, it is straight in at #1 on my list. Now let’s finish the review with more Bonnie Tyler, who is still, as we speak, Holding Out For A Gyro. Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There’s someone reaching back for me Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet I need a Gyro! I’m holding out for a Gyro ’til the end of the night It’s gotta be hot And he’s gotta be big And he’s gotta be fresh and done right! I need a Gyro I’m holding out for a Gyro ’til the morning light It’s gotta be good And it’s gotta be soon And it’s gotta be larger than life And it’s gotta be larger than Fox’s c… (Bonnie Tyler stops singing) Bonnie: «What the f*** is this? Who are you, Robin Thicke?» Fox: «No… not Robin. Just Thicke.»

Gyro World makes a good gyro, now that being said I might be a little jaded since my favorite Greek joints are located in Astoria. One thing they do well here are burgers. My son ordered a cheeseburger and it was cooked well, juicy and delicious. I was able to steal a bite before he ate the whole thing. We ordered the calamari since it was highly recommended by a buddy of mine, that being said the calamari was quite delicious, not over battered with nice size pieces of calamari, complete with tentacles accompanied by a sweet and savory marinara dipping sauce. Now this is Gyro World and I wanted it to rock my world, but I was swayed, not rocked by the Greek(Pork) Gyro. I felt the pork was under seasoned and didn’t quite have the flavor profile I was expecting. I also really craved some burnt and charred pork ends, the gyro tasted more like a pull pork gyro, but overall it was good. We also ordered the Chicken and pork Souvlaki. The Chicken was moist and seasoned nicely and the cubed pork was not too chewy. The tzatziki sauce and pita were delicious and not too bready The waitress who served us was nice, but seemed as though she didn’t want to be there. The place is clean and I wouldn’t mind coming back to try the other many dishes they have to offer. I haven’t really travelled and sampled all that Gyro world has to offer. My next trip around hopefully I can bump it up another star.

I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Gyro World from my sister for a few years and we finally gave it a try with the whole family. Before Gyro World, my family use to goto Fontana’s which is down the street. I never liked it but my family did. I found Fontana’s to be too salty for my taste buds so I usually went to Avli’s on Bell. Now that I’ve tried Gyro World, this is my go-to spot for gyros from now on. With a dinner party of 8, we had a chance to try a few different things and they were all superb! First off, this spot was jammed packed on the night we went. It was so crowded and there was a line for take out orders as well. It was busy! Right off the bat, that was a good sign for good food to come. I had the traditional Greek style Gyro which is made with pork. I’m not the biggest fan of pork but this one was so juicy, savory and tender. Good pita and tzatziki sauce for damn sure! My father had the lamb/beef gyro. It was pretty juicy and not as salty as Fontana’s. Our friends had their salad, spinach pie, and chicken souvlaki. They said the spinach pie was excellent and the chicken souvlaki was great. Lightly charred on both sides and was not overcooked nor dry. Verdict — The service could be a little slow. It is hard to grab the server’s attention sometimes because it is so busy and hectic. I must of tried ordering a beer 4 times and it didn’t come until the end of our dinner. Considering how good the food was, I could let that one slide. Finding a parking spot shouldn’t be too difficult. We came during the months of winter. There were still some snow banks piled up on some parking spaces. After a few loops around each block, I’m certain you’ll find a space that is a reasonable walking distance to the restaurant. Now that the weather has cleared up, it should not be a problem anymore.
