Came here with friends for dinner! I chose this place because I saw pictures of the UYE that was held here last Thanksgiving and the great reviews that accompanied them. However, I only found this place to be average. My group of 8 arrived at around 6 and there were still a lot of tables available inside since it was an early dinner. Compared to the other Taiwanese restaurants in Flushing, I would say Red Chopstick has a pretty great décor! I liked the wooden décor of this place and the fact that the tables/utensils were clean. Service was good as well but that’s probably because there weren’t that many diners in the restaurant when we were eating. Oyster pancake– I think this one was better than the one I got at 66 Lu’s Seafood last time. I liked how the edges of the pancake were slightly crispy but did not like how the oysters were all concentrated in the middle of the pancake instead of dispersed evenly. Stinky tofu– Similar to the ones at 66 Lu’s Seafood. They weren’t particularly stinky, which is good for first-timers trying this dish, and it did come with a handful of veggies on top that tasted great when mixed with the sour sauce. Pork roll– In English it’s called pork roll but in Chinese it’s called chicken roll… HUH? Either way, I wasn’t able to tell which meat it was since the meat was ground up anyway. It was a little too mushy for my liking but the fried/crispy portion on the outer edges was alright. Cold jellyfish– Sorry, they make it better in Cantonese restaurants. I wouldn’t say the flavoring was the best and the portions were kind of small. Pan fried flounder– Fish was crispy and wasn’t dry! Tasty! Three cup chicken– They make it better at Mama Lee’s. This one was way too salty and had too many large pieces of ginger in the dish. Fried pig intestines– Just had this dish less than a week ago at a Cantonese restaurant in Brooklyn and it was way better there. The ones here were not crispy enough. Flavor was alright. Shredded pork with bamboo– I’ve never tried bamboo before but it actually tasted pretty good! Still, I found this dish to be a bit too salty. Stir fry pork and tofu– SALTY! Also the tofu was cut into really thin pieces so I wasn’t even able to taste the texture of it. While there were some dishes here that I enjoyed, I would say that overall, the food here was pretty meh. For me, the best Taiwanese restaurant in Queens is still Mama Lee’s! Décor and service here was good though but food is a little lacking.

Love 豆瓣皖鱼!The fish with soybean sauce. The three cup chicken is good, but we two are already full after eating the fish.

They didn’t provide enough food for delivery order. We made 3 orders of the steamed grass carp fish, all of them are only 3 – 4 pieces, not enough for lunch at all.

Linny F organizes a great UYE, we took over the restaurant and we were around 30 hungry Unilocalers. We had a family style take over, thanks to Anna H and Cynthia D that teach me a few things of the Asian culture. Like how the youngest is the one that service tea to everybody, and when you grab a plate is should be nice to ask everybody if she or he want some of the food. The Food(La comida): we had several different plate of the Taiwanese culture, Taiwanese Chicken Roll, Stinky Tofu, Taiwanese Sausage, Pork with Bamboo Tips, Three Cup Chicken, Fried Intestines with Scallion, Slice Boiled Pork Belly, Minced Pork over rice. I did like almost everything that was served this day, but I am not a fan of stinky tofu, when I ate this one, I thought was going to have bad breath the rest of the night. My favorite one was Pork Belly, Minced Pork over rice. What I can say about this one, I love pork and rice. The staff did a good job with all our tables. Thank you Linny F. for setting up this wonderful event that evening! and the rest of the Unilocalers for being there.

Stinky Tofu adventures continues! Under Linny F.‘s professional guides of wonderful Taiwanese spots in Queens, many Unilocalers and I found ourselves here on a Monday night! We tried various of popular dishes such as the Stinky Tofu, Three-Cup Chicken, Fried Big Pig Intestine, Beef with Bamboo Shoots, Pork Belly, Fried Flounder Fish, Watercress, and other goodies. My favorite dish had to be the Fried Flounder Fish and the Stir-fry Watercress. Flounder is my favorite fish growing up. The golden brown fish was served as a whole. It takes skill to pull the meat apart from its bones but we managed! Even without much sauce, it was crispy and delicious. Stir-fry Watercress was a good company for the rice! It was cooked perfectly for the stems were still crunchy. Thank you Linny F. for setting up this wonderful event that evening! Thank you Unilocalers for making this such a fun night!

Linny F has become the official Unilocal Taiwanese Queen. This was her 4thUYE event and of course, stinky tofu was in all of them. She has hosted events at King’s Café, OK Ryan, Taiwanese Gourmet and now Red Chopstick and all were great events with great people and great food. Red Chopstick was a pretty straightforward looking Asian restaurant, it was pretty generic but large enough to hold our group. I was pretty happy with the food and especially happy their stink was on the milder side. Score! The food: Taiwanese Chicken Roll– I enjoyed the texture, it was nice and meaty with good flavor and it was not really greasy. Stinky Tofu– Praise the Lord it was less stinky, thank god. But still something I would like to skip. Por favor Taiwanese Sausage– I am normally a big fan of Taiwanese sausage but the one here was kinda lacking in flavor. Pork with Bamboo Tips– This is kinda the dish I associate with Taiwanese food and the one here was solid. It’s pretty was pretty standard but good. Three Cup Chicken– The other dish I associate with Taiwanese food, it was respectable, I enjoyed it. Fried Intestines with Scallion– I have had this dish at other places and I normally like it, the one here was just OK, I really wish it was more crispy. The one here was kinda lifeless. Slice Boiled Pork Belly– This dish didn’t do it for me, it just tasted like boiled pork belly and the sauce did very little to help with flavor. Minced Pork over rice– This is another staple Taiwanese dish and this was surprisingly skippable, it was surprisingly hd very little flavor.

Linny F. first took me here to get stinky tofu, which we then preceded to go to New World Mall to eat. It was crispy, nice and stinky with pickled napa on top. I think the stinkyness must have built up in the container. The restaurant is pretty large and good for large groups, so came here again for a Taiwanese UYE hosted by Linny again! She did an amazing job as usual. The food here is good, but I have had much better Taiwanese food in Flushing. I also like Taiwanese Gourmet in Elmhurst better. Taiwanese Chicken Roll — Pork roll is a more accurate name to describe it, as there’s actually no chicken in this. But maybe it’s supposed to imitate chicken? The one they had here is good, but I like the ones where it has more carrots, water chestnut, and maybe taro mixed in the meat for more crunch. I think this one had water chestnut. Fried intestines with scallions — I love any intestines dish, so I ate a lot of this the whole night. I wonder how they got the intestines to be such a bright red color. Pork with Dried Bean Curd and Chives — This and the Pork with Bamboo tips are a safe bet to order. Usually guaranteed to be delicious with all that soy sauce. I also love anything with chives. Pork with Bamboo Tips — Same as the Pork with Dried Bean Curd, but better because this has bamboo shoots instead. Stinky Tofu — Not as stinky as the first time I had it. I guess it built up in the container the first time around. Sauteed A-choy — I think I’ve been deprived of vegetables lately, because I couldn’t stop eating this. It was on the oily side, but light in flavor. Chinese Watercress — I ate more of the A-choy, but this was standard. Always a crowd favorite. 3 cup chicken — I don’t really remember this except that it wasn’t too oily which is better. Usually avoid getting this because it’s become too over-ordered for me. Chinese Sausage — Not the plump, juicy variety that Taiwanese sausage is supposed to be. Some restaurants make it themselves. This one seems to be store bought, but not the same place from King’s Café which has really good Taiwanese sausage. Or maybe it was cut too thinly? Minced pork over rice — Didn’t taste this, but looked pretty again. Also another dish I tend to not order at Taiwanese restaurants because it’s too over-ordered and has become boring for me. And why pay for something you can make yourself? I really want to come back to try their other dishes that I didn’t get to taste. Just making a list for myself here so I remember for next time, so please ignore: bawan, rice sausage, sauteed pork blood, sauteed intestines, sauteed kidneys, sauteed stinky tofu.

I came here recently for the first time with a big group for a UYE… Thanks to Linny F. for organizing! We shared family style and Linny ordered for our table and I think there was a god variety of Taiwanese dishes. I, myself added an order or pan fried flounder for my table. To start off the night, we had minced pork and tea egg over rice. This was absolutely delicious! I really enjoyed the wonderful flavors in this dish and the pork was cooked perfectly. Then there was shredded pork with bamboo tips which were quite good. The sauce was tasty and the pork and bamboo worked together well. There was also shredded beef with tofu and onion, which was full of seasoning, with a great sauce. I also had slice of vegetarian duck, which I liked a lot, surprisingly. It was a small dish, so we all got only one piece. I would have liked more of that. There were a couple of green veggie dishes, and the they tasted fresh and light. We also had Taiwanese sausage, which was served on lettuce with a side of garlic(not sure what that was for), which was just okay. I prefer Chinese sausage, which is a bit sweeter and has richer taste. Or, maybe my mom just makes it better. =) Last came the fried flounder, which was good. I really liked the crispy skin… They fried it to perfection, though wish there was more meat on the fish. I think my favorites were the minced pork over rice, shredded beef dish and the fried flounder. What I didn’t try were the pork intestines(even though they were presented beautifully) and the stinky tofu. I wanted to order Tang Yuan(glutinous rice balls in a soup) with black sesame filling for dessert, but unfortunately they only had the kind with peanut filling, so I was sad about that. The prices were great! We had so much food and it only came out to approximately $ 15 per person, including the tax and tip(a little more if the person ordered drinks). The service was pretty good, however some of the waitresses did not speak English, but at least I know some Chinese. Besides the language barrier, the servers were easy to flag down and brought over anything we asked for fairly quickly.

It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten at Red Chopstick, but thanks to Linny F., I had the pleasure of coming back for a UYE a couple of days ago. Because the place isn’t huge, I felt like the UYE took over half of the restaurant with two large tables and one smaller VIP(read: late-comers) table. The downside to not sitting at the big table was I didn’t get to try as many dishes; the upside is sharing the table with Jando S.(the King of Queens… see what I did there??) and three other Unilocalers and having more food to ourselves. The service was great and the food came out pretty fast. We ordered the standard Taiwanese staple dishes, including: 1) Minced pork over rice — so much soy sauce goodness. 2) Stinky tofu — not as pungent in smell, but slightly in taste.(I prefer the type that smells awful but tastes normal.) 3) Beef stew noodle soup — could’ve used a little more star anise and spice and less salt, but definitely an impressive portion. 4) Taiwanese«hamburgers» — the Taiwanese version of a Japanese pork belly bun. It wasn’t too bad, but I still prefer the Taiwanese version. 5) Three cup chicken — a good combination of savory and sweet. Beware of the chicken bones. 6) Sauteed Chinese watercress — can never go wrong with simple garlic sautes. Three stars is by no means a bad experience; I did have a great time at the event and I ate until I was stuffed. But due to vast competition in the Flushing area, I have to say that Red Chopstick didn’t leave as big of an impression as other Taiwanese restaurants have. That being said, I certainly wouldn’t turn down the opportunity of coming back here to try other dishes.

I recently came here with a pretty big group for dinner and my thoughts were that it was pretty good Taiwanese food. It’s very authentic! The small restaurant has 3 or 4 big tables with a few tables on 2 elevated sections, all of it is decorated in a wood, old world décor. The food we had a whole lot of different things — most of which i don’t remember too well but know it was tasty. The only thing that was a miss in my opinion was the fried flouder we had. It was way over fried to the point the meat was too crunchy, but still the flavor was good. The stinky tofu — was not stinky enough. It was mild stinky at best, but again — flavor of the dish was good. If you have a few rowdy people there — the whole restaurant gets really loud since it is such a small place. Cash only so remember that.

Shout out to Linny F. for organizing and slaying this post Thanksgiving dinner! Fabuloso seeing familiar, friendly faces and meeting new ones :) Pork! Pork! And waaayyy more pork! You get the gist… thing is, since I no longer eat pork, I had to happily indulge myself in beef, chicken, duck and veggies! Vegetarian Duck — My Fave by far! And I don’t even really like duck! Fried Flounder — not enough meat & way too bony; still tasty though Stinky Tofu — first timer! Smell didn’t bother me, it was the horrid aftertaste that chased my soul! Three Cup Chicken — yummilicious! Shredded Beef — 2nd fave, must try! Sauteed Watercress — give me all of the sauteed veggies of the world! Didn’t Try – smelled and heard great things though :) Chinese Sausage Minced Pork over Rice Steamed Pork Belly Shredded Pork with bamboo tips Intestines Food — Inexpensive, delish and portion heavy Service — whatever your hang ups may be, don’t bring them here :) …just the way it is Décor — somewhere between east Asian rustic to eat, drink and be merry… now pay with cash and get the hell outta here… we have hungry people waiting!

A fun Taiwanese restaurant experience. If you love pork, this is the spot. Pork Belly sliders, steamed pork belly, minced pork with pickled veggies and egg over rice are all must try’s. Authentic stinky tofu perfectly crisp served with cabbage. And try the vegetarian duck — delicious! And the best part, it’s very economical. Great for kicking back with friends and some beer!

Thank you to the amazing Linny F. for putting together another amazing Taiwanese UYE tonight at Red Chopstick. She most definitely popped many cherries hehe. I arrived with my buddy Cynthia D. and her friend Gerardo A. then spotted that Beenish H. was first to arrive. Yup Unilocal has taken over the restaurant tonight =) Linny F. ordered for her table and had a duplicate set of dishes for my table along with a lot of my new Unilocal peeps such as Jeannie T. + her hubby *about time we finally meet face to face lol*, Helen L. + 1, Richard L., Kathy X., and Gerardo A. then I was sandwiched between Gloria H. and Cynthia D. Linny’s table had people as well Steven S. + Sophie A., Amy C., Sierra B. and among others but you get the point it was a lot of Unilocalers reunited under one roof. Of course Mr. Jando has his own table with Lorraine D. *finally got to meet her and she’s awesome* and among others. Food: Minced Pork over Rice *mmm very yummy and was able to get some yoke from either it was a Tea Egg or Dark Soy Sauce Egg*, Steamed Pork Belly *thin slices way better to pick up the delicious flavor from the dipping sauce*, Shredded Pork with bamboo tips, Three Cup Chicken *very delicious and my second time having it*, Pan Fried Flounder *additional at our table only and it was so crispy*, Sautéed Watercress *one of my favorites veggies but usually its sautéed with garlic… I guess it all went to the Chinese Sausage dish lol*, Shredded Beef *mmmmm yummy*, Chinese Sausages *my favorite kind and I didn’t get why there was a stack of raw garlic on the side of the plate*, Chicken Roll *very different with this crispy bean curd skin I believe* and many more in the pictures. Everything was superbly delicious but I am too Americanized to eat Stinky Tofu and Intestines… yea I know I am weird!

Great Taiwanese food, Mapo tofu is a must. Smelly tofu is not my thing, but friend loved it so maybe worth a try if you’re feeling super adventurous and want to eat something that could potentially wipe out your appetite. Also had: Salt and pepper pork chops were bomb — crispy and savory 3 Cups Chicken(San Bei Ji) — I enjoyed the flavoring in the chicken, but wasn’t too fond of the bones that came with it The interior design has a very«rural Asian cottage in the middle of some mountains» kind of feel, so that’s definitely another plus. They also gave us complimentary tea and cabbage soup. Red Chopstick makes the best Mapo Tofu I have ever had and if anyone has had better, please let me know because I am hooked on that stuff.

Nice, large comfortable restaurant, there’s several wooden booths to sit in. The stinky tofu was a fairly large portion, and I like the texture of the stinky tofu here the best. Very crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, which helped it soak up the sauce. The pickled cabbage on top was pretty good and pretty sweet. The tofu needed much more stink to it, it was rather toned down. The oyster pancake was so-so, the egg and red sauce on top tasted fine, but the whole thing was too thick. It was more like a fluffy cake texture, so the ingredients don’t seem like they melded well together. The oysters, eggs, and little bit of green vegetable at the bottom all were rather separate. The clam with loofah vegetable was ok, the clams used were small. The loofah was very soft, spongy, and almost slimy, not my thing. Overall, I would only get the stinky tofu again. Also, I found the service not very nice or courteous,. That’s not very Taiwanese-like.

I came here today with my bf and his family for his graduation lunch. There were so many dishes like: fish, vegetables, fried brown rice, cold appetizer dish, clam soup, lobster, pork chops, frog feet, and squid. The fried brown rice was a different version than regular fried rice, which I liked. I like the duck that came with the cold appetizer that was delicious. I like the garlicky green vegetables. The clam soup and lobster was a little bland for my taste. My the favorite was the frog feet, first time I ever had it and the black pepper sauce made it great, it was just hard to eat around the knuckles.

I was brought here because friends raved about how good it is. Turns out recently the food quality has degraded. I ordered a few known Taiwanese dishes and they all pretty mediocre. Ordered oyster omelet, it had egg omelet clumped up on top and the oyster on bottom. The tapioca dough wasn’t sticky at all more like clumpy and dry. The sauce was totally off and not tasty. Had the tempura which should be in a broth but it was chopped and put on the side not Taiwanese traditional. It also wasn’t very authentic. Ordered some shredded beef and small hot green chili peppers, it was ok not great. Overall I think there’s a lack of authenticity that I would expected that wasn’t there.

After years of eating at Red Chopstick, I feel like it’s about time I give an update. Out of all the different Taiwanese places I have tried, I realized that I love Red Chopstick. No other place in Flushing makes better stinky tofu. I would have never thought I would say this, but the other places’ stinky tofu just isn’t stinky enough! The cabbage that goes along with it is equally as yummy — it kind of reminds me of Chinese style kimchi. I’ve also slowly grown a liking to their pork chop. My usual is an order of pork chop over noodles, and a stinky tofu to share. Their braised, minced meat is pretty good too, and cheap. If you’re not too hungry, it’s a small portion that’s perfect.
