Rest In Peace Best 1 Sushi. For the longest time, I loved coming to this place! I was so disappointed when I heard it got burnt down by the fire. They were opened by actual Japanese people, which is rare nowadays unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for your food. The foods were delicious, cheap, gigantic, and creatively decorated. Definitely, if anyone knows where they have relocated, I would love to find out.

I love this place. Food: A wide variety of special rolls created by the owner who is also the chef. Update-I know this restaurant closed down but if anyone knows if they opened a new location in Forest Hills or Queens, please let me know!

This restaurant will be missed. The staff was awesome, the specialty rolls were amazing. There was a fire there and it looked for a time that they were cleaning up, next thing the for rent sign was in the window…:(Not so sure the victim of high rents comment is accurate.

Been eating here since they opened years ago. Freshest sushi in all of queens. I always get Sunday morning roll(cooked salmon batter dipped rolled with rice outside and then fried) Their sashimi are always in large portions and always fresh! i moved out of the neighborhood last year but still can’t seem to replace them(im in manhattan now) — crazy!

It is a small sushi place not usually crowded even though Their sushi is always fresh and yummy! Great specialize rolls, Must try Rising Sun! The staff is always so sweet and welcoming. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for sushi when I’m around forest hills.

After ordering a few times, and having a few bad experiences, I have going to change my initial review. The specialty rolls are still awesome, but the plain old fish can sometimes seem that… old. It sucks, cause I can honestly say at this point, if I want Sushi, I am going to Manhattan.

This isn’t high-end bougie sushi; if you’re looking for that, go back to your country(oh wait, if you’re looking for that, you probably think you OWN this country). This is, however, tasty sushi, a nice selection of specialty rolls, and a really cute(albeit very small) space to eat if you’re eating in. The best sushi I’ve had in Fo-Hi so far.

Craziness!!! Place was smaller than I thought, but a place of peace and quiet is always a good place to make noise. Two orders to satisfy my appetite, both under $ 20= def worth. Unagi bowl had more in it than expected! that means they don’t rip you off.

I have gone to this place countless times and I love it here! It is small, simple and the owners are so nice! The price is very decent for sushi! It is usually for small parties, but I ate there with a party of 10 once because the owner was nice enough to put all the chairs together for us. Even with a party of 10, there was still about three doubles tables left. The décor definitely has an authentic Japanese aura to it because of the wooden floors and large lanterns hanging outside the front of the restaurant. First thing I do is I ALWAYS get the seaweed salad! It tastes sweet and slightly sour from the vinegar. They add sesame seeds on the top and it goes perfect with the dish! It is a little chewy and tastes great, so if you have never tried seaweed before, please don’t be intimidated and at least give it a chance! I also go there for the sushi, even though they have other non-sushi dishes. They make a lot of specialty rolls(illustration provided along with description of the roll, making it very comprehendible!). A lot of sushi places give you just the name of the dish, leave out the description or picture, leaving you confused! However, here they make it so much easier to understand what it is you are eating! It is great to be able to put a picture with a name. I ALWAYS order the Caterpillar roll which contains spicy tuna, cucumber, and seaweed in the center, all covered with avocado slices and spicy mayo sauce on top. They even make it look like a caterpillar by adding caviar at the front to make it the head and cucumber antennas. I love avocado and I love spicy tuna, which is why this makes it a perfect combo, even better than a regular spicy tuna roll. But of course, I still order spicy tuna rolls. ;) I have tried several of their specialty rolls including: the Rainbow roll(California roll wrapped with 5 kinds of raw fish), Paradise(Tuna, Salmon, Eel, with spicy crab salad), and Sky and River(has tempura shrimp, avocado), and those were decent. I also got the Chirash which is assorted sashimi in a rice bowl, with sides. This is good for those who enjoy sashimi! Another favorite is the Unagi bowl! They give a large piece of broiled eel and teriyaki sauce, also in a bed of rice with sides. The eel is so tender and it slides in your mouth. The teriyaki sweetness really puts the fish at ease. The sides are very enjoyable and are basically samples of all the other small appetizers that they sell(including the seaweed salad and crab salad). I really enjoy this place. It is in a nice area where you could go shopping before or after you eat! Perfect for a lunch or dinner date with friends. DEFINITELYRECOMMEND!

I went in to grab a quick take out. I’ve never been, so decided to try it out. I got a Tuna Roll, Salmon Roll, and one of their specialty rolls. For a quick sushi fix, this is the place to go. However, their fish definitely was not the most fresh, but how much can you ask for when it’s $ 3 a regular roll?

The noodle soup is great. The place has a Spartan Japanese décor, and actually reminded me of the small restaurants in Tokyo. I don’t know how it survives being on a side street off the main drag(Austin Street). Perhaps because it is such a nice little place…

Food: Solid place for takeout sushi. The fusion rolls are innovative. Quality of the fish isn’t world class, but for the price paid(3 bucks for a standard roll, up to 10 for a fancier roll) and the quality received, it is dirt cheap. Caterpillar roll(love avocado) and spider roll(soft shell crab is fried well, maintains crunch when brought home) are some I personally enjoy. Stay away from the tempura/deep fried rolls when ordering take-out, they always end up soggy. Tried and failed enough times now, learn from my mistake. Take the place for what it is, cheap take home sushi, and local Forest Hillers will appreciate this place. Drink: Soda and some Asian soda. Service: Really friendly cashier/waitress and chef. Hooks up the ginger and wasabi when you ask for more. Crowd/Ambiance: At most only one table would be seated, so orders come out fast. Customers consists of locals and locals. Small space but since it’s always empty it feels spacious and bright. Tiny kitchen at end and tacky ornaments and items for sale on the side wall. There is outdoor seating for those interested.

This place is pretty reliable. The BF and I order delivery from them pretty regularly and they are fast! The Chirashi box is quite a bargain. Their fish is pretty fresh(although on occasion their tuna and squid can be a little questionable). But when I quick fix to my sushi craving or when Im too lazy to go out to Yasu, I’ll order from here!

Ok. I definitely agree with the critic«Keri F.» and I am a little disappointed that I was not the first to write a review on this place. They have a really extensive choice of rolls and I’ve tried the novelty ones and they are really fantastic! When this place opened my mom and I quickly rushed at the chance to try them especially since there were sooo many different types of rolls that you can’t really find anywhere else. So yes, maybe someone else was making the rolls and the avocado was bad… but if the owner makes it he knows to do a great job… I eat here all the time and he practically knows me already. As far as the venue, it’s really quite cozy and great place to just have lunch or dinner. OHYEAH! and for a place with such a broad selection of rolls… the price aint bad either.

This is a quitessential sushi bar. If you are looking for some Japanese food, there are a few items on the menu. However, if you’re simply looking for some fantastic sushi, this is the place! Coming from Long Island, i’ve had some amazing sushi. Negihama in Long Beach, and of course Kotobuki in Babylon(you must visit). So when i moved to Queens, i needed to find a great sushi place. I tried about 6 different places from kew gardens to rego park(up and down queens blvd). Some places were OK. Best #1 truly lives up to its name. They have all the classic rolls you would ever want, plus about 30 other creative and delicious combos. The fish is incredibly fresh, as well as all of the veggies. The other reviews must have went with old owners, or on some crazy off day, but I go a few times a week, and I have never felt remotely sick, or felt as though the food was less the perfect. If you live anywhere in queens, this is a definite stop to make for the sushi lover!

The food tasted decent besides the fact that the Avacado was bad… i mean bad… black spots all over it! I only looked at it because it tasted funny to begin with. Later on like an hour after we got home I got diarrhea! Yes I said it! Diarrhea!!! No plans on going back there.
