I get off the plane in the middle of the night and starving. Searching around this was the best option I could find at such an hour. Seriously this is some of the best cart food I’ve had and will get this again if I am ever back in the area. Guy was super nice and friendly. Great price. This guy and cart saved me from starvin! Keep it going man!

I recently tried a chicken gyro from this halal cart. The worker who took my order and prepared my food was courteous and efficient. The sandwich itself was just ok to me. The chicken was incredibly tender but I did not appreciate the flavor of the white sauce because it tasted too much like salad dressing to me. The food here is definitely no competition for the Halal Guys in Manhattan.

Seriously overrated halal cart on 71st and Austin in Forest Hills. Very limited selection of just chicken, falafel or gyro over rice. Then, they’ll slop excessive amounts of various sauces over each platter. Ordered the combo chicken and gyro over rice. I wanted the red sauce(not knowing what the hell it is) on it since I hate yoghurt sauce and knowing the green sauce is liquid pain. I didn’t want the sauce splattered all over so I asked for it on the side, a simple request which the guy couldn’t do for me and was quite rude about it. Naturally, since the meat was dry, it sucked. The rice wasn’t that flavorful either. Will never come here again, they have a poor attitude and the food was bland. There are much better halal carts in Queens so I would avoid this one.

This is a good incarnation, nothing better nothing worse. There are just days you want some Halal lamb and chicken on rice with«white» sauce, for that specific need this place definitely hits the spot. The guy who runs it seems pretty efficient, good place to just fill your belly for lunch.

The way they cook the meat weather you get rice or sandwich, it’s just awesome! whenever I m around steinway I always get their food, it’s very different from everyone else.

Great halal find. Even though it’s $ 6 without soda, the guy gave me Pita when I asked at no extra charge! There was so much rice. He really filled it up to the top!!! Chicken is moist and shreadable so it was really good. Lamb was cut into cubes not slices and thought that was really crispy and great as well. Great eats if you’re hungry and love halal! :)

I recently had this cart based on previous reviews and can definitely say this fulfilled my Halal Guys craving. I even found it more flavorful. I ordered the chicken over rice. If you’re in the mood for chicken and rice in Forest Hills, go here!

Excellent food and perfect when I’m feeling to lazy to get Halal Guys. Very generous portions: meat, rice and veggie is always packed and meats are seasoned well. Always ask for pita bread(it’s free) and white sauce, hot sauce(the red one) and green sauce(a little hotter one). All that for just $ 6 and I highly recommend the chicken & lamb over rice, not just chicken. If there’s a line, it can be a little slow because it is a one man show that rotates with shifts.

Bless this food cart. It’s the reason I don’t have to trek out into Manhattan for top notch halal food. The ever popular chicken over rice is a classic for a reason. The chicken and rice is seasoned so well, and I personally like more texture with each bite since most of the dish is moist. Ask for extra lettuce! If you’re buying it and driving home like I did, tie the bag or else your car will smell like chicken and rice for the next two days. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing…

«This is my halal cart. There are many like it, but this one is mine» The Sahara Halal Cart is not my best friend, my life, and I certainly don’t see myself mastering it(or it mastering me), but these fellas sure do serve up a dope plate of food. Lamb(extra crispy), with peppers, onions, white sauce, and extra hot sauce is my go-to order and when executed perfectly sets this cart apart from all the others. Proximity was the main reason I decided to check this place out, but the quality is what keeps me coming back. The lamb here isn’t finely ground, instead you get nice chunks that are full of flavor beyond salt. The green hot sauce is nice, and not gratuitously spicy. The rice isn’t overly greasy, and won’t leave you bloated afterwards. They’re generous with portions and things are pretty fresh. The consistency varies visit to visit depending on who is working, but even at their worst, they’re a cut above the rest. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

This is no halal guys but it’s a nice neighborhood option for when we are not in the mood to go far and want a cheap eat. $ 6 for chicken over rice or chicken & lamb over rice. The rice is brown in color and white sauce is liberally put on top right before the guy closes the lid. Not too much salad(iceberg lettuce) but it’s enough. The red sauce has a nice kick but don’t think it’s as spicy as the Halal guys. The 4 – 5 times I have gotten food there, I don’t think I have ever gotten pita bread — not sure if it’s free when asked or extra $$? Will check next time and update. Not as oily as halal guys also which is a plus.

Love this place! Probably my new favorite halal food cart. I walked my lazy butt past another halal cart just outside the train station to get here. The lamb over rice here is seriously on point. And mmm, that hot sauce and white sauce. I have a love-hate relationship with that white sauce that drenches over the platter. It is so good and makes me so happy, yet I know it is just slowly turning me extra plump. In all seriousness though, this place is definitely worth checking out if you are around the area and looking for some cheap eats. Strange and somewhat of a pain that the prices are not listed on the menu though.

Clean, quick, friendly service. The LAMB platter is the absolute best, but the salmon is a very close runner up on Wednesdays and Fridays. «Extra Spicy» is perfect for me, but these guys aren’t playing around with the hot sauce. Be sure you ask for the level of spice you can handle. Right by the subway station, so always a temptation, haha. Thanks, you guys.

Over the years, I started to move away from the 53rd&6th cart and ventured to other carts. I’ve come to love the carts that serve platters with a lot more flavor and veggies. This one looked promising so we have tried it on a few occasions. It is very eye appealing, but they don’t put enough spiced so it’s kind of a boring platter. Sometimes they give you a lot of meat, sometimes they don’t. If you’re in the area and craving platters… This cart will sort of satiate your craving.

Sometimes you can’t get to Astoria or the city but you are craving some chicken and rice, the Sahara Halal food cart is a good substitute in the area. A nice size platter loaded with tender chicken, fluffy rice, crispy salad and of course topped with hot and white sauce. The flavors were really good and at a price of $ 6 it’s a great deal. I will definitely be back next time I don’t feel like venturing far from home.

This place is seriously awesome for a local Forest Hills location. Arslan is really sweet and kind and will engage you in genuine conversation. While on line, I asked a few people how this place was and they all responded«soooo gooood, that’s why we’re here on line». I waited 10 min for a fresh batch of lamb and boy was it worth it! Yes yes, 53rd and 6th, yes the lamb is better there, but the rice here is Mmm Mmm better! Yes, better than 53rd and 6th. So if you are in the area, give Sahara a try, you won’t regret it!

This is my go to place in Forest His when I do not want to cook and are looking for something quick to go. Their food is AMAZING! Their portions sizes are pretty big, so you get a lot for your money. I personally can never finish my whole plate no matter how hungry I am. I always do white sauce and hot sauce and feel like they ways get the ratio right according to how much meat and time they also put on. I’m always very happy when I come home and eat it. If you have a preference though, make sure to tell them when you are ordering, they are normal good at asking but just in case you like it a certain way. I still have not tried the gyro but it is on my list of things to try next. I’m slowly working my way though their menu and have loved very thing so far. Must try if you are in the neighborhood and craving halal!!!

$ 6 gets you a delicious container of heaven. We get the chicken, lamb or combo plates with yellow and red sauce. Excellent portion sizes — very good food. Great for a quick dinner or lunch on the go — convenient to the station.
