I’ve been here many times and have always had great experiences. Very cozy, warm and welcoming atmosphere, wonderful attentive service, perfect food. Favorite date night place for sure.

We are from San Francisco and found ourselves in Fort Edward looking for a nice spot for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled on the quaint Anvil Inn. Besides the history of the building the service and food was just as enjoyable. Going to try and get back for dinner before we head back west. Seems like a great spot for a memorable romantic dinner.

Very good food. Comfortable setting. Great service. Their specialty, I believe, is their cranberry bread pudding. Very yummy! Didn’t taste like cranberries or bread. It was great though!

What a find! Delicious(and reasonably priced) food with a friendly staff. Cute patio dining too. Great variety in the menu.

The only complaint i have is the inconsistency of the alcoholic drinks and there take on a few menu items. Boyfriend and I visited tonight as last Friday was amazing! Same bar tender made our martinis and this time 5 martinis out of the 6 we had gotten were downright horrible in taste and quality. I got a side of rice pilaf with my «cold» not warm, cold, prime rib and what I got was plain white rice that had carrots and celery in it. Never had it that way before but that’s not rice pilaf. I had bread pudding for dessert, I got what taste like a stick of melted butter and bread chunks with whip cream on top. Was missing the raisins and cinnamon flavor. On the other hand, the cranberry puffing was delicious! Boyfriend got the apple jax pork… To die for that is!!! I hope next visit will be consistent and better presented. Wait staff is delightful and ambiance is further than any expectation. Well maintained historic building. Just about the only thing I like about fort Edward.

Driving by the Anvil Inn you would never expect what awaits you upon walking through the front door — a real gem thats listed listed on the historical registry that features a wonderful fireplace and wooden floors and ceiling beams that oozes charm. Its interior is one of my favorites in the area and is certainly unique. In terms of the food, you really can’t go wrong as everything is done extremely well. My personal favorite is the Welsh Rabbit since few if any restaurants make it in Upstate New York.

I have always loved this place. This time not so much. They didn’t have prime rib on Tuesday night, so I ordered a NY Strip served with a very good baked potato, The salad was very wet which of course watered down the usually good blue cheese. My husband also ordered a steak and was not even offered a salad. They used to give you chicken liver pâté, no more. I was going to order some to take back to NJ but my steak wasn’t good nor was my husbands. I only go up there to visit relatives and I guess the Anvil Inn is not on my list of places to go anymore. I really liked it, what a shame.

Beautiful restaurant with amazing prime rib. The area’s best-kept secret. Spend a day touring Roger’s Island Museum and the Old Fort House and relax at the Anvils rustic, barnwood-sided bar. Or have a bite sitting in front of the stone fireplace. Try the Prime Rib Club, it will melt in your mouth.

This was one of the worst eating experiences ever! I gave it one star only because the bartender was outstanding. It took about 40 minutes for a table for four. Once seated it took forever for the waitress to come over. In the end she checked on us about three times in a three hour period. Yes, three hours! Drinks went I filled for at least thirty minutes. When food finally came out, the amount of Veges served was literally two tablespoons! My steak while cooked correctly had no flavor. Then, the AC unit began soaking our table drenching one if the dinners. We couldn’t even flag down the waitress who checked on all of the people she knew and never us. When I went to complain to the owner, she apologized but NEVER cane to the table to check on us and apologize. When we finally got the outrageously expensive bill that only took off one $ 26 dollar crappy, soaked steak, we had to take it to the cashier ourselves because the waitress again didn’t come back. When we again complained about the service, the OWNER dismissed us! If you want crappy local service who only provides good service to people they know. Neil and Lisa Orsini should be ashamed of themselves. Absolutely awful!

Had a very nice dinner here. The broiled scallops were cooked perfectly. The rice was nicely seasoned. Good service, except that the bread came out after the salad. My only«complaint» was too much dressing on the salad– need to remember to ask for it on the side next time.

So impressed with this place! Despite being in the middle of nowhere(sorry, Fort Edwardians), it serves food comparable to what you’d find at a good neighborhood restaurant in a large city — but with lower prices and friendlier service. The building is an old blacksmith’s shop, and the bar is clearly a local hangout. We sat in the dining room, where the crowd was a good mix of older couples, families with exceptionally well-behaved children, and pass-throughs like me and my Dad. He had a cheeseburger, which he loved; I had fantastic shrimp scampi over rice. Every full meal(i.e., not the burger) comes with a wonderful salad — the tomatoes were fresh and actually at room temperature(with nice cool, crispy lettuce)! Before that, each table gets crackers and a small cup of an addictively delicious pub-cheese spread. Carrot cake for dessert was a tad bit dry, but I would be excited to return in cooler weather and try the house special bread pudding. Definitely a place to return to!
