We stayed here at the Holiday Inn over a week while PCSING and it was a very pleasant stay. The family suites were big enough for us all to be comfortable and everything was clean. The breakfast was good and offered variety. The walls were soundproofed pretty well. The best aspect for us was the shuttle van which will take you or pick you up all over post at a call, invaluable when you are without a car. The staff was never less than polite and helpful.

The worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. The rooms are small, the sheets had blood on them, and the phone in the room didn’t work. We had to walk down to front desk and they gave us sheets for us to change ourselves. The front desk lady was not very apologetic about the situation. My family definitely not come here again!

I’m not sure why another users review wasn’t a recommended review, but we are experiencing the same issues. The front desk clerk was mean, they charged our card on file 308 $ without telling us. They gave less than helpful directions to the Paxon guest house. We had to call IHG4 times before the manager on duty would apologize for her rude customer service and dishonesty. The room is a converted old barrack. The bedding was clean and pressed. However the room itself is dusty and is causing havoc on my Allergies(even though I took 2 Allegra a day for the whole week), I still sneeze like crazy whenever the air conditioning comes on. The housekeeping staff is very pleasant, receptive and effective. The customer service, or lack there of, is enough to steer clear of this hotel. However, being the only hotel on base they do have a monopoly and it is convenient. If you have to stay, stay at the main hotel, not the guest house. Also, if your PCSing in, they will charge you up front. They won’t tell you but they do!

This review is about the old crappy motel style building with the dog kennels located next to the III Corps building. We were not allowed to stay at the fancy new holiday inn building by Darnall because there was 6 of us. I call BS now because I know bigger families that have stayed at that hotel, but back then I didn’t know any better. Since we were already going to be staying at the ratty motel, we decided to bring our dog with us instead of boarding her, that proved to be another headache. The lady at the front(more about her later) gave us some run around about the dog not being in the reservation and not registered with the vet on post. It was 2am on a weekend, any one who’s PCS’d knows about the 2am check in. I explained our situation and explained how impossible her requests were but she could care less. So finally I ended up putting our dog in one of the empty kennels at the hotel and pad locking it for the night. It went on this way for the two weeks we were stuck there. Now comes the fun part, time to check out. And who should be at the counter but our same unintelligent, could-care-less, wonderful clerk. I proceeded to check out and let her know I need to pay for the dog. But before I could do anything I had to stand at the desk and wait until she could pry herself away from the gospel concert she was watching on a portable DVD player. I understand the night shift can be less than exciting, but come on, there is a customer standing in front of you that probably has better things to do with his time than stand there and listen to Kirk Franklin or whoever is popular with the kids now days. She definitely had an I don’t give a fudge attitude and I was her first victim of the night. So after some entertaining moments she finally acknowledged me(without ever looking up) and demanded to know why I’m there, I know a man with his bags turning over room keys can be a bit strange looking, but I was able to paint the picture for her. As I got ready for my bill I explained that I needed to also pay for my dogs kennel stay, she said there is nothing about a dog in the paperwork and so I proceeded to explain again. She told me that I would have to talk to a manager and I won’t be able to check out until then. At this point I had a car full of kids and a 150lbs English Mastiff destroying my car seats, I explained the whole situation to her one last time, including my initial attempt to reserve the kennel, her boarding, our attempt to call the counter many times and resolve the situation, and yet nothing, not even a hint of understanding, or maybe it’s a lack of caring and more of an annoyance for missing some of her gospel concert. Finally I said never mind, the dog was boarded and never stayed in the kennel, just give me my receipt and I’ll be on my merry way. Surprisingly she agreed! So I might have had to stay in cramped smelly quarters but I got to board my dog for free! Trust me I would have rather paid for the dog and done everything on the up and up, but I only have a limited amount of patience for customer service workers that have no interest in serving the customer. What can I really say about an institution that conducts business on an Army post? I have had nothing but bad experiences with every one of them. The workers think they are drill sergeants and don’t feel the soldiers have a voice or any rights. In their eyes we are all grunts who only live to take a beating and keep rucking on. They are bitter and mean and their customer service skills are deplorable. They are usually ex-military or spouses, or just civilians from the nearby cities, but none of that is an excuse for treating soldiers/customers like crap. They know that no one will speak up because there will always be a higher ranking NCO to step in and reprimand the lower ranking soldier for causing trouble. It’s not like a situation off post where you can complain and the manager fixes the employees attitude, on post YOU are the one with the problem and the attitude and it is YOU who will suffer the consequences, trust me, I’ve seen it happen, and believe me when I say that once a SFC approaches a specialist at a food court line, it will never end well. We like to say, and I like to think that we as military have the best of brotherhoods, we protect each other and always have our backs, but when it comes to saving face in front of the civilian public, there is no love lost, you will always be the first to blame and the first to go down. It’s like when you were a kid and it always seemed like your parents treated your friends or even strangers kids better than you. They love you of course, but when another kid wants a turn on the swings, you better get your butt off. I guess I got a bit away from my original topic, the long and short is this, mediocre rooms, nice cleaning staff, horrible, terrible, deplorable front desk night clerk. This is nothing new with IHG, the name is synonymous with terrible clerks and accommodations. Beware!

This one is for the main building on post. Large and bright facility with genial service from the front desk. My room was modern and clean with a flat screen TV, Bath & Bodyworks soaps, and really fast free internet.(I swear the internet was faster than what I get at home!) I think my bathroom had some funky electrical issues since my bathroom light was finicky and I couldn’t get the hair dryer to turn on. Other than that, I was satisfied with the room. It’s smoke-free, so you won’t smell anything that would make you wrinkle your nose. The walls/doors are thin, so you can hear your neighbor’s TV or any one that is moving around in the hallway. There’s a microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge in the Standard room. All day, there’s free hot coffee/hot water/tea in the lobby as well as a Snack Station/Forgotten Amenities Station where you pay for the items at the front desk. Complimentary Continental breakfast in the morning, too! Ample Parking. I give this 4 stars despite my electrical issue because I’m used to awful military hotels, so it’s nice to see this has been absorbed into the IHG chain and privatized. Really comfortable, much better than the sad, dingy suites on the other end of post that just seem like old barracks modified with modern amenities. Stay with the main building if you can!
