Sun Pass Ranch was the absolute perfect place to stay after a long road trip to Crater Lake. There really aren’t many options to be found online if you want to stay around the National Park, especially if you’re coming from the north, which is just one of the many reasons I was so excited to find this B & B. Sun Pass Ranch is a short distance from the south entrance of the park, just basically down the mountain into the beautiful farm fields of Fort Klamath. Their website says 23 miles, but it was quite fast and there’s plenty to look at. We spent three days in the park and two nights at the ranch. Patty couldn’t have been more relaxed or hospitable. She made wonderful, hearty meals each morning before we set off to hike around Crater Lake each day. They have many extra amenities for guests, like a small refrigerator stocked with beverages, fire pit, movies to watch, etc. Patty even offered to take us kayaking down the river by their house and drop us off up stream so we could paddle around. Again, she was just so nice and wanted us to be happy & comfortable. The rooms are great too– very clean and spacious. Nice towels, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. It was perfect for my family of four to be able to relax here at night while we explored the area during the day. They also have two adorable dogs who love to play and are very well behaved– Thanks Patty!

The Sun Pass Ranch-Totally chill, very comfortable, serene, clean as can be, with gorgeous views. The owner Patricia-Totally chill, great cook, generous as all get out, helpful, you name it-she’s got it covered for your stay. The dogs-Totally chill AND they’re Jack Russell’s, adorable, fun to play with, watch, or just ignore, they roll with it. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in the area. If I’m ever back there, I’m going back there. Thanks Patricia!

Fantastic place to stay! We were in town for a family reunion and my uncle got us set with a room at Sun Pass. Unfortunately Patty and Mike were also on vacation, but Wasika took great care of us. The rooms were comfy and I was happy for the individual heat control because the weekend we were there it was very cold. The breakfast was excellent and the price very, very reasonable. For the Crater Lake room we paid $ 270 for the whole weekend(three of us) including taxes. If you are headed to Crater Lake this is a great place to stay and help support the small town of Ft. Klamath!

Patty and Michael are great hosts and take good care of you. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. And they will adjust your breakfast requirements to your needs. Rooms were clean and comfortable. All of your needs are taken care of. This is a real ranch with cattle grazing out in the pasture and horses in the corral. They are about 20 miles from Crater Lake. Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day at the ranch. Their dogs, Sadie and Spot, were so much fun and very friendly. It was very quiet at night, although we did hear coyotes one night. No city sounds, only sounds of nature. We highly recommend this place and will stay there again if we are ever in the area.

We stayed here recently on a trip to Crater Lake. The setting is gorgeous and relaxing. Patty and Michael are excellent hosts, and were very helpful in showing us how to find our way around the area. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, breakfast was great. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would definitely stay again.

A nice home away from home… Our family of 3 went on a road trip from San Jose to Oregon to visit Crater Lake last week. We stayed with Patty and Mike at their Sun Pass Ranch for 2 nights and couldn’t be happier. Upon our arrival, Patty offered us water/soda/beer to quench our thirst. Our room was comfortable with a private bath, a queen bed and a twin bed just for my little girl. At night, we stargazed outdoor by the fire that Mike had prepared. In the morning, Patty cooked up yummy pancakes with sausages and eggs to get us going. We felt welcomed through out our stay and would definitely go back! Highly recommended!

The Sun Pass Ranch is a great place to stay, just about as close to Crater Lake as you can get(24 miles south of the South Entrance on Highway 62). Patty & Will are pleasant hosts who serve excellent family-style breakfasts. You are welcomed in as one of the family, and Jack Russell terrier Sadie will expect you to chuck the ball until your arm wears out. I suspect that if you had horses, this would be even more of a dream vacation spot, as their own horses looked well-fed and happy. The arena and barn are in good shape. Both hosts are knowledgable about horse care, training, and best places to ride in the area. Crater Lake itself is one of the seldom visited gems of the National Park Service. Summertime offers the opportunity to drive around the rim road(usually July through Sept), but it also looks beautiful in winter. Plowed access is maintained up to the crater edge from the South entrance most of the year, allowing for cross-country ski access. Check out the park website for details: The only caveats I had about staying here were that the Google Map was incorrect and the only directions I received were«go look at the Google map». There is a «horse hotel» sign visible if you arrive at night, but no street number. Also, we would have slept better if a king size bed were available(but most people will find the comfy queens just fine). It is still definitely two thumbs up!
