Don’t know why you would have problems with these people. Their cupcakes were superb and they were always friendly to me. I am very sad to see them go. BTW, in this economy it was most certainly cupcakes that closed the place. I am hard pressed to believe that would generate enough cash flow to maintain a store front on Los Olas Blvd. However, I do miss them.

I too went by the location on Las Olas Blvd only to find they had shut their doors. So sad. What I did find out was that they had moved their facility to South Beach and are now shipping nation wide! So, apparently they are still in business, just in a different location. Thank god!

Hmmmmm… How do you review a place that has already gone out of business? I have heard numerous praises on the cupcakes… and numerous complaints about the obnoxious owner. I suppose it boils down to the fact you need both a good product and good customer service. Lesson to be learned about how to treat customers…

A brilliant Unilocaler called me to let me know Lola’s is no longer there. It’s true. They didn’t close because of the cupcakes, I guarantee that.

Got on the Can AM Spyder and rode to las olas for some Cupcakes and to follow-up on Bernardo A.‘s comment. On this adventure: I got to meet«the owners» Don and Laura Kaplan, and we conversed about the incident and the fantastic cupcakes. Laura, a chef graduate of the C.I.A. in NYC, has the pedigree to produce sweet culinary creations. Bernie I just want to apologize for them. They are very down to earth, unpretentious and kind people. I think we all have had our share of bad days. The philanthropic side of Lolas cupckaery, i discovered was that the end of the day. The cupcakes go to the homeless shelters foodbanks and to designated schools… How cool is that, your down and out in a shelter and you get a morale boost with a strawberry or red velvet cupcake. As of this writing. Laura had just introduced to delectable creations. The salted caramel and the smores. See my pics on the six sampler. I added 4 more: the Boston crème, cookies and cream. key lime, vanilla bean, key lime pie. I placed the sampler box in the boot of my spyder, and headed home on A1A, a true test for the resiliency of lauras butter cream frosting. I got home measured the temps inside and it was a warm 110. The frosting just started to melt but held up well, considering i had rode 12 miles in the hottest part of the day in stop and go traffic. When i bit into the salted caramel, the frosting was brilliant. the center was a crème caramel center, and the cake was moist and just right. I waited 2 minutes, and had the Boston crème with the dark chocolate gnash frosting, and the vanilla crème center. So much for my p90x workout!

I stopped by Lola’s this friday. The shop is a little difficult to find but boy was I happy when I found it. It’s a cute little shop and yes it is bare at the moment but the store is brand new and Lola said they would be getting tables and chairs soon. I got a six pack of Coconut Maaroon, Praline, French Chocolate, Boston Crème and Peanut Butter Chocolate. The cupcakes were amazing. I may not have gone to Pastry school but I know a great cupcake when I taste one.

Maybe I just went on a bad day, but Lola’s cupcakes were horrible. First of all, to make it more inviting, I’d suggest tables and chairs to fill up the huge empty space of the place. It was dark and stale inside. Speaking of stale, so were the cupcakes. We got a variety, including coconut macaroon, mint chocolate, red velvet, boston crème, and peanut butter/chocolate. I went to pastry school, but I’m not a practicing pastry chef, but I still know a good cupcake when I taste one, and I’m sorry, but these were horrible. For $ 3.50 a pop, they’d better be good, and they weren’t. The piled-on, too sweet/artificial tasting frosting could not mask the bland and dry cupcake base. Honestly, the cupcakes from Publix are better and a heck of a lot cheaper. I hate seeing gimmick shops like this touted to the masses as though this is what pastries are supposed to taste like. I will never visit Lola again!

It’s not that I’m a HUGE fan of cupcakes– I just love the idea of them, the look of them, their size and shape and festiveness. But Lola’s has brought my cupcake affinity to a new level. Hands down — the best tasting flippin’ cupcakes I’ve ever had. And I’ve been around the cupcake block. The assortment of unique flavors — deeeevine. I had the red velvet and key lime and tasted a Pralines and Cream — and when my friend wasn’t looking– I snagged a lick of his chocolate rocky roady extravaganza, too. I just wish they were a tad bigger in size for the price(about 4 bucks a pop) — or a tad less expensive for their size. Just as well — if they were more affordable– I’d move in and double in size, myself! Perfect little place to bring some kids for a super special little treat — kids of ALL ages, that is. Hey Lola — get a French Press coffee maker and some fine tea. I’ll move in for sure!
