Sheaffer Pen

Like so many others, I too was given a handsome White Dot Shaeffer pen set as a gift from my foks upon graduation from high school. I still have it and it still works like a charm.
I think it is sad that BIC, which baught Shaeffer Pen Co, decided to close down the Ft. Madison opperation. Now I never see Shaeffer Pens for sale. I was proud when I went to Chicago once back in the 1980s I was at Marshall Fields on State Street and saw they had a whole counter of Shaeffer Pen products. I felt — wow, this Fort Madison produced product is here at a major upscale store in the heart of Chicago!
Shaeffer made a very quality product. They made specialty writing instruments too like high end Calligraphy pens directed at Art Professionals and students.
Shaeffer was a major employer in the area for many years. various family members worked there over the years.

Every graduating high school senior at Fort Madison High School used to receive a Sheaffer Pen set. I still have mine.
When I lived in Dublin Ireland there was a shop with a corner window that displayed Sheaffer Pens — the ones with the white dots. I could never get too homesick knowing that I could be just about anywhere in the world and yet any place that sells high-​end pens had a tangible connection to my hometown.
