When I’m on the east coast I never eat subs so I don’t know if the east coast part of the name of this chain reflects authenticity or a desire for a long memorable name but what I can tell you is that I make it a point to get a Chicken Parm here once a year when I’m back home again in Indiana. + Fresh cut fries. Like from a potato. With a smasher. I used to be a prep cook and let me tell you it is an arm muscle workout to smash bags of potatoes into fries. Appreciate the labor. + Size options on the sandwiches. + Perfectly toasted bread with melted cheese and your topping selects served open faced. Fold if you wish! + Brought to your table by a staff member. + They’re nice and not surly. + Monthly special. I like the idea of saving a little by getting the combo with the special but I never stray from the Chicken Parm. Which brings me to… — Pricey. I get small everything and my cost is $ 10 which means even if I lived or worked in this neighborhood, I could only come here occasionally. Some kind of combo pricing would be nice. — There is always one questionable bite of chicken in my sandwich that reminds me I’m eating meat that has had some processing. Whether it’s gristle or what have you, it’s an appetite suppressant/deal breaker — The TVs. My god they aren’t necessary in a fast food place so if you’re going to have them at least make them large enough to see! Penn Station East Coast subs are all over Indiana so make it a point to try it for yourself!

For about 2 years, the Penn Station Chicken Cordon Bleu was my favorite meal. I would get off work, stop right by this location and get a 12-inch to split in half and eat the other half later, with a side of fries, and occasionally a lemonade. However in the past few months, something was prepared differently or changed in the Cordon Bleu’s recipe, as my repeated tries have left me tasting something overpowering like smoked paprika, and the fries have felt much more limp and very dark, almost singed. I no longer visit Penn Station because of it. I can’t quite place my finger on it, but so much of what made the sandwich great(even the bread) seems to have changed for the worse.

I have visited this location countless times since it was opened, and one aspect stands out — consistent high quality and friendly service. I often see new patrons puzzled as to what to order, and the staff is eager to recommend. Their fresh cut and prepared for you fries are excellent. Similar to those at Five Guys, but definitely better in quality and lower in grease content –and crispier. I lead toward the monthly special as even if it’s not what seems to appeal to you, or sound good — guaranteed it IS good! Still can’t beat the Philly Cheese-steak, although the Pizza sub was a pleasant surprise some time back. Subs are served«open face» and can be a hand-full once you fold them over to eat — don’t say you weren’t warned. If you are a lemonade drinker, yes it really IS fresh and hand squeezed. I thought that was hype until I saw an employee manually squeezing lemons in a press at one visit. When I have a taste for Penn Station, I literally drive past 3 other sub shops — all good in their own away… but none have their excellent fries. This location is really hidden, and the address is misleading as it’s basically on Illinois Rd in the same complex as Target.

I keep coming back for there fries. Reminds me of a hot dog joint back home that serves these fresh fries on hot dogs. The 1st time I walked in here I didn’t know that to order and they recommended the Philly cheese steak, I guess everyone likes that sandwich. But I’m kind of a rebel so I went with the Italian instead. Boy oh boy, that was delicious. I’ve also had the chicken cordon which was good too.
