Four Lakes seems like quite a small city in general and this historical marker in a way seems like a bit of an oddity. It is well placed in a calmly serene & very clean grassy prairie type area. It is well kept and probably for good measure. It was the site of a rather grisly war between a mass of native indian resistance soldiers and the well armed servicemen of the US Army during the Yakima War. If you read the history of the war, it hardly seemed like a war at all as the natives were hardly a match for the army men with their newly developed firepower. They were above to keep the natives at bay from afar without hardly any hand to hand combat. There may not have been any hand to hand combat at all from the information I could fine. At the end of the day zero army men lost their lives. The natives… weren’t so lucky. You can read more about the site here: It’s certainly worth a stop since there really isn’t much else to see in this town and if your one into checking off your historical markers, then you can certainly check this huge stone off the list.
