My go to spot! I’m not into BBQ, but this place has the best short ribs and teriyaki. By far my favorite thing on the menu aside from the burgers which I usually wouldn’t get a burger from a BBQ spot, but for the price you pay you get a great portion of what your paying for and a side of your choice. They even have specials on Tuesday for TACOS which are awesome. Fish and Pork are a must eat. Wish they had beer on tap that would top it off! :)

I cannot believe the good reviews of this place. Honestly, I should have turned around when I felt my feet sticking to the dirty floor. After I made the long trek to the counter(it seems really long on a sticky floor) the person behind the counter appeared to be extremely disinterested in taking my order; I had to ask her if she could help me. I really wanted to try the saimen – one of the dishes I really miss from Hawaii. I got take out, and live only a couple of minutes away. I ate my food as soon as I got home and the soup was barely lukewarm. Besides that, it just wasn’t great – basically noodles and broth without a good flavor. The barbecue chicken was fatty, and I’ve had much better Hawaiian Teriyaki sauce. Overall negative experience. At least I can say that I’ve tried it, but I have no desire to go back.

Ug. Best part of the meal was the Pepsi. This is fast food and the quality is that if fast food. Based on other reviews, we were expecting much better.

This was our first visit to the Hawaiian restaurant but holy moly, it’s amazing! I will be coming over on a weekly basis for sure! The food is sooo delicious. I’m just bummed that I didn’t discover this place sooner. The people are really friendly and the food is so tasty and cheap. All this time, this gem was sitting directly across from my apartment complex! I guess it gets overlooked because the restaurant is tucked away among the other businesses and I don’t have Hawaiian on my everyday menu of things I must eat. However, now that I know what Hawaiian food is, I will be here quite often. For one thing, they have juicy, Korean short ribs and lots of rice. That’s enough reason for me to be here all the time. I can’t wait to bring my family and friends here.

After having a rough start on our first visit in getting something that was not gluten free, I stopped by when I was in town yesterday. I met the owner, Fred, who was aware of the issue last time. He made the garlic shrimp the way it was supposed to be, gluten free. I also got an order of the Bulgogi Fries, as my sister said they were great! I ate the fries there and they were delicious. Hot crinkle fries with tender bulgogi and some spicy sauces over the top and cheese! Once I stopped eating them, they heat hit me, but I like spice. Very filling for one person if eating as a meal, but would make a good appetizer. The garlic shrimp usually comes with Mac salad, but they gave me double rice and it was also very good. Not done the way they do in Hawaii, but still very tasty. If you have to eat gluten free, please ask for the manager or owner, as the workers don’t know what gluten is, which led to the problem the first time. They will be happy to help you. The soy sauces they use are not gluten free, so be aware of that. Hope they open one up closer to me! I have to drive an hour now, so can’t get there very often!

Service and Food was great. If you love BBQ, you’ll love the island flavors. The BBQ chicken is on point. Definitely coming back to fill my belly!

I tried the grilled BBQ kalbi short rib plate. This came with short ribs, a choice of white or brown rice and macaroni salad. The short rib was good just surrounded with fat. There was way more fat than meat and it was very hard to remove the meat. I ordered the brown rice which was good, it had cabbage in it. The macaroni salad was pretty good just a lil heavy with the mayo. It was a good portion size, but I wouldn’t try it again. My fiancé’ ordered the curry chicken katsu with white rice and macaroni salad. The chicken was fried it was super crispy with some mix of white and dark meat. The curry sauce didn’t really compliment the chicken. It was a good portion size, but wouldn’t try it again either. Overall the restaurant is cute, the cashier was a little weird she seemed irritated that we were there or something. I wasn’t impressed with this place at all. I think next time I would try a different dish.

Different than your usual joint, but good food and fair prices. The«bowls» are a good size of food and have great taste. I really like their pineapple fried rice in the bowls as well! Give it a shot!

When my husband and I were at Tupelo Honey Café for their soft opening, I noticed a new-to-me restaurant nearby… L&L Hawaiian Grill. Um, what?! Apparently it opened this summer, and I had no idea that I could get Spam musubi within the state of Tennessee, let alone down the street from where I work! You see, I have had family living in Hawaii for decades now, and I’ve been there a half dozen times, mostly as a kid to see my cousin. And as a result, Hawaiian style food like Spam musubi is comfort food to me! Not to mention, they serve my favorite Korean food, kalbi ribs! I went whole hog for lunch, ordering a Spam musubi and the ribs platter. The spam musubi was excellent. It had less teriyaki sauce than the ones I’ve had in Hawaiian gas stations(true story), but still reminded me of the ones my Mom makes. I would also love to have their Spam and rice sometime for lunch too! The kalbi ribs platter comes with rice and macaroni salad, but I just wanted rice instead. The meal was $ 10.99, and it came with two strips of ribs. For that price, I would have expected about three strips vs. two, but then again it was a healthy size meal overall.(I think I’m spoiled by the portions in LA and NYC on this kind of thing.) The taste was great, and I really felt like I was getting a delicious Korean/Hawaiian comfort food meal for lunch! I KNOW I’ll be back to L&L. Like I said, it’s the only place in Franklin(that I know of) where I can get my favorite ribs, and the only place I know of in Nashville where I can get my Spam fix. I hope it sticks around!

Food was amazing and flavorful. This is my first time trying Hawaiian and I’m addicted! I got the combo bbq platter and it had tons of meat so this is definitely a sharing plate. I will definitely be back.

This is the first time we’ve tried a Hawaiian restaurant, but we like a lot of Asian foods, so based on the menu, we had an idea of what to expect. I got a combo platter of the beef, ribs, and chicken, and it was very good. My wife got the garlic chicken, and she also enjoyed it. My 11 year old debated between the Katsu chicken and a burger, and went with the burger. But as a nice surprise, the staff later brought out a sample of the Katsu Chicken, which my daughter gave a 9 out of 10. I tried it and liked it too. We met a gentleman who had lived in Hawaii in the restaurant and he had driven all the way from Hendersonville to eat here. He really enjoyed it and apparently put in a second order to go. He was very pleased to have L&L in the area. Another nice touch was the individual sized kimchi available in the cooler at the front. I ate mine by itself before our meals arrived. It was quite good. Only things that weren’t great: macaroni salad was pretty bland — tasted like just noodles and mayo. Styrofoam boxes for every order, including dine-in seemed very wasteful. Simple paper plates would be better. Overall, a very good experience. It’ll probably become a regular lunch spot for me and an occasional dinner spot for the family.

I discovered L&L on a trip to Maui a few years ago and had some great food there. I was excited to hear about one opening here in Middle Tennessee. I wish it was closer to me but if I hurry, I can make it there for lunch from my office. All my Hawaiian favorites are here — the Kalua pork and cabbage plate is the best. Mac salad, pineapple fried rice, katsu chicken, malasadas! I have not been fortunate enough to get any ahi poke yet but hoping to try it soon. L&L is a great addition to the food scene here, I hope they do well and open one a little closer to Nashville so I can go more often.

After reading one stellar review after another on Unilocal,I was compelled to visit and partake. This first visit was take out. Fish tacos, Kalua pork, kalbi(Korean styled grilled cross cut ribs), spam noodle soup(saimin), bulgogi fries, Big Kahuna burger. The concept is fun and interesting. Approachable Asian fusion comfort food with few rules and lots of promised fun. The result is excessive salt. Wow. Took the hair off my tongue. It’s still raw hours later. I had to quit after 4 – 5 bites. The soup sent me over the edge. A thin, salty brine. Not a whole lot of flavor. Noodles were meh. Kind of flat tasting. The Kalua pork was moist and tasty. Well executed, but again, the salt was overwhelming. The kalbi was proficient. I prefer Hai Woon Dai’s stand out garlicky, lightly charred kalbi but L&L is 40 mins closer and that makes it almost as good. The bulgogi fries were not bad and surprisingly not overly salty. The bulgogi meat was overcooked and dry. The flavor was pretty good bulgogi flavored meat. Crazy Hawaiian poutine is how my son described it. Accurate. A surprisingly tasty item was the salsa that came with the fish tacos. Fresh and piquant. The«tortilla» chips did not taste like corn chips. They were a low point. But hey it’s a side. The fish tacos were quite good, reported my number one son– the fish taco snob. I think we’d order that again. Simple. Flavorful. Soft white flour tortillas. The Big Kahuna Burger. How do I say this? If you want more meat than taste, this is your burger. My carnivorous second son lost interest about half way through. he said that I cook better burgers. «Hey!» I said. «I resemble that remark.» So I think I make a decent burger but he loves tasting burgers everywhere and has become pretty demanding and the Big Kahuna didn’t cut it. Overall: I’m a bit saddened by the crazy saltiness but I was heartened to see little plastic cups of kimchi in the refrigerator case at the cashier stand at L&L. I’m in Franklin TN for fook’s sake. Pinch me. Kimchi right out there saying hello to guests is awesome enough to get me back here and try other items but imma let them get their legs under them before I go back too soon.

*OWNER, PLEASEREAD* First of all, I want to say that it is absolutely shameful the amount of non recyclable waste this place puts out. I simply can’t believe that they serve absolutely everyone, dine-in, take out, whatever, in giant styrofoam containers. PLEASE, PLEASECHANGETHIS. Call me a tree hugger or whatever you want, I am a Bay Area guy and I did move from Boulder, CO, but my goodness I can’t even fathom how much excess waste you are creating with these. 12 of those things have to fill up a garbage can. Aside from that rant, the food is pretty dang good and I’m excited to be able to find loco moco on a menu. I personally like mine better, but it dirties almost every dish I have to make it.

First off, the staff were very friendly and patient with us as we were trying to decide on what to order with it being our first time there. They made a few suggestions, and let me tell you. They were all delicious! The bulgogi fries were probably my favorite, I could’ve had that as just my entrée. Another dish that didn’t disappoint was the chicken Katsu curry. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it all. My boyfriend went back a couple days later to pick up some food to take to his mom, and she loved it, and she’s normally a picky eater when it comes to outside food. This is definitely a place I’ll be frequenting!

I don’t do reviews… until now. :-) Having left Maui(no ka oi baby!) to da mainland nearly 30 years ago I have finally a taste of the islands to go to. Saimin, manapua, lau lau, chicken katsu, musubi, local style mac salad, etc. And, where else will you get Aloha Shoyu? Dis is the real deal!

Being a California native, I miss L&L but got a chance to try this location during its opening weekend. I had the BBQ mixed plate and spam musubi. The quality of the food was excellent as there was good flavor and good portion size. Within the meat portion, it’s probably majority chicken and 1 strip of beef. The mac salad felt very authentic and it reminded me why I love this place but wish it were just slightly larger. The spam musubi was a good portion size.
