I’ve eaten here a few times, and I’ve got to say that the food here at this establishment reminds me of my hometown in Brooklyn. Depending on my mood, I would usually get the BLT, XB-AC sandwich or the ovengold roasted turkey breast sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and mayo. Sometimes, I order a small cup of cole slaw or I just pick up a bag of chips and a drink. I’ve read a few reviews from the Unilocalers that said the manager’s from NY, and I’m really glad that he brought NYC to Frederick. I’m tired of eating sandwiches from Subway, never mind that Subway tries to make their sandwiches look like hero sandwiches from NYC. Other than that, this place is really good, especially if you’re feeling homesick and can’t find a place that makes a mean NYC sandwich.

The Owner is amazing, I called in with 4 orders arrived with an additional 4 orders all paying separate! He was accommodating patient nice food was delicious as usual but the owner went above and beyond assisting me with my MANY order! Also SHRIMPSALAD is to die for a must every time I go i get it.

Incredible Tuscany Chicken Melt. And that’s just one of at least a dozen different pre-selected sandwich combinations, or you can pick your own meats, cheese, vegetables and condiments for a custom sandwich. I know it’s a deli, but I’d like it to be a bit more friendly in terms of dining in. There are no plates, trays, cups, or anything. You get a sandwich wrapped up in butcher’s paper and that’s it. If you’d like a drink, it’s going to come from a can or bottle from the refrigerator. A small bag of chips are your standard side for a price. You can buy various kinds of macaroni salads, but there aren’t many options in terms of fresh side dishes. It’s very grab-and-go. And sometimes that’s nice. But I wish they would put in a bit more effort to make it a comfortable dine in experience as well. But the sandwich I had was so good, that I’ll definitely be back anyway. So overall, it’s a 4⁄5.

The sandwiches are great, a little pricey, but really delicious. I honestly avoid going most of the time, and choose to spend money elsewhere, because the owner always is a grump and appears to be in a bad mood. I don’t like to feel like I’m annoying you when I order a sandwich, and it actually bums me out when I say«please» and«thank you» and there are NO manners from the guy taking my order. I guess that could be part of the«New York charm,» but I’d rather go across the street where I know people are going to be friendly.

Sadly, the update is that the very nice and pleasant response from the owner appears to only have been for show. He is still very uncustomer-service oriented and I am not alone in my line of thinking. Observing others in the store, it would appear that there is a small handful of clientele who receive smiles/warm greetings but the vast majority are not given any incentive to make them want to return. :-(

Attempting to be a good NY deli in Frederick is a tall order. Crabapples thankfully delivers. Their liverwurst on rye is da bomb!!! Friendly staff, great owner. Nice location and décor. Reminds me of my visits with my daughter in NYC. Just without my daughter! :(.

I moved from New York to Frederick in 2002 and I can honestly say, Crabapples brings back such great memories of NY Deli’s and I have been going there now for 13 years! They really do have the greatest subs in Frederick as well as their prepared salads are great. I love the cajun turkey and bean salad. A must try!

Historic corner building, original wood floors, good A/C, comfortable seating, very friendly, excellent Deli sandwiches, fresh side salads, fruit, baked items and cold drinks. When I asked, they told me that the most popular sandwiches are the Italian sub, the chicken club and the no-name chicken sandwich. We had two out of three– of good quality ingredients.

I go here all the time but am just getting around to writing my review. This place is so great. I love the New York style attitude that you get from the guy behind the counter. My favorite sandwich is the French Quarters on a croissant served hot. But in the mornings I get a sausage egg and cheese also served on a croissant. It’s hard to find fresh cracked eggs like this on a breakfast sandwich these days. Not to mentioned good coffee that isn’t $ 5 a cup. I like the coffee here cause good and inexpensive. Last thing I’ll say is if you haven’t tried the Shrimp Salad it is a must. I don’t usually like cold salads like that either but you gotta try it!

After walking around shopping we decided to try crabapple since the sign said«voted #1 deli in Frederick.» I guess the voting age is no where it should be. I got the Italian with«da works» and my partner got the pastrami. Both said on crispy hero rolls. My Italian sub with da works was very lacking. A couple pieces of meat, cheese with plenty of onion and a little hots. Crispy hero was a soft roll like you’d get from a grocery package. My partner said the flavor of his pastrami was very good, however his crispy hero was like mine limp as can be. I was more than disappointed, him a notch better. Two bottle drinks, two chips and two subs, $ 22 and some change. Won’t be back there.

This deli gets a one star from me. They call them selves New York deli, will in my opinion go back to New York. Frederick is such a nice town filled with nice people. The owner is more than extremely rude, the others working there seem utterly miserable and the food for the most part sucks. Don’t waste your time supporting this place.

Love this place. Would have given a five star review but felt like the seating wasn’t very inviting. It’s like walking into a local country market. The food is awesome, just like home.

VERY sub par. The bagel I ordered was completely stale. The staff seemed surly and unhappy.

DELICIOUSTOWN!!! I regularly go out of my way to stop by this deli! My go-tos: Tuscany Chicken Club, French Quarter, side of Shrimp Salad. My husband has insisted for years that he didn’t like cold salads and I insisted that he tried the Shrimp, he is hooked! Awesome side dish to grab on the way over to a friends house! The tuna salad comes to a close 2nd! One other thing to take note of is the egg sandwiches! I don’t think people always know that these are available but they serve them until 1030. Made fresh– none of that microwaved egg crap! You want an egg over easy? Medium? Scrambled? Egg whites? I suggest the taylor ham and on a hard roll. You will NOT be disappointed! YUMMY!

The sandwiches are okay, they have«dirty» brand chips, which I like. Their customer service is fast, but completely UNfriendly. anytime I have been missing an item out of my order, they are unpleasant and act like it is my fault. They barely smile, and it is not just one person that acts this way. Many of the locals that I know feel the same. Bad customer service.

Now we were traveling back home from NYC. We stopped into Baltimore to meet our son for lunch. After something when wrong with our first choice The Lunch Box we decided on Crabapples Deli. We all ordered sandwiches. The son and I ordered the Italian, the wife had the Mancuso or roast beef. Now the sandwiches were pretty good but nothing to write home about. Everything was fresh but I like the leave parts of romaine lettuce not the stalk parts. The meat was folded and not layed out thus making it look like a lot more then there really is. The sandwiches also were alittle on the small side but my diet liked it. So the next time your in court or the police station stop into Crabapple’s for a Hero.

I see a lot of bad reviews on here, but I love this place!!! It fills a niche in Frederick, and the service is very quick and pleasant. From what I’ve tried, the sandwiches are always good. The sides have been hit or miss for me, that’s why 4 stars. Love the pickle. Overall this is a great little spot where you can grab a Boar’s Head sandwich and more to go!

Seriously, Frederick, if this is your«Best Of», I totally understand why people call you Fredneck. Crabapples is as close to a proper deli as Carl Sagan is to being an evangelical Christian. I ordered one of their signature sandwiches, the Manusco. Roast beef, lettuce, tomato, provolone and pesto mayo on a hero roll. It should not be so easy to make this into the travesty it was. First, the lettuce was yellow and bitter. Second, the beef was so well done that it may have been a cowboy boot in a previous life. Third, no WAY was this roll fresh. The bottom half was dry and brittle as one might expect when a bread bag is left open for a couple days. The tomato was mushy and soggy, but instead of adding moisture to the sanwich, added a texture reminiscent of sand. Mayo? What mayo? Had it not been for the grease stain on the paper, there would be no evidence of mayo. For all those who are giving this place high ratings, PLEASE go to DC, Baltimore or NYC and learn what a real deli’s food should be like. I will never, ever, ever return to this joke of a sanwich joint.

I almost skipped trying Crabapples due to the previous reviews, but I’m glad I didn’t and so I thought I should share my experience. I picked up an Italian hero, small NY potato salad, and large mac n cheese to take home. The staff was friendly. The sandwich was huge! I disagree with the reviews complaining about the prices. My total was $ 10 and change after taxes. The sandwich and salad is enough for two meals, so take off $ 2 for the mac n cheese(which I got to try separately and is enough for a meal in itself) and that’s $ 4 for a meal. That’s less than just a sandwich at the chain places. The sandwich was very bready, as others mentioned, but it had enough meat to equal out the bread. I just wish the meat was layered better rather than folded so most of it was on one side. I liked the Italian dressing, and they put just enough on to taste but not so much that the bread was soggy by the time I got home, unlike most places. The NY potato salad and mac and cheese were both good. My only issue, and the reason for three stars instead of four, was the packaging. As soon as I took my sandwich out of the bag, the pickle which was loosely wrapped with it fell out onto the floor. Both the cold sandwich and salad and hot mac n cheese were placed in one bag, so that affected the temperature of all items. I certainly could’ve asked for separate bags but didn’t think of it, as I’ve gotten used to many places doing this routinely. All in all, I’d recommend Crabapples as a good place for lunch. Try their sides instead of chips you can get anywhere, and you’ll feel as if you’re getting more value for your money. Just watch out for your pickle! :)
