This 5& Dime takes me back every time I walk through the front doors. The old wood floors creek as you walk… and the layout — I love the layout — it hasn’t changed a bit I don’t think since 1981. Back then I could go in with $ 1 and come out with a big handful of candies and gum… pure, wonderful, nostalgic joy.

Oh, the good old days of a 5& Dime when things really did cost 5 or 10 cents! Dooley’s offers a variety of items you might have found at the 5−10s, but of course inflation has taken effect. There is still a sense of nostalgia and there are both classic and new things to look at, play with, an maybe buy(the most adorable pink cowboys hats with tiaras on the front; $ 7 each for the nieces in Cali — shhh, don’t tell, but I actually«borrowed» one and wore it on NYE). Some neat, fun stuff… some Texas tourist junk. An absolute smörgåsbord, if you will, of retail necessities and assorted oddities(see pics). A $ 2 woman’s blouse — OK. Some fake flowers — OK. Really cool Coke collectibles — OK. An alien in a jar — you bet! A fun stroll through to peruse all the goods. :) Friendly ladies working the store; however, don’t be surprised when all the interior lights are abruptly shut off one second after closing… and you will then be quickly«escorted» to the register or the door. Closing time means«Get out!» At least they say«thanks» while their shoe is still half way up your butt and you have one foot out the door. ;) Gotta love F*Burg and the people that put up with all of the tourists and just wanna get home ASAP at the end of the day! I don’t blame them! Happy shopping y’all! :-)

We were looking for an inexpensive hat to replace my husband’s pseudo-panama, and hit the jackpot here. They have dozens of hat styles. I ended up buying one for myself too(only $ 5.19!). Note: they close at 5:30 on weekdays and will turn off all the lights on you(even if you’re still trying on hats). I wish we’d gotten there earlier so that we could check out the entire store. It seemed like a classic 5& dime, with other traditional essentials like buttons and fabric and pots & pans, and non-essentials like rhinestone-decorated trucker caps. It made me think of Daiso, only Midwestern-style(no you don’t really need that straw hat but it’s got a chin strap and is only 5 measly bucks!) Only cash & checks are accepted — no plastic!

This place is cheap… Which is nice but they definitely don’t look to bring quality in their products. It has the feel of a local dollar store. It has a variety of craft supplies though, oddly enough, so I suppose if you need to do a little crafting while visiting, this may be a good place to go.

Not a fancypants store… but definitely full of entertainment. Prepare to find something random & ridiculous to buy. Girlfriends & I had a 20 minute photosession with all of the ridiculous hats they carried: Rotisserie chicken hat, pizza hat, hot dog hat, beer can hat, hamburger hat, jalapeño pepper hat… We weren’t the only ones… there was another customer in the store wearing one of the Reggae dreadlock hats & singing in a Jamaican accent. Perfect photobooth props. I regret not buying one. They also have random things like a cork-gun that makes a «pop» sound, sifter, aisle full of granny undergarments, corn on the cob pipe. Bring $ 20 cash and have some fun.

If you’re in town, you should definitely stop by Dooley’s and take a look around. There are a ton of things to check out and admire. However, I would not buy anything from here unless I just had to have it. It’s not as cheap as you might assume. The staff is very friendly and being from a small town myself, I couldn’t help but get caught up in having a long talk with them! You can definitely find some unique things here. This store is perfect for a small, tourist town.

A large five and dime general store in Fredericksburg, Texas. It looks like an old five and dime turned into a tourist general store. They have all your novelties, gift ideas, snacks, toiletries, and everything you could possibly think off. The store is pretty big and just has every think one would need. It reminded me of the five and dime in Monterrey, California on Fishery Row.

Berfday candles. Pencils. Funnels. Straws. Fabric. Silly hats. Greeting cards. Stuffed animals. Candy. Shirts. Pantyhose. Pepto-Bismol. Refrigerator magnets. Plastic wasps. Mops. Cat stickers. Scooby Doo band-aids. You can get all this junk and more at Dooley’s. Rowdy children. Oblivious tourists. Friendly employees. Camera-happy foreigners. Geriatrics. You can find all these people and more at Dooley’s. For some odd reason, I get the urge to use the restroom whenever I come into this store. A few more words about the bathroom: You must get the key from the counter help. You’d better hope there’s no line, otherwise customers may gripe that you’re butting, even though you’re really not. Once you get in the single-serve bathroom and close the door, you’ll discover a full-length mirror on the back of the door, facing the toilet. This will enable you to indulge in self-voyeurism. Laugh at yourself, or take mirror pics, or admire your bod, or criticize your lack of tan buttocks, or turn beet red at seeing yourself in that most vulnerable position. Whichever you choose, realize you can’t escape it. While I always tend to think of bathroom activities when I think of Dooley’s now, I guarantee you’ll find some non-shitty items sold by non-pissy employees. Cheap items, but not shitty.

Worth to stop buy. If you have been looking for something for years it probably here. My sister spent 2 hours walking around at this store to look at everything. She wants to go back here! We live about 1.5 hrs away. Lol

Cute store in a quaint town… but NOT a 5 and Dime as the name says… more nostalgic than anything. Would recommend stopping by just to check it out if you’ve never been before…

This place is a blast from the past and has a bunch of random stuff that you’d expect from a five and dime. Their silly hats are fun too and everything here is pretty cheap. They had a huge array of enamel cookware; you could go nuts here.

Highlight of my Fredericksburg visits. Yesterday I bought fabric to cover my headboard. My granddaughter found a butterfly necklace. Grandsons bought army figures and a brass armadillo. SIL loved the hats but didn’t buy one. Daughter bought a simple cotton nightdress and some hankies. Saw trays to hold dominoes up. Should have bought them. Oh well, next visit!

I love love love this store. Mrelia is right, they do indeed carry big grandma underpants and half slips. They also have old fashioned Christmas decorations you can’t find anywhere else, wind up bathtub toys, men’s handkerchiefs in a 3 pack with lil monograms, weird Texas souvenir stuff, postcards and even stainless steel washtubs. I felt like I was in a Woolworth’s when I was a kid before they went out of business. Explore the aisles and marvel at stuff you haven’t seen for sale in years. They only take cash and check. No debit cards or credit cards in here.

Walking into Dooley’s is a time warp. It really is an old-fashioned five&dime(with modern pricing because they gotta make a profit to stay around) that carries a bit of everything from candy to cast iron, giant grandma thunderpants, cards, bath stuff, sewing notions, garden stuff and oodles of fun«tacky» souvenirs.

Interesting store. If you’re looking for old school stuff like candies and toys. This place manages to almost always stay busy — even until the last minute before they close. But also keep that in mind when you go in because the aisles can get a little clogged with everyone in there. Nice to go to if you’re feeling nostalgic though.
