Nice décor and atmosphere. Wait staff pleasant and efficient. I ordered smoked salmon with cream cheese on rye bread and shaved radish. No sides with this dish. I received 3 halves of rye spread with the cheese and about 3 or 4 slices of radish. It tasted good yet I got tired of it before finishing it. A better combination would have been one less piece of bread, little less salmon and a side of salad or something that would compliment the salmon. My husband ordered pork chops with eggs and grits, served in a bowl. He would have preferred it on a plate and with a sharp knife to cut his meat. He would have given this place 2 stars. Too froo-froo for him.

I’d recommend the Starla-Cream Pie, truly unfathomable. It’s surprisingly refreshing with hints of pure sugar, but served readily with punishing tastes of a heaven that could never exist. Not normally on the menu, but it is served daily and will leave you crashing so hard from the sugar rush, you’ll go crazy.

The service is great, the menu fresh and varied, and the quality of food on point. The omlette was huge and the chicken biscuit was yummy too. The breakfast potatoes were a nice touch. I’d like to come back and try the whole menu, basically.

Super adorable little restaurant in historic Fredericksburg. There’s only 10 – 15 tables in here which contributes to the nice ambiance. The décor is very rustic chic and the food is quite good! The waiters were great– very friendly and knowledgable about the menu! 4 stars only because the portions were very small. I left a little hungry :/

The food is good… but the drinks(coffee, milk, etc) are sooooo overpriced! I think it was like $ 6 for a cup of black drip coffee! $ 6 for a cup of milk… either way it ended up being about $ 80 for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat breakfast! The food was good and we love that they use local meats and produce when possible but I can’t imagine who could afford to eat here regularly!

I had a bloody mary which was out of this world if you like a spicy bloody mary, the drink menu looked great which is a must for a brunch place. The coffee was good too! My mother loved the chicken biscuit. The décor was really well put together. I really liked this place. I think our original server forgot about us and another waitress took us over but the experience was good enough to make up for that.

This is my favorite place on earth! Yes it is! You can never go wrong with Brunch, but most of all you will never regret eating here or @ Foode’s. Both places are amazing, but I think is the staff who is the best! And if I can be here every day I would! The place is amazing, the decoration is marvelous. The food… The BEST! …What to try? What do I recommend? EVERYTHING!!! Yes it can get crowded, more around 9−11am and on weekends, but they have the staff, and they are so great that time will pass by fast… Just have a Mimosa, bloody marry, or their house drinks and you will be fine…

We came for lunch and thought the menu was a little limited. We had Oven Roasted Turkey, sausage omelet, chicken tacos and greens salad. The tacos came with no sides thought that odd. The turkey sandwich with salt and pepper chips were very good. The sausage omelet was good. The salad with bread was good also. We might be back when we are in the area

This review is meant to be 3.5 . I was in DC for an important errand and thought I’d stop by in Fredericksburg for a quick lunch before going home. I also didn’t realized that one of my closest friend lives in the area. I found this place via Unilocal and the reviews were pretty much inviting. I didn’t know that this place is located in the heart of Downtown Historic Area. I must say its a very interesting place where both locals and tourist collides. This street is also one of the busiest street in the area. It was little busy when I entered the premises but thanks God there was table waiting for me. I admit I was skeptical but I was also hungry. Long story short, I got seated and served right away which really favors for me because my tummy was already crawling. So I ordered a scone of the day and mini biscuits served with apple cinnamon butter. Thought it was extremely tasty. I love bread and I appreciate a great and fresh pastry. What a fantastic starter specially when your terribly hungry. For main course, I ordered the NY strip steak biscuit. The presentation was spot on. It was visually stunning however I just wish it was good as the starter. I was a little disappointed because it was totally opposite. The steak itself was dry, over — cooked, and gummy. I was fighting the meat the entire time. It was blunt and needed more seasoning. Thought the only component that bind the whole dish was the biscuits. Overall, it was a great visit. I will come back again and give a try.

My boyfriend and I come here on our days off as often as we can! The bloody mary’s and mimosas are delicious and generously portioned, Nathan the bartender makes your drinks with amazing care and skill and is so friendly! The food is delicious and different every week and comes out piping hot every time. The building is small so naturally on the weekend there will be a wait but the staff is exceptionally warm and attentive. The apple butter biscuit starter is delicious and comes on an adorable Virginia shaped cutting board. If you’re in downtown for brunch this is the best spot!

This is a very small restaurant with limited hours, so check before coming. It was a lovely lunch with friendly servers in a laid-back atmosphere. The food and drinks were wholesomely delicious!

This is the second time I’ve eaten at Mercantile and I’ve had the same thing both times. «The Bluebird» is AMAZING. The flavors of the brisket were perfection today. And the combination of different flavors were spectacular. I also love the cornbread — a perfect combo of savory with a tiny bit sweet. We’ll be back for sure!

I’ve eaten at Mercantile around seven or eight times now, and their food has been consistently delicious. They use natural, local ingredients, and it shows. Their food tastes fresh and healthy, even the sandwich breads taste fresh baked. It’s definitely a contender for best tasting brunch in town, and there are plenty of awesome brunch places in Fredericksburg. Their service also has been pretty good, up until today. We arrived at 2:15, forty five minutes before they close. We were hesitant to come so near closing time(3:00,) but the restaurant was still very full of people, and the hostess immediately sat us without any sort of warning about closing soon. Our server was obviously very disappointed she had been sat, and did not do a great job hiding it. We felt rushed all throughout our meal, and I got a box so I could finish my food at home without feeling pressured. It was uncomfortable. While my food was delicious, I felt like I wasted my money because I couldn’t enjoy it. We walked out the door at 3:03, which I didn’t think was unreasonable, but I felt like We were a huge inconvenience to the staff.(We weren’t the last customers to leave, for the record.) I will say that today is the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, so our server may have had a particularly stressful shift. I will definitely be returning to Mercantile, but never less than two hours before closing. If they don’t want people to come in near closing, they should close the kitchen an hour earlier, or at least warn customers that their meal will be rushed.

Well, another Unilocal score! Casual ambiance, moder setting in Old Town Fredericksburg main street. Definitely not your local dinner/breakfast place. Upscale — classic type brunch. Oh and definitely come on a special occasion or if ya got that cash flow! Great food no doubt. FYI, kids didn’t care for the scrambled eggs because the black pepper was visible… Sigh.

HIGHLY Recommend this location… Brought to you by the Ladies of Foode you can’t go wrong at this culinary find. The portions and value are perfect for the area the atmosphere is great and I love the fact that it is a Millennial establishment. The food is all fresh and locally sourced which makes it a rarity to find at such a great price point. The flavors are awesome and I would recommend checking this place out for breakfast lunch and dinner.

This is an update to my original review. So my original review had a few complaints, but due a an AWESOME manager, Mary, my husband and I were asked to come back. Mary wanted us to enjoy a better experience and truly show us how Mercantile gets down. **this review was not asked to be changed, updated, or even mentioned, but I’m updating it bc they truly deserve it. I think you can read my previous review.** When I say Mary and her staff did an amazing job of taking care of my husband and I, they honestly did. My husband retried his Skillet Pancake with the pork chop and it was really good. I tried the Bartley Porridge and it was also really good. We also had some WONDERFUL pastry appetizers. One was the dark chocolate chip and cranberry scone and the other was a Carrot Streusel Muffin. The scone was good but that dang Carrot Muffin was everything! Good job Mercantile. Overall we definitely enjoyed our experience. I truly wanted to write this update to brag on Mary and her staff for showing us a wonderful time. The food was good but it really stands out when you have a wonderful manager who cares about her customers. I have received plenty of messages on Unilocal from managers thanking me for feedback. I couldn’t help but notice the one who invited us back to make up for the complaints she received in my previous review. The complaints weren’t horrible but the fact that she took it upon herself to pay attention to the not so good instead of «just» the positive says a lot! She is truly a good manager and Joy and Beth made a good business decision to ask her to be manager. Way to go Mercantile team and Mary!

Having the same genius minds behind Foode(Joy & Beth!) already set Mercantile ahead of the game. We went here for lunch the other day and were NOT disappointed. We shared the steak tacos and the roasted turkey breast sandwich and we both had the pour over coffee. The coffee was delish and came with little pastries. The steak tacos was my favorite between the two meals, but the roasted turkey breast sandwich was also very good. I can’t wait to try this spot for breakfast and to come back again for lunch! Their menu ideas are always so fun and I just can’t get enough of their food!
