Small and kinda dirty. Like something you would see on the show bar rescue. Food was frozen. Chicken pesto wrap was chewy and full of gristle. The only part I can honestly say I liked about it was the history and the waitress was very sweet. Don’t go here. Bar sucked too… $ 9.00 for a crown and coke was more expensive than our meal.

Extremely dirty, over priced, and 99.9% of the time the bartender’s will ignore you when you ask for water.

Not surprised to see that this place only has two stars. It’s very run down(which is ok because most divey places are) but usually places like this tend to have extremely good customer service or food. I only got to experience the service and I can assure you if the food is as horrible of the service this place is absolutely worthless. I was with a group of friends 10+(all of which are servers and know a thing or two about handling customers), we ordered 6 fireball shots, the lady bartender poured them and never gave a price to us. I watched her from mix to pour and not once did she give me a price. She poured the shots and when she got done a fellow bar patron continued to help disburse them to us. Pissed off because we hadn’t paid(we had no idea how much we needed to lay) she yanked back the shots and put them behind the bar. She then appeared agitated as if we were in the wrong but I had literally been watching her the entire time and would have easily paid for the over priced shots if she had spitted out a number. Finally she did, turned around and for a continued 4.5 minutes she ignored us as we tried giving her the money. I’m not usually this dissatisfied with a first time experience but this one stole the cake. I’ll never come here again. If anyone asks to go here I’ll recommend somewhere else close by but this place will never see another dime from me. Horrible horrible horrible service, Over priced drinks, and extremely dirty.

Excellent. Exactly what I expected and the was food was great. My entrée was the New Yorker Sandwich(sans tomato) with fries; delicious. The family and I had four great sandwiches at a very reasonable price. The interior is great, it fits the feel of downtown Fxbg. We will be dining there again!

This place gets a 3 only because the staff is really good. The bar itself is divey, dirty, and run down. You get a mixed crowd from hippies, to grundgie gross people, to attractive people and its got 2 floors. One is a dance floor and one is more of strictly a bar area. A lot of kids from UMW seem to go here after Jays closes. Its not that terrific though… It’s the 4th bar id visit in a normal night

One of the best dive bars downtown. The bartenders are always friendly and keep your drinks full. Place isn’t the cleanest but what do you expect for a dive bar? Music is blaring from the jukebox and you can create the song list from your phone. If you talk to the regulars the say you cant beat the Rits… The outside is starting to come together out back and is a nice hangout anytime. I will continue coming back for cheap drinks and good times. O and Thursdays are $ 5 pitchers… you cant beat that!

Came on a Wednesday. One of the only places we could find that stayed open late. Atmosphere is def dive bar. But it has its own personality. Wednesday specials are 40 cent wings and 2 dollar rolling rocks. Those wings are amazing! Shout out to our bartender. He was friendly and always made sure your glass was never empty.

First sat down and it smelled weird. Felt dirty. Took 40 – 60 minutes to get a wrap and a gyro. And when we did recieve the order it was wrong. Didn’t even care at that point, we were sooo hungry. Was just average tasting. Won’t be headed back.

Overall pretty nice place for lunch. Cant comment on the dark interior, we ate on the patio outside which is only two tables but was good enough for us. The food was much better than I expected. Service was a little slow(food wait only) but I cant say I experienced the rude treatment mentioned in previous posts. Our waitress was polite and attentive. We will probably come back.

Not sure how this place stays open. Less than 4 tables with 2 servers. 45 min to get food and all 3 dishes had something wrong.

It is $ 10 for a double shot drink. Enough said. This is not DC. This is home of restaurants that majorly close at 9pm. Spirits is a rip off. Whiskey sours are all sour. That is all.

Went here today for the first and last time. The place was dark and dirty looking but we were hungry. Only a few people in the place but one had to sit behind me and continue to lean back in the tiny bench pressing me against the table. The food finally came and the sandwich wasn’t bad, but there was a roach that seemed to want it more than I did. When I said something to the waitress she said she had not seen any today. She did try to take care of our bill, but we paid it anyway. I will not go there again after reading the other reviews. Just wished I’d read them before we went in.

Is this a dive? Yes… it’s old and dark and i was leery when we sat down because it is definitely not the Ritz. But boy was i thrilled when my food came out. the fries were crispy perfection the corn beef with hand cut on my REuben! Great toasty rye and flavorful sauerkraut combined make one delicious sandwich. my son got the burger with mushrooms and bacon. first let me say this thing is huge! now this is a kid who can eat a Mac truck… but was happy and full after eating it. if you are looking for ambiance and high end linens, this is not your place, but if you can look past the décor you are in for one heck of a meal!

This place is great! This is the second time I’ve eaten there and have enjoyed both times. The portions are huge and the food is fresh and delicious

Kind of divey atmosphere but the staff is all friendly and awesome! The bar has a big outdoor space in the back, dancing upstairs, and pool tables in the back. Bigger than the bourbon room but the crowd isn’t always as large. Go here if you wanna chat a little drink a little and maybe dance depending on how big the crowd is.

Dont ever go here, dinning nightmare! We stopped by for a quick lunch and after waiting an hour for our food(since we ordered) we got up and left. Place was a total dump, waiters were shouting back and forth from the front to back of the resturant. They also didnt have my first two food choices. We walked by later and the waitress was walking around the street asking for change for a 20. Haha wow so glad we walked out.

Excellent food! Great prices. My family really enjoyed eating downtown. Chef Todd is amazing and the server, Donna, was terrific! The other reviews seem old. It’s worth another look.

I’ve always known the place was a dive. However, I used to have a lot of friends frequent the place, and they always had cold PBR. My friends have since moved on since my last visit, and I can safely say, so have I. When you walk into the place you’re greeted with a musky smell. You may or may not get the attention of the bartender, unless it’s Richard, he’s the lone bright spot of the place, and he is always quick with a drink and quicker with a quip. Once you get your cold, refreshing PBR, you’ll notice that the only place you’d be willing to sit is on the bar stools. The other seating is dirty and just smells awful. God knows what has happened on those things. On your way to the back you’ll find a cigarette machine and the bathrooms. Often times, the high quality clientele has ripped the door off of the men’s bathroom. This is wonderful as anybody who is walking in the place can see you urinating. Upon entrance to said bathroom, the stench from week old, yeast filled urine about knocks you over, and the interesting graffiti, will make you question your life choices. Beyond the bathrooms there are two very worn pool tables that are now often times missing balls. Then lastly, is the deck, where all the smokers will hang out. Sometimes there is stuff going on the third floor. If you have to visit this establishment, make sure it’s on a third floor night, as you can find a solid DJ, and your stay isn’t as painful. Don’t even get me started about the food. I haven’t seen a native even entertain the idea.

You read the reviews here and that should be enough to tell you NOT to eat here. I’ve been a regular of Spirits for years but would never eat there. I know better. There are bugs, as in roaches. They have mice and rats. They have a lot of expired food as in mayonnaise. I’m writing this to save people from being sick. It’s a miracle if you eat here and you don’t get sick. Usually the only people who eat at Spirits are tourists who don’t know any better. Yes, the girls who wait tables are always new. They can’t keep servers downstairs because they can’t make enough money to support themselves. Lately I’ve been less of a regular. I’m kinda tired of being overcharged at the bar upstairs. I’m tired of draft beer from dirty lines. They never clean or change the lines. The bartenders don’t pay attention. They spend me time on their android phones or talking to their friends than actually waiting on customers. When Brian is bartending he’s outside smoking and hitting on girls more often than serving customers. Also, when he closes the place he often talks girls into staying after for more drinks behind locked doors. I bet ABC would love that tidbit. Brian and Richard are nice guys but they need a refresher course in bartending, or just a course in how to serve people. The bathroom upstairs is ridiculous. The mens room smells like urine. It doesn’t just smell like urine, it smells like a porta potty that’s been knocked over. Often one toilet is broken. About the overcharging. There’s been a lot of talk about it from customers and it’ll probably catch up to them someday. From hearing so many people talk about it it’s becoming a huge problem. Dive bars are cool. I like the clientele here. I like the graffiti in the bathrooms. I like seeing regulars. I don’t mind that the place is falling apart(though I do mind water coming out of the ceiling on top of people which I’ve seen happen twice). But I don’t like all the stuff I mentioned above. And it’s also amazing the health department hasn’t shut them down. You can go to the health department’s website and read their inspections. So, Spirits, stop. Stop the shit and run a bar the way it should be. Clean your taps. Serve your customers. Clean the bathroom.

We stopped into Spirits while killing time to grab a drink and maybe a small bite. Luckily, I had to use the restroom and the trip to the restroom and back convinced me that this was not a place where I’d want to order ANYTHING. The restroom and the entire back of the store was disgustingly filthy! If that’s how they kept the front of the restaurant, I couldn’t IMAGINE what was lurking in the kitchen. IMHO, stay away at all costs until it is gutted and remodeled.
