Sometimes the hospitality speaks louder than the actual B&B. In this case, unfortunately, the inn keeper ruined our stay and tried to sabotage our wedding day. As you will read in the reviews of the Richard Johnston Inn, Bonnie is not your typical B&B manager. She makes it her job to incite drama and create issues for her guests. My husband and I rented the entire house for our wedding weekend. We are well traveled professionals in our 30s who have stayed in hotels and B&Bs all over the world. Originally, we thought The Caroline House would be the perfect spot for us and 2 additional couples who had each just had babies. We informed Bonnie of who would be staying there up front and made the deposit. Our friends had a few questions about the house so they decided to call Bonnie. After their call they informed us that they didn’t feel welcome at the Caroline House, based on the way Bonnie treated them, and would instead book at the Marriott. I guess she had a change of heart and thought they would create issues(even though the babies couldn’t even crawl at that point…). We then had to scramble at the last minute to find new guests to stay with us. Bonnie’s questionable approach with our friends caused us to rethink our decision to stay there but we decided to keep the reservation. I guess we should’ve followed our gut after what came next… The night before our wedding my husband had a few of his groomsmen over for pizza and drinks after our rehearsal event at The Belmont. The following day Bonnie called our reception manager(yes, of our wedding) and told her to «watch out for this group because we trashed the place.» As you can imagine, the reception manager was alarmed and called me while I was getting ready – not exactly how you want to spend time before walking down the aisle. In FACT, there were a few pizza boxes on top of the trashcan and a wine bottle on the outside table. There was not a party but a small gathering – one of the reasons we rented the entire house in the first place. The house was in perfect order. If you have a REAL problem or concern with a guest you would call them directly, not the business owner who is working hard to prepare for their wedding. Bonnie NEVER called us about the issue or brought it up before checking out; we had to confront her about her action. Her malicious, petulant behavior had my blood boiling on my wedding day, not what any bride would ask for. After returning home from our wedding we found our credit card had been charged for an additional $ 600WITHOUT notification. I called to find out why and Bonnie said that the door of the refrigerator had to be repaired after our stay. The door was loose before we arrived; in fact, they mentioned it on our tour of the place. We eventually spoke to the owners, who were traveling out of the country; they apologized and refunded the additional charge. The actual house is beautiful but I CANNOT recommend staying there while Bonnie is in charge. Our big day was absolutely perfect except for her intrusion. As you can see from my other reviews I am not one to give 1 star, in this case, it was well deserved.
