Easily both the best service as well as food I’ve ever had. Owner is super friendly and the waitstaff is on point. Truthfully the only restaurant I tell people they HAVE to go to. Incredible. Glad that this was my first Indian food experience.

Our favored indian place in Freehold, everything is good and if your uncertain of your heat level they can bring you indian red chilli powder to up it to your liking. It is byob with with a liquor store across the street. When it gets nice out they open two sets of double doors to allow nice air flow. Also I wouldn’t come to close to their opening or closing times as they often open late and close early.

Good food and decent pricing. The room for dining is bigger then I thought and the design and feel is very simple which I do like. Gave it 4 stars because I’ve had better Indian food but this pretty good in terms of taste. I feel there is a just little bit of kick that it sort of misses, but overall I like that place and I would come back.

My family hosted a birthday party here in Gola’s private room. The owner, Ankur, was so helpful and patient while arranging everything. The restaurant is gorgeous and creates such a nice ambiance for having a get together. The dishes came out in a timely manner, the presentation was great and the food was delicious. Our friends and family had a wonderful time and everyone enjoyed the food ! I definitely recommend the bhangan bharta(eggplant), malai kofta, and dehli chicken and the chicken shah jahani! The naan and onion kulcha were amazing as well! The waiters were very attentive and handled our large group well! Can’t wait to come back here again!

We tried this place a few weeks ago for the first time and loved it. My husband loves spicy food and he was in heaven! My only complaint is that some of the food is a little too spicy for my liking. I ordered a lentil dish and when they asked how spicy I wanted it, I said medium. When I tried it I felt that it was way spicier than medium. Almost right away the waiter came up to me and asked if everything was ok… I told him I felt it was too spicy and they took it back right away and made me a new one. The second try was delicious! The naan was the best I’ve ever had. The wait staff couldn’t be nicer!

I’ve eaten at many of the Indian restaurants in the area and this is by far the best. The owner has restaurants in India and remains authentic to the flavor profiles of each dish. Ingredients are fresh and of high quality. Spice levels are chosen by the diner for each dish and there is a complexity to the flavors of even the spiciest dishes. No one will say that Indian food has a bland flavor profile, but at Gola the dishes are both flavorful and extremely well balanced, allowing the nuances of each spice to come through in the final product. The owner is almost always on site and the staff is very knowledgeable and their recommendations have always been spot on. Even if you are new to, or even afraid of trying Indian food, head to Gola and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Just moved to the area a month ago and after the first visit with my wife, we were blown away. The service, food, and atmosphere is outstanding. Some of my favorite dishes here are the paneer and butter chicken, delicious! This is our go-to spot for delicious Indian food, good job guys!

Stopping by for lunch on my way to the mall for some shopping, Gola looked like a nice place to try out for lunch. The restaurant is pretty large and decorated beautifully in a very modern look that would not look out of place in NYC. Me and my sister were the first people in the restaurant for lunch arriving around 12:15PM. Perusing the menu, it was interesting not to see any lunch specials. One is forced to order straight from the dinner menu, no biggie but I would like to see something for a quick lunch at a corresponding price. We were quickly seated and provided a complimentary platter of lentil chips served with two dipping sauces. It was a nice start as the chips were very crisp and I really enjoyed the sweet dark tamarind based sauce. For the entrée I ordered the Goat Rogan Josh. I ordered it very spicy which supposedly was the highest heat level and despite this I found my dish not meeting that level of heat. I attribute this to my very high tolerance for hot/spicy food. Goat was pretty tender(considering goat is a very lean meat) and not at all gamey. Solid. My sister ordered the Angara Murg Sizzler which was served on a hot cast iron skillet. It was a pretty large portion of veggies, rice, and tandoori chicken. She told me the veggies were fresh, rice was tasty, and the chicken well seasoned. Having sampled a piece of the chicken tandoori I found it a tad dry. Again solid. Naan bread was good. Though the garlic naan was different than traditional garlic naan bread I’ve tried before as the naan was covered with diced/grated bits of garlic versus being embedded into the dough itself. In addition pretty much every garlic naan I’ve eaten before also had scallion embedded with the dough. The paneer Kulcha was tasty with small chunks of rich paneer inside the bread that made the bread taste like a pizza(in a good way LOL). Service was fine. One cleanliness issue I have to mention which my sister noticed. The women’s bathroom waste basket was filled to the rim which kind of shows lack of attention IMO(one would think coming off a Saturday night, the restaurant probably needed a good cleaning come Sunday morning before opening). The restaurant was very clean throughout elsewhere though. Pretty solid Indian food, but I feel you can get slightly better quality and at a better price point in Edison where there are a lot more options for Indian food.

Easily the best Indian Food around! …and its not even close. I stopped in one afternoon while in Freehold and landed in Gola. I wasn’t intending on getting a lunch buffet, but it was diverse and looked incredible, especially considering it was on 12.99. I was blown away by the quality of their lunch offerings. The chicken in the tikka masala was good white meat chicken, the spices were on point, and flavors were outstanding. The palak panner had ample amounts of paneer in it. There’s nothing worse that a paneer dish with 2 small pieces of paneer in it. I got to chatting the owner while I was there and was impressed by his graciousness, offering to get me things frm the kitchen. I look forward to getting back there for one of their sizzling plates!

Hmm. I know I wrote a review for this place, but I can’t seem to find it now. Weird. Anyway, on to the review. There has been a lot of talk about Gola since they first started rebuilding that space. We waited a while before we decided to dine there, just so they had time to work out their kinks(which can sometimes be expected with a grand opening). They did a great job with the interior and it’s pretty big inside. The service was good but the food disappointed me a little. It had an Americanized taste(think P.F. Chang’s version of «Chinese food»). While it was good for those unfamiliar with Indian cuisine(like my mother — it was her first time ever trying Indian food so she loved it), it will disappoint those who want authentic tasting Indian food. I suppose it’s a smart move, given the location. Strictly judging on it authenticity for those Indian food lovers, I have to give it a 3.5.

Yes yes yes! When my favorite Indian restaurant closed in Marlboro, it was hard to find any decent Indian restaurants in the area as my family and I tried many. Gola is a god send! Delicious food, beautiful décor(love the dinnerware), nyc ambiance, BYOB, and excellent service. We’ve gone twice in a week, maybe a little excessive… But so so good! We started with the vegetable samosa which was too doughy for my liking, however the tandoori aloo is flavorful with a little spice. As far as their entrees, you can order mild medium or hot. We got the chicken tikka masala(also you can ask for lamb or goat), goat rogan josh and the lamb mutton shahi korma. The meat cooked perfectly and the sauces were so delcious! The only«complaint» I have: One time my family and I went on a Saturday and we waited about 40 minutes for our main course and in the side room they had a 20 person party. Both our server and the manager came over apologizing and gave us an extra side of rice with our main course. We didn’t mind because there is nothing worse than feel rushed anyway. Gola is a must try… And repeat!

Went there for dinner yesterday and the service was pretty lame. Arrived at 720pm, and we were seated in 10 minutes. However, after placing the order for two appetizers and two entrees, that’s when things started to take a nose dive. It took 30 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, They appologized for the wait. We quickly finished it because we were starving. After finishing the appetizers another 30 minutes goes by. They come by and appologize it will be right out in a few moments another 20 minutes goes by. They come again saying another minute or two and the waiter appologize while offerning no bread or free appetizers. I’m sorry but an applogize is not enough. At least throw us your 4 dollar bread… We also noticed that a table that came in after us already received their food. So we decided we would leave in 10 minutes if the food did not arrive or a free appetizer to hold us over. A total of 1 hour and 25 minutes and no Entrees. So we decide to get up and leave because we have a 4 year old child with the babysitter. The waiter runs out and shouts across the street«You forgot to pay for your appetizers». I shout out saying«I know». He then shouts back and says«Don’t come back here again». I said ok your place is a dime a dozen.

My boyfriend and I were looking to try something new. I always pass this place on my way into work so I figured we’d give it a shot and I’m glad we did! We started with the samosas which were filled with a flavorful potato and pea mixture that was not too spicy. The dough was crispy and beautifully flaky. I had chicken tikka masala with bone in chicken pieces and my boyfriend had the lamb biryani. Out of this world! My chicken was fa off the bone tender in a sumptuous creamy tomato sauce. His lamb was flavorful in a bed of fluffy rice with a yogurt mint sauce on the side for drizzling. I appreciate how attentive our servers were. They knew the menu well and were quick to give us suggestions as first timers. They also paid attention to the spice level. My boyfriend and I both chose a medium spice level. The flavors were not overwhelmed at all but still had a little kick. Can’t wait until we go back!

First time here, with good friends. We had the lamb seek kebab and chicken malai kebab, both were amazing. Also had the chicken tikka masala, chicken sizzler and another chicken dish with garlic naan’s, food was great, ambiance is also nice, with subtle Indian background music. Price was great, it’s also BYOB, we had a great waiter, and the owner also came by to say hi. One waiter was great, however took a few minutes before a young lady came over and asked us to take out bottles of wine. I think she was new, but overall great experience.

We actually started following the anticipated opening for Gola over a year ago and finally it is here, and sure to be a huge hit with all of us Indian food lovers in New Jersey. Part of a restaurant group in New Deli India they bring their speciality sizzling platter dishes to our country right here in Freehold. The décor and music fantastic right out of Manhattan. The owner and his lovely wife are hands on and super friendly and informative. Now for the food — in a word fabulous. We sampled many dishes including meat dishes of several types of chicken and lamb and salmon as well as vegetarian dishes like chickpea and lentils. Our vegetarian sizzling platter was delicious as well and our garlic naan was the best ever tasted. Being so full we had to pass on dessert but we will partake on our next visit. Gola was well worth the wait for as it is destined to become one of the top Indian restaurants in the state. Go here, you will not be disappointed…
