CRAP! Very bad. The quality and quantity is both bad. I have tried both in Sunnyvale and Fremont… Both are equally bad. They use unhealthy used oil, the food tastes stale. We had taken Bhel puri and masala dosa… Bhel puri was not upto the mark and quantity was too less… Masala Dosa — chutney/sambar was the worst to say the least. The owner of this restaurant should try eating at other south indian restaurants in Bay area and he will come to know what quality they are serving the customers.

I thought this would be the place for us to eat dosa from here on as I said in my previous review. So here is the update. I have been there 4 times after my last review. Every time the quality went down and down. Today was absolutely crazy. We checked in and in few minutes we got seated. About 10 minutes later a guy came and asked if we are ready to order. I was like where is the menu sir? He was like oh ok let me get you one. So finally ordered what we wanted. So about 30 minutes later another guy came to us and asked if we are ready to order. I said we ordered over half an hour ago. He said what did you ordered? At this time I was mad but kept my cool and said please ask that guy. He wrote it down. So now after another 30 minutes food arrived and it was different food than what we ordered. I asked him is this what I ordered? He lied right on my face and said yes. That is kara spicy onion dosa. I asked him where are the onions? OMG he said it’s mixed in dosa. Jesus! We didn’t have time to waste so we ate whatever he gave us which was useless BTW and we paid and before we left, I told the owner about the situation. He said we could have made you another dosa. I was like I told your employee that is not the dosa we ordered but he kept saying that this is the dosa. Anyways enough said. I am done with place. Very disappointed.

Trying out yummy vada and dosa at Ananda Bhavan. Come here for authentic South Indian food! But slow service even when the place isn’t even half full!

Nice place! Food is really good. Friendly staff. Their sambhar, rasam are really good. One of the better authentic South Indian food places in Bay Area. Will be back sure.

Food is mediocre its not spicy so if that is your forte then this is not the place to come We ordered a couple of dosas and we were surprised at the quality of the food… Not good the spicy dosa was no where close to being spicy, the utapam was soggy, the sambar was terrible. The rava dosa was decent The place is clean well kept. Would not recommend if you like spicy south Indian food or good south Indian food.

We ordered a lot but food was mediocre. We ordered rava masala dosa, a thali, idli and dahi vada. Rava masala dosa was not crispy chutneys had too much salt Thali– daals had too much salt but the sweets were good Idli plate — nothing to rave about Dahi vada — fresh vada dipped in dahi … I don’t think that’s how it is made

This is the only place I’ve been to that has different options like coconut dosa and cheese dosa. I like the paneer dosa and the medhu vadas. Their lassis are good too and they have prompt customer service. I like the interior décor and the general ambience. Whenever I’m in the bay this is our go to dosa place

Tried their butter masala dosa — which along with all the chutneys and sambar was really good. Service was fast, food came out in less than 10 mins. Ambiance is nothing fancy but the place is spectacularly clean. Fairly priced menu, flavorful food– would recommend this place.

Food was really good. Owner is really helpful, he helped us to find no onion no garlic food options and made everything ok, we are having great experience. I would definitely recommend this to others if you are looking for great pure vegetarian South Indian food !! :)

Came here on Diwali, and we got chakra pongal complimentary. Ordered Kalyanam Sapadu, Onion rava and also checked in to get the free chana chaat. Onion rava was really tasty and served with 4 chutneys. Kalyanam Sapadu was superb. The one place where poori was fresh and made from wheat and correct size. Kalyanam Sapadu is a must order if you’re hungry and want to taste authentic South Indian food. I ordered a side of Vatha kozambhu to go since it was delicious. Staff was friendly and ambience was good. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband I are honest South Indian food lovers. Idli, Dosa, Uttapam, Poori, Thali meals and so on, are regular items we enjoy in any given South Indian restaurant. Anand Bhavan in Fremont is one such place, we decided to give a shot and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered masala dosa and uttapam, and a friend who had come along with us ordered one of the combo choices they offer. Together we felt, it was one of the good choices we made to get to and try. Dosa and uttapam were up to the mark in taste and presentation. The combo meal ideally fit a single person’s appetite with appropriate portions of idli, vada, upma, sweet and papad. They offer many other dosa and uttampam varieties which probably is worth checking out. The only item we really didn’t like was their filter coffee. It wasn’t strong enough and had a lot of milk cream floating in it, which I personally detest. Other than that, it’s definitely a promising restaurant with friendly staff members.

Filter coffee was the highlight of my meal here. I could probably stop my review here, but I’ll continue on so you get a sense of the food… I ordered the bhel puri and the rava dosa, and neither were that great. The bhel was much too overpriced for the portion served(esp compared to restaurants in the same area!). The spice level was high, which left my sinuses super clear at the end of the meal. The rava dosa was light and flaky, but the batter had no flavor to it, which made for a less than satisfying dosa. In addition, the sambar was super thick and most of the chutneys not worth eating either(except for the peanut chutney, which is a rare find and was actually reasonable). Overall, with such intense competition for Indian food in the Fremont area, I’m rather surprised at the lackluster taste and flavor of the dishes at Ananda Bhavan. I didn’t find anything really worth returning for, so I most likely won’t, unless I have some intense filter coffee craving that can’t be satisfied elsewhere.

After experiencing some terrible services at Saravana Bhavan, we finally decided to check out Ananda Bhavan for some South Indian vegetarian food. We came here on Sunday for brunch. The place looked clean and spacious. The server was friendly and the service was quick. For South Indian restaurants, I always keep Idli as the bench mark and Ananda Bhavan was not upto the expectation. Idli was not very soft. We also ordered the Paper roast masala dosa. The potato masala was good. I also liked the peanut chutney that came with it. Poori masala was good too. It was the same potato masala like in the dosa. The filter coffee was the best part of the meal. It was in fact, one of the best filter coffee I had in recent times Overall a great place for vegetarians. They are also open at 8:30AM on the weekends for breakfast!

Hygienic and decent looking place with good food and prices. A typical South Indian(although was surprised that it wasn’t very spicy!) meal. Good service, I must add. Someone was always checking on us if we needed anything. They were quick and food was warm and fresh and tasty. They also had paan; if anyone cares! Is not my most favorite place but Shall go back definitely!
