I haven’t been here in years, even though I live less than a mile away. I have had really good fried catfish, deep fried okra, and peach cobbler in the past. Note the cobbler is Southern style with nutmeg. Tonight my wife had a sudden urge for ribs, so we ordered some with onion rings and coleslaw. The ribs were meaty and tender, though a little dry, and the sauce is mild for this capsicum addict, but good. The thick cut onion rings were excellent and the coleslaw very much to my taste — not too sweet, not swimming in dressing, and finely chopped. There is no menu online for ordering info. I would scan the one I picked-up if I could post it. NOTE: In spite of other reviews, this is a cash only business. No credit cards or checks.

I ordered the bbq tri tip sandwich. It tasted very good but too much like a bbq hot pocket with more flavor. Unfortunately the place was not busy at all during lunchtime. The prices were a little too expensive for me as the combo plates were around $ 12 each. I really wanted to try out the ribs but it was too costly for me. Usually I would spend about 9 dollar for a rib combo. Not worth trying $ 12 bbq my first time around. This place is definitely a hole in the wall. I would probably come back trying another dish such as the ribs or pulled pork.

Visited 5⁄26 for the first time and everything from food to service was delicious and great. I had brisket and pork ribs with potato salad and baked beans and it was simply amazing. The BBQ sauce is so thick and it has a kick to it. The service is very good. There is only one server that is also the cashier, but she manages it all very well. The cooks that bring the food are very nice. Overall, the hospitality is great! Unfortunately, the sweet potato pie that I was looking forward to was all gone, so I decided on peach cobbler which satisfied me just as much. I will DEFINITELY be returning VERY soon!

Great, super yummy, authentic bbq! Love this place! The pulled pork, hot links, chicken, and brisket are all amazing! I love all the sides they offer as well. Prices could be a little lower, and then I would visit even more! My only complaint is their hours, many times I will try to go(when they should be opened according to the hours on the door), and they are closed…

If you want real BBQ and you want true Southern BBQ, COMEHERE! South Carolina BBQ. Everything is fantastic. Their lunch sandwiches are $ 7 for a full helping of meat, a side and a drink. The owner is the cook, and the cashier is the waitress. How great is that? Please support your local businesses and get amazing food.

Worst service I have ever had. Took over 40 minutes to receive our food, and we received half of the party’s food almost 10 minutes before the second half received their food. 30 minutes after we placed our order the waitress came back to our table to tell us that they did not have the meet to make one of our items ordered. Worst of it all was the fact that we had a table of 5 and the only other people in the restaurants was a table of 2. To top it all of the food was COLD and not very good. WARNING — CASHONLY!!! We will never go back.

My first time here… AL: Hello How are you doing, may I have the beef ribs, baked beans, and corn. SHE:(Southern Heritage Employee): Sorry sir we are out of the beef ribs tonight. AL: Alrighttt… May I have the pork ribs instead. SHE: Sure. AL: Mmmmm the Peach cobbler looks tasty, may I have a slice of Peach cobbler. SHE: Sorry sir, we are out of cobbler tonight. AL: Ohhhhh K… Then can I have a slice of the Apple pie. SHE: Were out of that also. AL: Mannnn… Did I come at a bad time? SHE: No. We are closing in about an hour. AL: Smh, lol, Ohhh, Is this normal??? SHE: No sir AL: Too bad, I was really looking forward to having some dessert. SHE: I’m sorry sir AL: It’s all good, I’m just going to Unilocal you. haha I really didn’t mean to go into the whole play by play, but I thought this was so hilarious I felt I had to share the comedy. «I’m just saying». I was real hungry and wanted to try a new neighborhood cuisine. I heard about Southern Heritage BBQ so I decided to give it a try. With all that above being said, on to the food. I ordered the BBQ beef ribs, baked beans and corn. The BBQ beef rib was surprisingly pretty good. Sauce was kind of a zesty spicy flavor. Almost enough to be a lil too spicy for BBQ but not quite. The baked beans were very rich in flavor, too defining for baked beans. The corn and white bread sorry(Texas toast) was probably the least of my favorites. Pretty much Plain Jane. I think this could be a cool lunch spot to get a BBQ chicken sandwich or a link or something. I think that’s my limit. There hours are strange. Closed Sunday, Monday. Open Tue-Thur 11:30am — 2:30pm and 5pm — 8:30 pm. Friday & Saturday 11:30am — 9:00 pm. I don’t know… too much thinking for me. There open mid day closed for a couple of hours and re open for dinner service. Why not stay open all day all the time? The décor was shabby, old, and clustered. I’m not trying to be negative just honest. For what it’s worth the meal wasn’t too bad. I’ve experienced better, but the out of stocks is what really took the rating down to a 2 star. Will I go back for lunch, mmmmm still debating.

My girlfriend had been meaning to take me to Southern Heritage for quite some time now, but our schedules always conflicted. Thank goodness, we finally managed to set up a time to go grab some lunch the other week. I think we came in for lunch around 3:30PM and there was only one other customer there, who was waiting for her take-out order. We seated ourselves, as our nice waitress handed us our menus. I went with the Daily Couple( ), which came with my choice of two meats and two sides. I went with the ribs and hot links and corn and potato salad. I prefer dry rub barbecue, so I liked how the barbecue sauce wasn’t infused into the meats. The ribs were very tender and the meat fell right off the bones. The hot links were a little too spicy for my liking, but they were really good. There wasn’t anything spectacular about the corn, but the potato salad was good. I like a little bit of crunch in my potato salad, which I got from every bite of celery or so. We also shared an order of hush puppies( ) and oh my goodness, they were so delicious! I’ve never had such delicious hush puppies before. The flavors were so unique, that it is hard for me to describe. All I can say is that they were so soft and rich tasting!

DONOTEATHERE… To be honest I didn’t either, but after waiting 45 minutes for our food in a mostly empty restaurant we gave up… And the worse part is they didn’t seem to care… They even got snippy about all the orders ahead of us(flat out not true)… Terrible, terrible service… Too bad considering the BBQ at least smelled good, but it certainly wasn’t worth the wait and the sour attitude. I’d heard about the slow service here, but wanted to give it a try just the same since I love me some BBQ, but sadly we found out the hard way the rumors were true. I can’t believe people put up with it(In the time we waited two big parties came in after us and I’m willing to bet their still waiting a week later). Anyway, try this place at your own risk. p. s. and just in case you think it was just us I counted three other parties that were becoming visibly annoyed at how long it was taking them to either get their food or for that matter get their check…

I was fiending for some bbq so decided to try this place out. I ordered the catfish and baby back pork ribs and my friend ordered brisket, hot links, and pulled pork. The cat fish was over fried, the pork ribs were not tender and very much overcooked at a high temp. The brisket was soso, hot links were good, and the pulled pork was soso. The main problem is they slather everything with way too much below average bbq sauce. Additionally the sides are of very poor quality; I ordered corn and instead of getting a cob I got a bowl of canned corn. Overall I was very disappointed with the quality of food. The place was also on the dirty side(and when I say dirty I really mean dirty, I use to live with 4 guys in college and this was dirtier than our house)

Was craving some yummy soul food and BBQ tonight, and came here after reading some pretty mouth watering reviews from Unilocalers. I’ve lived in DC for about a year, so I’ve had some super yummy soul food, so I had high hopes after reading the reviews. I must say I was a little disappointed after trying the food. We ordered the 3 meat plate which came with two sides; the meat of choice we got was Pork Ribs, Beef Brisket, and Pulled Pork(which a lot of review said was good). The sides we chose were green beans and baked bean, and since I was craving something sweet we also ordered the yam. Oh, we also got the Texas toast along with a extra order of cornbread. Lets see, where should I start… Pork Rib– Probably one of the best thing at the table. The meat was tender, fell right off the bone, and seasoned pretty good. Beef Brisket– wasn’t very good, the meat was tough and dry. Pulled Pork– Same as the beef brisket, maybe it was overcooked without anything covering it? Green Beans– tasted a little like frozen packaged ones… was just okay Baked Bean– pretty tasty, not too heavy Yam– was my favorite! It was sprinkled with Cinnamon and maybe sugar(?), but was deliciously sweet. Corn Bread– If you want something sweet like what I wanted, you would be disappointed. It was flaky and blah… Anyway, maybe it was just a slow night. But I’m giving it a 3-star because I don’t think I tried all the right things… I would go back there and try some other items next time.

Something you just can’t put your finger on it. Was it the Solomon sign told me we’re not eating fast food? Was it the big booths you can seat 8 people comfortably? Was it the hush puppies my friends couldn’t stop eating? Was it the chicken and links smothered in BBQ sauce? Was it the green bean and coleslaw and toast on the side? Was it the lady server who was more interested at texting her friends? Was it the 3 hours we spent there and no one else came in? Whatever it was, I bonded with my buds, I filled my belly, I was happy.

Damn the hush puppies. Fried balls of corn meal goodness – might as well put a «Caution: Wide Load» sign on my butt. We had the triple threat or whatever the three meat combo is called. Beef brisket was too dry, pulled pork was just right and hot links made little beads of sweat form along my brow. The sauce was just the right amount of tang, sweet and spicy – on the side because I have mad control issues and I need to be able to modulate my sauce to meat portion. Our chosen sides of potato salad and green beans were standard, but they didn’t mess that up so I’m not complaining. Corn bread wasn’t the moist buttery variety that I was used to at Gracie’s in Vallejo( ). Ambience was non existent, service is so-so; they were out of texas toast and the house made lemonade which didn’t put us in a great start. But I’m nothing if not forgiving. I’ll give this place another shot for the ribs and again those damn good hush puppies.

This is a 2 star place, earning a third star because of the hush puppies. The husband and I came in for a late saturday lunch, and there weren’t many people in the place. We missed the little pig chalkboard that said«please seat yourself»(i noticed it on our way out) so we wandered to the counter to place our order. Employee told us to be seated, then she sat down with us to take our order(HA, kinda funny when they do that…) The place really does look like a «southern diner» straight out the movies. Greasy, sticky seats and counter tops, the ladies with their hair wrapped up and the men wiping the grease onto their aprons as a sign of manliness achieved only in the kitchen. They’ve got hella signs by the counter and walls saying«King Solomon said good BBQ doesn’t come fast.» or something like that. who the hell is King Solomon(if not the guy in the Bible) and could one sign have sufficed? [hush puppies] a.k.a. fried corn bread GOOD first experience. flavorful and a nice snack. felt like i could drink some sweet tea with em [Two meat platter: pulled pork & pork ribs] both meats weren’t too fatty, and the sauce actually ruined the meal, instead of enhancing it. There was even a little spice to it. potato salad: gross. sweet and pureed. corn: decent [hot link sandwich] um, i coulda made that at home *hella beers offered* total $ 24 not bad, but not really worth it i left disappointed, and i even woke up the next day disappointed. not coming here again. unless there’s another pregnancy in the future and i get a weird craving for hush puppies.

We walked in this place and felt an immediate warmth, that downhome touch. Cool, central seating, bench style — ideal for watching the Lakers dominate. Ordered the combo plate, $ 15.95, my choices were BBQ chicken, hot links. Two sides: either, mashed potatoes, hush puppies or BBQ beans. I chose the BBQ beans and mashed potatoes, both very good. Alas, my chicken was a bit dry on the inside; the links were tastey, even though they were sliced for you. You get a fat sized piece of texas toast. My friend really liked the beef ribs. We also ordered some wonderful deep golden brown fried okra and their fries were second to none! I will return to ‘test’ their deep fried catfish, to see if it’s as good as Johnny Rebz in Long Beach. All in all, A-ok, if a bit overpirced.

It must have been serendipity. I was asked to judge a camera club competition in Fremont and the same week the Friday entertainment section in the West County Times wrote a glowing review for this restaurant that is far from their reader base. So I decided that I had to stop. Now, I admit that I pretty much make my decision on how good a BBQ pit is based on their hot links. My first question is, «Do you make your own». Some places have told me yes, and they don’t. Others have said. «Oh we have them custom made», if they did, Costco must use the same maker. There are a few places that in fact really make them; Southern Heritage is not one of them. They told me they came from Louisiana and that they were pretty good. They were right, they were pretty good not the best I have had, but I did like them. The other meat on my massive two meat combo plate was the smoked chicken fresh from the smoker. The meat was smoky, tender and juicy. With two meats there is a choice of two sides, I went with the potato salad; I thought it was great. I should have had double order. Because, although the cold slaw was good, the potato salad was better. I had more than enough leftovers to bring home and share. But, the food was so good I left it in my car overnight so i could have it all to myself for lunch Service was prompt and friendly

If we weren’t seated so dang close to our neighbors I would have licked my fingers & the sides of my mouth. Even the neatly wrapped BBQ sandos were finger-lickin’ good, I had the Beef Brisket: ~Perfect ratio of meat to sauce ~Bread reminiscent of a more plush hot dog bun ~Meat was tender & moist Side pick: Green Beans, just like the cafeteria used to make ‘em, okay, I like snappy veggies, yes, yes, this is SOUTHERN style. Service: EXCELLENT, friendly & efficient. Price: A bit on the higher end of a sando, $ 9.00 incl. tip & tax. Warning: Wear your scrubby clothes, you’ll smell like the kitchen @ meal’s end. Such a cozy nook of a family resto in Fremont. The patrons are pleasant, dining in was charming and I was happy with my experience.

Its been soooo long but my memories of this place are nothing but delicious! I remember finding this place by mistake and literally going nuts knowing there was a Soul Food in Fremont, and better yet decent food at that. Overall everything here I had was good. From the links, brisket, ribs, and to the greens and fired okra, I was overall happy.
