Closed. However, business changed back to Yoshinoya Beef Bowl!

Horrible. Always appears empty and rightfully so after trying the food. The décor is nice and very modern, but in the end, it’s still a Yoshinoya, it’s not like you’re going there for the décor anyways. They give you four different options(Platter, Bun, Soup, and Salad) and you basically can top it off with your choice of protein and sauce. I wanted to stay with the classic chicken bowl but even they found a way to ruin chicken, vegetables, and rice. This place adds pineapple(disgusting since it’s covered in the teriyaki sauce) and peppers(useless filler, no flavor at all), while only giving three to four small strips of meat. In the end, you’re basically getting nice décor, glass bowls, and nastier food. I guess if you’re into that, go for it. Otherwise save your money and go somewhere else.

We traveled 30 miles to get California roll and assumed that they served California roll(long story… a bit of not finding the restaurant… got lost… backed tracked…) When we arrived here, we thought this would be a good Yoshinoya restaurant, cause we thought it was more«fancy» than the typical one. We were very curious about this so this is the main reason why we went here. We came to only find that they did not serve California roll and our tragic adventure begins. Food: You pick a protein and sauce; then they will cook it for you. Cool concept right? Yeah, but you are eating frozen meat; whether it was chicken or fish, it was frozen and tasted like frozen(insert meat). Frozen meat tasted very very bland and very artificial. Even their«neon» veggies tasted different from the typical Yoshinoya places. Service: Eh, nothing to mention but seeing two of the cooks using cooking utensils to battle each other… Price: Average is $ 7+ Overall: No, I would never want to come here again. They had a gong and it says that if you were not fully satisfied, hit the gong. I actually wanted to.

I’d give a 0 if i could. The food here is terrible. What happened to the old, classic Yoshinoya from before? Their food was amazing before the place closed and then this new spot came around. I ordered the beef bowl and the gyozas, and here are my(negative) thoughts on the following: The beef bowl: I like the old Yoshinoya’s beef bowl much, much better. What they had was perfect. This? At Asiana Grill? It was just awful. I don’t remember the meat being so salty before… it was pretty disgusting. There was really no other flavor to the meat, it was terrible. Gyozas: These were pretty gross as well. They weren’t crunchy either like they should be. These were clearly just thrown into the microwave for several minutes. The filling didn’t taste all that great either. And what’s with the wanna-be soy sauce they serve with it? That tasted pretty funky. I really wasted my money and time here. The beef bowl was rather filling, but the fact that it tasted terrible just doesn’t help anything at all. The presentation of the food is nice and all; like someone said on here, Asiana Grill is like a fancy version of the original Yoshinoya. But at the end of the day, being able to have good, tasty food is all that matters to me, and unfortunately I didn’t receive that today at this restaurant.

Plus: friendly service, good drink selection(like the flavored waters and sweetened/unsweeteed green iced teas), concept of customizing meal Minus: food is ok, not bad, but not something you crave either. Service can be slow/spotty at times. The last time I came here I placed my order to go, and they botched my husband’s order. Bottom line: decent food when you just want a casual meal without waiting in line.

A friend and I were heading home after class and we decided to stop here to get some food after we were offered coupons for free wings. Thus, we decided on wings and beef bowls. They also have deep chocolate covered cheesecake though, and I am really excited to try it the next time I go back. The restaurant was really clean. It did take around 10 minutes to get our food when there were only a couple of other people dining there, but I’m chalking that up to the fact that they had recently opened. I really enjoyed my beef bowl. My only gripe was that I wished that there was more beef. The flavors were spot on though. I’m tempted to try the beef bowl with mushrooms next time because that too sounds like a great combination. Prices are pretty cheap, which is always a plus.

Well the place looks real nice. The food on the other hand is much better at normal Yoshinoya. I understand this is a concept store so obviously they are learning and trying to figure out what to do. The place is pretty fancy looking for a fast food restaurant but that is not saying much when the food is not that great. To walk you through this terribly complicated item list that is fast food restaurants Asiana Grill takes the In n Out route and tries to simplify it into 3 steps. 1) Start with one of their four styles 2) Fill it with your type of protein(meats) 3) Top it off with your choice of sauce Now the only problem is that none of the workers know which tastes better with which and there are no real recommendations on the menu which people might like. So I just paired up some random concoction and my Japanese friend got something which he said offended his taste senses. All in all not recommended. I prefer regular Yoshinoya and the yaki udon beef bowl.

Not even sure about the concept of this restaurant. I like Yoshinoya because it’s cheap in quality and price. I like the low grade beef bowls. Quick and easy. This place is a fancy version of Yoshinoya with different set of nicer looking and healthier menu with LCD-screen menus. I’m not one who likes change so I just went with the original beef bowl. Sure, it tastes the same, but the price was much more expensive and less amount of food, all this for a glass bowl?! I came with a big group, and my friend waited over an hour for his chicken platter. Unacceptable!

So 6 years ago I moved out of Southern California and one of the first places I hit whenever I visit is Yoshinoya. Imagine my surprise when recently I returned and found the new«Asiana» brand. I only had one relevant question: had they preserved the beef bowl that had made them famous and had captured my taste buds so long ago? The answer, thankfully, yes. The rest of the concept I chalk up to the success of Chipotle defining the«fast casual» space. I think it works and I hope it lasts — but mostly because I can’t bear to not have Yoshinoya when I visit SoCal.

I really dig Yoshinoya back during the high school days. I remembered as a Senior, all the cool kids dined at Yoshinoya(a different location) for lunch. Fast forward a few years when I went to UC Riverside, I remembered there were buy one get one free coupons. Guess what I had for lunch? Beef bowl. Guess what I had for dinner? Beef bowl. Guess what I had for breakfast the morning after? You guessed it, Beef bowl. The freshman 15 couldn’t come early enough for me, that’s for sure. Fast forward… O…a lot more years and I had gone to graduate school in Fullerton. I remembered passing by Yoshinoya but never had the time to come inside. But I imagined it looks like any Yoshinoya, with minimal décor, their awesome ginger in a jar, and the sprinkling of the 7 spices by the counter. So guess what? I had the opportunity to dine here the other day, compliments of Yoshinoya from a contest I won. Nothing beats free, ya know? I was kind of excited to come inside. Upon entry on the menu board, it looks really complicated. You might need a PhD in molecular gastronomy to figure out how to read the board. Then I was redirected by the cashier on the simple one page menu that basically states: 1) Pick a entrée style(Platter, Soup, Salad, Bun) 2) Pick a protein style(Beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, white fish, tofu) 3) Pick a sauce(Teriyaki, sweet & sour, ginger snap, ponzu, gekikara, mushroom) Scratch that, it actually was quite easy to pick out the food. I believe the price was $ 8.79 normally if you had choose the platter. Prices are cheaper for the other type of entrees. While waiting, I checked out the décor. If you had ever gone to Veggie grille with their signature green and orange décor(which is mostly Orange), think of the place as mostly Green. That’s the best I can describe this place. The green splash is everywhere, I am not sure if they are trying to entice«health» and«green» within the same building. After 10 minutes or so, my entrees were ready. I went and got the entrees. 1 entrée per plate. I did notice these platters were kind of shaky when there is food on it. Note to people who wants to try carrying 2 entrees with 2 hands, don’t do it! My almost fell off. Your platter will be spinning 360s in no time. As for the taste of the food, it is good, quite simple. As a matter of fact, it tasted too simple for me. The chicken, well, just tasted like chicken. It’s not marinated chicken like the good old Yoshinoya days. It’s not extra sauce coated everywhere, its now more like drizzle of sauce here. The side salad and the big scoop of rice finishes the whole meal. I do love the ginger they add onto the food. It’s the same pink ginger you find from the Yoshinoya days. Oh, the gekikara sauce we didn’t have as a meal but we did try it. It is a ginger sauce with a kick. I liked it, but we couldn’t get it because I had little ones with me. The mushroom sauce, I don’t taste the«enoki» and«shiitake» in here, I had it with the steak protein. It has the consistency of a teriyaki sauce. If you got a soda, there is a green tea option. It’s not bad as a green tea, I prefer the ones with the«Matcha» taste. But I do like this option. The water can be hard to find, it is in the middle of the sodas. Look for the Blue label. I am grateful for my free meals here. They were healthy and yummy. The service here was good for a order at a counter type eatery. I think the food can be worked a bit to fit the healthy image Yoshinoya is trying to portray. For the price, there are lots of other choices in the area. I was too, a starving student going to CSUF at one time. I don’t think I would be able to afford this place if I was currently on campus. I also do wish they can give customers a choice of the old Yoshinoya menu. Maybe just the chicken and beef? Like the combo bowl from back in the days? That would entice me to go, but then again, it wouldn’t fit the healthy image they are trying to portray as a «grille» eatery.

Thank goodness they still have the regular beef bowl here, otherwise I would never step foot inside this place again. The beef bowl still tastes the same, but now I have to ask for ginger and red pepper, and I love the ginger and pepper here, so it’s kinda embarrassing for me to keep saying, uh can I have some more please? Anyway, walking up into this place, you’ll notice it’s got a major makeover a la Sansai(ugly IMO). You now choose what style meal you want, what protein, and what sauce. I just wanted a beef bowl, but as I ordered the girl working the register gave me a sample of their pineapple chicken. Yuck. Even though it was drenched in sauce, the meat was flavorless and dry. I literally chewed that tiny piece of chicken for about 30 secs. I wanted to spit it out but man that would have just been flat out rude. I managed to swallow and hold it down and ordered my beef bowl and a small order of shrimp tempura. I was asked what sauce I wanted with my tempura. Uh tempura sauce. «We don’t have that.» –__– She then goes on to list like 6 different sauces really fast and all I caught that didn’t sound gross was the ginger. I ordered that, and guess what, it was gross. Good thing I got some of the«spicy yuzu sauce» at the beverage area. I use quotes bc it tastes nothing of yuzu and it’s not really spicy, but it tasted better than the ginger sauce. On my way out I noticed the HUGE sign that lists all the sauces they have and the description. Doh! Doesn’t matter anyway, bc the shrimp tempura was nasty. The shrimp was not plump or juicy. In fact they kind of were soft and powdery and disintegrated in my mouth, like they were old or something. The batter was fine, a little greasy but crunchy. But the shrimp inside, yuck! IF I come back here, it’s bc I’m really REALLY craving a beef bowl. Otherwise I’ll just go to Orange where I can get all the ginger and red pepper I want.

Its not bad food. Its kinda expensive, for a steak plate, for $ 9. no drinks. Lots of rice, not much meat. I think i would rather have original Yoshinoya. Ponzu was a good sauce, also tried terriyaki, nothing different… its a place i wouldnt crave for but will certainly go back to try all the sauces…

Came here after a show at the Plummer Auditorium. My husband looooooves Yoshinoya and their Beef Bowls. He says you can’t get any kind of beef bowls like Yoshinoya’s. The beef is so thinly sliced and he loves the flavor. It’s true I have yet to eat a bowl with beef as thinly sliced as their bowl. We were disappointed to not see the big olé Yoshinoya sign that is usually here. We thought it was gone. BUT, the Asiana Grill had a tiny little Yoshinoya sign underneath. Could it be? Could they still serve our beloved beef bowl? Yes! BTW we live in Temecula… no Yoshinoya within 40 miles from where we live. So it’s like a revamped Yoshinoya. They have more variety. But we knew what we wanted. I also got the shrimp tempura, which you just can’t go wrong with that. But really the surprise hit for me was their Sweetened Green Ice Tea! OMG! It is so stinking good, Nestea can suck it because their iced green tea is ass. I didn’t take note on what kind of green tea this place had, but it tasted like green tea ice cream, but not creamy if that makes sense. This was the highlight of my visit. I dream of it now. I want this fountain drink in my office stat!

They should have left well enough alone and kept the old Yoshinoya Beef Bowl the way it was… or at the very least kept everything from the old menu as an option. Now they are basically making everyone in the immediate area have to drive to Rowland Heights or Orange for anything on the old menu, because guess what, you can’t get that here. Sure, they still have the original beef bowl, but what about the people like me who want an original chicken bowl or combo bowl? We’re left scratching our heads trying to find something on the style/protein/sauce menu that you can pretty much get better and CHEAPER at Flame Broiler or Waba. We tried the big platter with teriyaki chicken and it was sooo dry and overcooked. The steak big platter was ok, but a little overcooked as well. That’s not cool when you’re paying 7 – 9 dollars a dish. Brown rice is extra? That’s included at some of the other places. The chocolate covered cheesecake was like 2 big bites for $ 4. What a rip. I really wanted to like this place, but honestly, it was seriously just A-OK for the price. I will definitely make the drive to the regular Yoshinoya locations before I come back here again.

I’m usually not one too impressed with fast food type establishments but it’s all good here. For the ~$ 7 you pay, you can get reasonably healthy food(grilled white fish, brown rice, steamed veggies) and a good portion of it too! Don’t come expecting the exact same Yoshinoya. It’s NOT Yoshinoya. It’s better, if you are willing to let go of the idea of it being the same place.

Apparently there are only TWO of these Asiana Grill Yoshinoya restaurants at the moment, Fullerton and by USC in LA. This used to be a classic Yoshinoya, but it got renovated into the Asiana Grill. The only thing original is the Beef Bowl… They server it to you in a real bowl, not a Styrofoam bowl. The décor looks very Pink Berry-ish. You are greeted by friendly workers upon entering, and they even serve beer. Mix and match the type of dish you want, with sauces and choice of meat. A fancy twist on the whole Yoshinoya menu. I would have loved it even more if they still sold the classic teriyaki chicken bowl or even combo bowl. The big plate is what we opted for, I got the teriyaki chicken w/steam rice and my fiancée got the white fish w/sweet and sour sauce. The big plate comes with a salad + steamed vegetables + meat of choice/sauce + rice or noodles. For about $ 8 or so, not too bad, pretty filling. The lightly sweetened green ice tea is refreshing too.

First time here. and to me it tasted the same as the old yoshinoya but with more variety to choose from and you have more option. You could order your meal as: plate, salad, soup, or sandwich. I recommend trying as much as you can before reviewing. As for me, this is not my final review. I tried their big platter with medium rare charbroiled steak + brown rice 0.69c + terriyaki sauce + shitake mushrooms + salad + more veggies. It just recently opened so the staff here were very welcoming and nice. The place is modern style asian and clean. Definitely will try to go back to update this review.

Wow, reviews have not been kind to this new concept store by Yoshinoya. This is the 1st prototype of Asiana Grill and the future is not that bright unless things start improving. Honestly, the main issue is that people expect the Beef Bowl we’ve known for eons because of Yoshinoya is still in the name and are disappointed and confused when they don’t find the dishes they’re accustomed to. I think the only carryover is the original beef bowl and chicken wings. Also, Yoshinoya customer base are probably not ideal customers for a healthy premium fast food joint. As for the food, not bad at all. The food was fresh and portions were sufficient, even for me. We’ll be definitely coming back to try out the many different options of proteins and meals(such as stir fry, soup, salad, sandwich).

It seems like Yoshinoya is trying to play catch-up with the current market trend of healthier offerings. For those used to the traditional pick your bowl and meat will get confused at all the dizzying combinations that are possible. It has actually become somewhat of an industry standard now — you can provide what seems like a huge variety, using the same base ingredients. If you have ever been to Sansai, it is much like how you would order there sans sushi. The best way to describe Asiana grill is Sansai meets Pink Berry. A couple of improvements on the old Yoshinoya brand. Dining area is updated and much cleaner. A much more diverse selection of offerings is available, and meat actually looks like meat. The vegetables have the shit cooked out of them completely devoid of any flavor — just like the original, but no more mystery gravy. Some of the other changes that may not be so welcome is that they no longer have the red pepper condiment. The only thing available is a horrid yuzu sauce that looks like something from the Exorcist. Ordering consists of 3 simple steps: Pick your style: Big Platter — comes with steamed vegetables salad, and choice of white rice, brown rice, udon noodles, or stir friend udon noodles Soup — lightly sweet shiromiso base with your choice of grilled rice cake, udon or grilled udon Super Salad — romaine spring salad with grilled rice wedges and sesame miso dressing Great Yellow Bun — served with Asian cabbage salad and sweet potato fries Choose your protein: charbroiled steak charbroiled chicken breast grilled chicken thigh charbroiled pork grilled shrimp grilled white fish grilled tofu Pick your sauce: teriyaki sweet a sour ginger snap ponzo gekikara — spicy ginger soy base mushroom All in all, I like Asian Grill better than the old Yoshinoya just because I can now recognize the meat. Their selections are better, but portions seem smaller. But then again, I do not normally go to Yoshinoya. I think that old Yoshinoya customer base will probably not be so receptive b/c it is so different from the original. Only time will tell.

I miss the original chicken bowl, but it’s an interesting concept. Imagine a Chipotle of Japanese teppanyaki food. You can choose your protein and the style you want it prepared. Plate, salad, soup, or bun. Then you choose the sauce and then grub. They grill so everything has a nice charred taste in a very good way. I do miss the old Yoshinoya because everything here is around $ 7-$ 8. Lunch is getting more expensive these days. As a throwback, I got an original beef bowl but added grilled asparagus and shiitake mushrooms. They sang me a song for customizing my order. Very weird but kind of charming. They were really into it so it wasn’t that awkward. I can’t wait to try the other items.
