It’s not as good as BonJuk in LA… Even the side dishes… I’m disappointed and will not be returning.

I crave this on a cold day and especially when I’m feeling a little under the weather. This is the perfect meal to make you feel all better. Food: Seafood combination porridge — good amount of seafood and flavor. It’s not as bland as I expected it to be. Abalone porridge — classic. Pumpkin porridge — this is more like a dessert because it’s on a sweeter side. But I love this! Service: Slow!!! BUT, it was only husband and wife working so it’s understandable. They were friendly as well.

Sorry, I love porridge but Bön Juk did not impress me. I know this is a well known porridge chain from Korea but according to my friend, the porridge here tastes nothing like Bön Juk in Korea. I got the abalone porridge and was rather annoyed at the amount of mushrooms in it. I think they should call it mushroom porridge instead of abalone porridge. The worst thing is that the pieces of mushroom look similar to abalone and every spoonful, I would be praying to get a piece of abalone instead of mushroom but most times didn’t. Also tried the samgae(chicken ginseng) porridge and that was actually better than mine. But it was lacking anything ginseng or herbal, as the menu stated. Basically, we got shorted our ginseng… Hey at least couple banchans were decent. Good jangjorim and the(diced) jutgal. Putting them on top of each spoonful of porridge made it more palatable. The cold soup and kimchi were pretty forgettable though. I would honestly much rather go eat porridge elsewhere, especially for abalone porridge. I usually like abalone porridge form most places so this was unexpected. Heck I would pay 1⁄3 the price to eat chao from Westminster. 2.5 stars for Bön Juk!

Looking for love from your sick family member or friends? Delivering any of these juks will get you that. Not only are they nutritious, they sit well for ill stomachs. I live in Norwalk but make my way down to Fullerton just for this. I call and place a take out order with estimated time of arrival. As for the price– I really believe it’s worth it. I considered the ingredients and time it would take to prepare– according to my cost/benefit analysis, I’d give this place a 9.6 out of 10. Side dishes they give you with your take out is glorious! Enjoy.

Pumpkin porridge at market doesn’t taste like the one here. Home made doesn’t turn out like here either. My daughter loves pumpkin porridge and she loves this place. Our family’s favorite place when sick or not.

Awesome, we come here every time we’re in Fullerton. You can call ahead so your food is ready when you arrive. Great food takes time!

If you’ve been to the Bön Juk in LA, this will be a big let down. We live closer to this location than the one in LA, so we decided to try this location over the weekend. Kimchee… was one of the worst we had. Dong chi-mee was mind numbingly bland and lukewarm. The worst! Yak!

Delicious Juk that can be picked up in minutes… like 15 – 20 minutes… BUTREALLY quality Juk like grandma/mom makes? I have been here multiple times over the years, and I must say they know what they’re doing. Favorites include: Abalone, ginseng-chicken, beef and mushroom, and octopus and kimchi. I have both phoned in my orders and eaten at the restaurant. The staff there is very friendly! It is a little on the pricier end, but not having to prepare it myself makes it TOTALLY worth it.

Quality has gone down since the beginning. It’s not like you can really go wrong with this type of soup, but when I first tried it I thought it tasted a lot different from everywhere else. Now it feels like I could just go to the supermarket and get it instead…

We came here on Monday 11÷06÷14 on 7:55pm and the restaurant is already closed. Unilocal and the sign on the restaurant window both stated they open till 8:30pm. We are very disappointed especially after the 30mins driving.

Clean restaurant. Ample parking. Tried the abalone, pumpkin, and seafood. All taste great. Nothing amazing but it is good porridge. A bit pricey but not ridiculous.

I had a good experience here; it was quiet and the food was pretty darn good. It was kind of like that ratatouille experience, having something mom used to make at a restaurant. There’s only juk on the menu(rice cooked with excess water till it’s like a porridge consistency), good to keep that in mind. Should be great to eat on an upset stomach or things like that!

For juk(Korean rice porridge) this place is pretty bomb… Maybe that’s the reason this place is a huge chain in Korea… My favorite is the chicken juk w veggies. Love it! I’ve also tried their abalone and regular veggie juk. Which were both great. But I’ve had better abalone juk but that was in Jeju so I might just be biased. I love their small side dishes as well. Yum! I definitely recommend if you are looking for juk.

Here is a Korean traditional porridge restaurant! They have only porridge! This place is very clean, peaceful, and relax! Food is really simple, too! I ordered Octopus with Kimchi Porridge, which is spicy kimchi cooked with octopus! Owner said, it helps digestion and good for recovery from illness! ! I love it very much, maybe I come from Taiwan!!! There are 14 different porridge on the menu! Sweet pumpkin porridge looks good too, it’s good for beauty and aging care! I order it to go!

When it’s cold outside and I want something that’s easy on the stomach there’s nothing that speaks to me like home like rice porridge. Korean porridge is slightly different in flavor from the rice porridge I grew up with, but very tasty nonetheless. This spot is in in a quiet, hidden shopping area in Fullerton. The only thing they serve here is rice porridge so if you were looking to eat something else, you are out of luck. The place was empty when we went in near closing time, but the owner quickly helped us. Prices are a little mid to high range depending what you order, but considering the amount you get it’s not too bad. The only small suggestion I have is to beef up the amount of side dishes. Even though the owner was very nice in refilling our sides of kimchi and jangjorim(salted beef) the portion is literally like a tablespoon of each. By the way, for the Water Kimchi you just drink it and enjoy the pickled radish at the bottom. It’s not meant for mixing or anything. I ordered the Octopus and Kimchi Jook and my husband ordered the beef and mushroom. While I enjoyed my jook, I liked the clean flavors of beef and mushroom better. The place is very clean and I will definitely be back to enjoy some warm jook during winter for this little hidden gem!

Wow, who knew that there are restaurant(s) that specialize in jook(rice pordige)? I didn’t that’s for sure. I’ve been very ill recently and have had a difficult time chewing and swallowing. As a result I haven’t been eating and thus getting weaker and weaker. This is exactly what I needed! THANKYOU! 1. Clean 2. Very friendly, prompt, and nice service 3. Great fresh ban-chan 4. All jook… they specialize! 5. Very reasonable prices! 6. Fresh and tasty 7. BONUS = They actually have the correct«to-go» containers. Most places have the foam container w/plastic lid. The problem is the lid slips off. They use plastic containers and lids here and it is VERY secure!!! Awesome! :)

I had never heard of juk before I searched Unilocal and came across Bön Juk. Juk is a nutritious porridge with a mellow flavor. It is the Korean answer to white folks’ chicken noodle and it is yummy. It is accompanied by three salty/flavorful sides, one of which being kimchi, another being some super salty beef, and the other being some other salty vegetable. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I asked if I was supposed to mix it. NO. Don’t mix it! You spoon the porridge and then you eat a little bit of a side. While I don’t have any other juk to compare it to, I thought my service was friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my meal. They have at least ten types of juk, most of which will set you back $ 6 – 13. The abalone one was around $ 27. Holy carp! Good thing my allergy prohibits me from wanting to try it. I’m just happy I have another«sick day» food in my arsenal to make me feel better.

My first impression was, «Nothing like juk on a cold winter day.» JUK is a Korean rice porridge that is popular in a lot of Asian countries. It’s usually eaten when one is sick and not feeling well because its easy to digest. Korean kids grow up eating juk for treating every stomach ache and sickness. Bön Juk Restaurant did a good job re-creating the traditional juk, which is usually plain with a bunch of other hearty ingredients like beef, mushrooms, oysters, vegetables, abalone, beans, ginseng, chicken, squash, and many other styles of this popular Korean comfort food. They have an extensive menu. Your bowl of juk is served with some salty sides to balance out the light yet hearty flavors of the juk. The service was good, the place was clean and simple, and its a place I’d return to on a sick day, or just a cold day when I want some comfort food. The lasting impression? «Yay for more cold weather, because that means more soups, stews, and slurps!»

I wasn’t feeling well today and was craving some Korean jook so I Unilocaled it and found this place and thank God. This was just perfect. All they serve is jook. And all sort of different kinds too. The jook is really good. Savory and flavorful and not greasy or oily. Just right. Oh, and it’s piping hot so be careful. They give you a serving bowl so that it’s easier to eat. I went around 9:30am and place wasn’t busy at all, probably because they just opened. They did seem busy though fulfilling orders. Turns out a ton of people order the jook to go. When you order the jook to go, you have to take the large size. They don’t let you order the regular size to go. And it’s a pretty big bowl. The banchan was very simple but just right. Two types of kimchi(finely chopped) and marinated shredded beef(I think that’s what it is). Service was great and the waitress there was very helpful. The only thing that really turned me off to this place was that they played KIISFM and I had to suffer through a Ke$ha song for an entire 4 minutes. I will never get those 4 minutes of hell back but needless to say, I survived. Next time I go, I’ll either wear headphones and listen to my own music(most likely a recording of me just screaming the entire time) or ask them to change the station. Parking: Plenty Price: $ 8-$ 13 per person(unless you get the Abalone Special which is $ 27 per bowl) Wait: 10 – 15 mins for your order to come out.

If you want a whole lot of variety of food choices, this place isn’t for you. There’s a reason why people like coming here for their jook. They specialize in JOOK. That’s it. You can order a medium or large where the price difference is like $ 3-$ 4. For what you pay, the quality of jook you get is better than any where else even in Koreatown. Don’t expect anything else on their menu. You get a bowl of jook with three side dishes. Period. Very simple yet very yummy! Being a jook lover 365 days, this place does cook up some quality jook. Some people might only eat this when they are sick or just had dental work done. I on the other hand had always loved eating jook more than eating plain rice. Maybe that’s why the thought of eating a whole bowl of just jook with three side dishes doesn’t bore me. Healthy and filling! Choose from a wide range of varieties from sweet to savory!
