Reasonably priced. Good. Selection covers every taste of the pallet.

Sushi was ok… But NOBEER!!! Waitress said the restaurant was changing owners and they had to renew the alcohol license. Hopefully they will up their game soon and improve upon other beefs from Unilocalers.

Pretty descent place. Not to die for. Only thing I loved was that the Miso Soup was $ 2.50 for a big bowl. Other then that, felt a little pricy for 2 little pieces of sushi.

Mal servicio, el lugar estaba vacío y la mesera solo nos llevo a la mensa y tardo mucho en regresar a tomar la orden.

I really want to give this place more stars because of all the vegetarian options they have. Im vegan so I’m so grateful that they have so many options, but the service is just SO bad. The first time I went was the only time that the service was actually good. I ordered avocado rolls which was no big deal and everything went smoothly. Now every time I go and order avocado rolls, the waitress looks at me confused and says she’ll have to ask to see if it’s possible. I’m just thinking to myself, «it’s avocado, seaweed, and rice.» How hard can it be? Ring me up for a cucumber roll and were good! Last time we were there, we ordered 3 things and it took an hour(for real though we timed it because we were on our lunch break) to even get the food out. There were only about 3 customers too. Each roll is only 2 cut rolls for $ 2.50, how does it take an hour to make 3 rolls when it’s only 2 cut rolls per order? When you add it all up, it’s basically one roll. During the hour of waiting they came back like 15 minutes later saying they were out of asparagus(they’re ALWAYS out of it, like 9 times out of 10 they’re out of asparagus, who’s in charge of inventory? They’re not doing a very good job) so I ordered something else. Then another 15 minutes passes and they come back saying«we got the asparagus in do you want your original roll?» And I’m just sitting there wondering why they haven’t made ANYTHING else that we ordered yet? Like I don’t give a shit what it is just make it and bring it out so I can bail, I’m on a lunch break and I work! This type of place is supposed to be fast pace. If I wanted a 4 hour dining experience I would rather it not be on my lunch and Id rather it be because that’s the way the dining experience is meant to be, not because the place is unorganized and the waitresses are poorly trained. After a full hour of waiting we let them know we needed to just bag it up to go since our lunch had ended. Then once they bagged it up the cash register wasn’t working. The waitress was asking who i’m assuming is the owner(older Asian dude that makes the sushi) how to fix it and she was visibly frustrated that he didn’t know how to use his own POS system. He didn’t even understand how you input orders. The waitresses are poorly trained because the owner really has no clue how to run a business he’s just good at making sushi. He should really hire a manager that is experienced in the restaurant industry because their food is awesome. But the only good experience I’ve had here is my first time. Other than that it’s always slow and mistakes are made. I really hope this place makes it, but I don’t see them lasting very long unless they hire someone with restaurant experience. It’s a bummer because I work right by here and it’s perfect for a lunch break if the timing is on point. I’ll give them another couple tries and update this if it gets better.

I’ve eaten here once before and had a wonderful experience, but this time was a disaster. I had ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl, which I was told they were out if regular white rice, so instead I got sushi rice as an alternative. The food came at an extremely slow pace. So in the meantime I had gotten some Snow Crab Sushi of the revolving belt. To my horror the crab was extremely smelly, wet, and tasted terrible. Like it had been left out for too long. And it had been. They don’t take the old sushi off the belt. I figured that the teriyaki chicken bowl would be as good as it was last time I had gotten it, I was wrong. The outside was nice and golden, but the inside was RAW. I had eaten three pieces before I noticed, I had it sent back, not wanting a new one, but got one anyway. It was the same one I had sent back, but recooked to «well-done.» More like cooked until it was a chicken brick. But on the bright side the waitress that served us was extremely nice and cheerful!

Arrived 430 pm. «We are closed until 5 pm.» Waited outside and came back at 5. The place is dimly lit and horribly HOT and uncomfortable inside. We should’ve bailed but we stayed. We would like chicken katsu please. «We only serve that until 3pm.» A spam roll? «We are out of spam.» Ordered tempura items and sushi. Tempura was soggy and flavorless. Sushi was pretty weak and quite bland. The server knows nothing about the foods on the menu. $ 23 was our total. We paid it, then went to go eat(again) across the street at Roma’s, the babyback rib restaurant. LOL Anyhow, we wouldn’t eat at Gattan ever again, not even on a dare. Maybe the word«Gattan» is Japanese for«terrible experience.» That would explain a lot.

I like this store!!! First point, all sushi just $ 2.5 for one plate!!! Especially, i am an asian. I miss japanese dishes for a long time. This store make it!!! All salmon and tuna rolls taste delicious. I like seared salmon and some special roll with salmon and avocado! So fresh and delicious. Everyday has two kinds of daily special is also recommended!!! The bowl of salmon is $ 4, but too much rice… there just have four pieces of salmon but a big bowl of rice… Do not recommend!!! And if you order hot tea is one per cup.(tea suppose to be free, isnt it?) If you want a soup, you can order seaweed miso! Its good!!! To conclude, i ate this three times a week! I travel here! And here is the best place to eat sushi!!! Only sushi hahaha

I absolutely LOVE their salmon! …hence the 5 stars! This is my new favorite sushi spot after Orange Roll & Sushi. Service was decent. Did I mention their salmon rolls were amazing? Whenever I go there, I get salmon everything — mayo, sashimi style, miso seared, salsa, or otoro(fatty) salmon. Yum! I love how I can pay $ 2.50 and eat many different types of sushi! Rather than paying $ 8-$ 14 for 8−1o pieces of the same sushi roll. Also, their lunch special is also pretty cheap for what you get! For $ 6.50, we got an udon, salmon tempura(yes, that’s right! salmon tempura, not the expected vegetable tempura), along with 4 pieces of salmon sushi! Anyway, I decided to write a review because I feel this place is too underrated. Conveyor belts with amazingly fresh melt-in-yo-mouth salmon? C’mon! I’m drooling already…

Their prices are very cheap and the food is delicious but I don’t know how I feel about the little track that is constantly moving. Their is fish out and not sure how long it’s been sitting out. They have a good veggie menu though and I’ve tried everything on it and they’re all amazing!

Soggy rolls, too much rice, too little fish and too little flavor. I’ve been here a few times now and I can say that there is a reason this place can get pretty empty on week days. Only went here because its close to our office. 1. The Fish The fish can be flavorful at times, its very hard to get bad salmon. However the flavor is easily ruined by the massive ball of soggy rice they put beneath it and the cuts can be quite thin though looking full from the right angle. From what I’ve seen here they use a mix of real tuna as well as that fake, dyed pink garbage tuna you get served at all you can eat places. Again any hint of flavor is over powered by their cheap rice. Most of the other fish they serve here is either covered in spices, onions or green pepper paste. The flavor of these additives over powers anything else and in my opinion is probably designed to cover the taste of old or low quality fish. It’s hard to see a restaurant that serves yellow tail, sea bass and red snapper nigiri for $ 2.50 unless its either low quality fish or extremely thinly cut. In Gattens case maybe both. 2. Service In my experience service is decent. The place is massive so its understandable that servers might take a while to attend to any needs we may have but it is a little annoying that due to the semi circle shape of the restaurant, the tables at the end are out of sight of the waiters and chefs. But they are usually friendly and happy which is always a plus. Never dealt with any terrible fish or had any hairs so I haven’t had experience with their customer service complaints. 3. Conclusion You shouldn’t expect much from a revolving sushi place. The fish quality is bad, selection is limited and they ruin some of the more exotic fish by adding peppers or spices or onions. The $ 2.50 per plate might sound like a great deal but you’re paying for mostly rice and not a lot of fish. So if you want to get seriously ripped off or leave hungry then feel free to give your money to this place.

Sushi chefs were really accommodating — Lobster handroll $ 1.50 on wednesday = pretty good & big — Niku udon — Fatty beef soup, it was good but kind of salty — taco roll = different and good! — karaage chicken = decent

I had a terrible experience here a while back. Found hair in my roll and brought it to the waiters attention. Nothing was done if anything they made me feel like it was mine when the chef had no hair net and had hair in his face. Would not recommend this location.

Our go to sushi belt is Kula at Brea mall because it is so close to our house. I categorize sushi bar and sushi belt in two separate categories. We go to sushi belt when we just want to eat light but have cravings for sushi. Yesterday, it was that kind of night. We didn’t want to go to Kula because the mall would be super crowded because of the last mins. X’s mas shoppers. I remembered I bookmarked Gatten sushi a while ago. Because it has three stars rating, I was a little hesitant. It didn’t stop me last night as we’ve been kinda questioning Unilocalers’ rating lately. Kula has 3 stars too and I don’t disagree with it. We were just expecting the same level as Kura from Gatten. $ 2.50 per plate at Gatten so it is .25 cents higher than Kula Not a biggie. Pros: A lot more variety of sushi than Kula. Shime saba, Akagai, Hokkigai, Kanpyou… They even have Natto! 5 shrimp tempura for $ 3.50? Good price. A lot more variety of non-sushi items for non-sushi eaters. Sushi size bigger than Kula. Rice is better than Kula. Sapporo draft for me.(This is a big plus. Draft tastes 10 times better.) Ramune for my daughter.
Cons: distance from my house.(but not too bad) At Kula, they don’t have too many variety of fish but more rolls with mayo going around on the belt. We don’t care for the rolls with a lot of mayo and spicy sauce toppings so Gatten sushi was pleasant surprise. We wanted to have a light dinner but we ended up eating a lot! Definitely, going back when we feel like sushi belt.

I only come here if I’m in a hurry and I have a huge craving for sushi when I’m at work. They don’t get a lot of people here so I don’t know how often they stock up on the belt. Sometimes it’s pretty empty and you have to start ordering. Staff is very attentive plus they have a button for me to call on them which is very helpful. Sushi is ehh. The cuts aren’t perfect and it looks like they got butchered. A lot of their sushi was comprised of a lot of mayo, imitation crap or very deep fried. This place is more like a last resort for me. I would recommend just getting a bowl.

What goes up must go down. Except for prices; they only go up. How come there’s «inflation» but never«deflation»? The $ 2 price tag use to be standard for conveyor belt sushi, but I guess $ 2.50 is the magic number now. As with any«pick-it-yourself» setup, you’re bound to pick something yourself that tastes disgusting and then blame yourself for picking it. To help you avoid this, I will paraphrase George Bush Sr., «Read my tips.» 1. Go for the Salmon if you don’t want to experiment. Whether plain on rice or dressed with with mayo, jalapeño, or even salsa, the salmon nigiri here is flìppin’ fresh. 2. Avoid the Tuna unless you can’t live without it. The seared peppered tuna had a mushy texture and the spicy tuna cut roll was overly spiced, making me wonder if they’re masking some other taste. 3. Stick to the sea creatures. Well, it’s a sushi bar after all, but I was tempted by the Beef Tataki which ended up being a tough, unsavory cut of cow. 4. Be adventurous if you can afford to! They have some unusual dishes here like Geoduck or Raw Oyster Nigiri, and this is an affordable way to try a sample. These types of revolving sushi bars are a hit-and-miss, not to mention a possible health risk, but it’s hard to resist the fun idea of dead raw fish swimming right up to your table on a stream of mechanically moving metal while offering its flesh to you. It’s almost poetic in a morbid way. The dishes at Gatten Sushi seemed fresh, the metal stream is fully loaded with variety, and the choices are more interesting than some other similar places. As I watched the raw oyster nigiri go by 3 times, wondering how many other times it had gone by before I arrived, I had visions of throwing up violently and being hospitalized for food poisoning. I grabbed it anyway and ate it anyhow, and all is well. Did I mention it was delicious?

— Locale Destination — ****** Sad News ****** This location no longer offers 9pm to closing happy hour deal as of June 2nd. ;( Rowland heights location still offers the deal ;) Now they have $ 2⁄3 sushi, which is still a good deal. Sushi looks better and slightly bigger than the one at Rowland heights location. But sushi size got smaller now. Sushi chefs here are clearly better than the ones at Rowland Heights location. — Gluttony Expedition — Takoyaki: $ 3 is cheap yet lukewarm… OK. Good: white tuna, seared salmon OK: engawa, uni, sea bass — Conqueror’s Deduction — Without the amazing 50% off deal, this place is no longer our quick go-to sushi place. Sushi is still cheap and decent. Better than the one at Rowland Heights location. But Rowland Heights location still has the similar quality sushi, the same old and bigger menu and 50% off happy hour… Sad ;(

As of June 2nd, 201450% Happy Hour from 9pm-close has been removed. The name has also been changed to Gatten Junior instead of Gatten Sushi. This info came from the sign posted on the front door. Arrived on a Mon night. The place was ¼ full with 2 servers and 3 sushi chefs. We had become regulars with the ½ off Happy Hour promo for the last few months. All conveyor items are $ 2 and fried items $ 3. We tried the Rainbow, California, Baked scallop, baked crab, spider and Tiger roll. Not sure if this place is struggling but with the Happy Hour being removed and the quality of there rolls, this place has gone downhill. The rotating sushi bar in Main Place mall has more options with the same price. Better off driving to that place. Two stars

So torn on this one… Service was so sweet and attentive! Announced to the chefs when I walked in, announced the the chefs when I was walking out –fun. My cup was never empty(hot green tea was perfect temperature too) and Aaron was a great server. A-Ok for the sushi options, portions and quality. I LOVE sushi and only because I know what I like is why am going with a 3 star. It’s not superb but it’s definitely not chum. They have really great lunch specials too and offer a Happy Hour :) you know how I feel about happy hour!

My bf and I came here on the whim because we were just getting into Cali from Houston. I was skeptical coming here because of it being only 3 stars but decided to try anyway. To my surprise, the place had the sushi plates on a conveyer belt and that is the first for me. I really liked the concept of that because 1) you can sit at the bar and grab it 2) you can eat a variety of dishes 3) you also know how much each dish was by the color of the plate. We tried several dishes because we were so hungry! We tried the eggrolls(after reading the sign please try me haha I felt like Alice in wonderland grabbing it without thinking. It wasn’t any different from any other asian eggrolls), California roll(much better than most places I had in houston), the lemon butter scallop(I’m not a fan of raw but this was actually good and tasted fresh), pink scallop(daily special which was another good one but too much sauce/mayo to me but the bf loved it) and other dishes I’m sorry to say I forgot. Sitting at the bar was nice because the owner chatted with us for a bit and told us he was from Okinawa(which is a place in Japan that me and my bf would love to visit). Overall my experience was good. I don’t mind coming back when I’m back in OC.
