Dunegan Orthodontics

Both my son and daughter had braces with Dr. Dunegan. Excellent results. Great front office. Dr Dunegan saw my daughter through jaw surgery. He’s the best!!!

Dr. Dunegan straightened my teeth and fixed my underbite, he made my teeth perfect! very friendly and professional!

Our family has certainly been an atypical orthodontics customer.
My daughter lost her teeth very early, and we began orthodontic treatment via consultations and developing a plan of treatment when she was relatively young, about 9. After she had her braces on for about a year and half, or so, I had a consultation with Dr. Dunegan because I had an spot where my teeth were hitting when I bit. Although I had braces twice as a teenager, I though perhaps Invisalign would be an option for me.
Of course, Dr. Dunegan could fix my teeth; that’s what he does, he’s an orthodontist. But he was the first person to correlate the physical structure of my skull and jaw with my severe obstructive sleep apnea, and suggested to me that since I was considering making the investment into orthodontic treatment, perhaps I should consider orthognathic surgery (which requires orthodontia as preparation and then follow through) as a treatment for my severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This intrigued me, because although I was successfully using my CPAP machine for years, I do enough hunting/​fishing/​camping that the idea of being freed from the machine was very liberating.
I went to visit the preeminent expert on using orthognathic surgery to treat OSA, Dr. Jeffrey Posnick. Dr. Posnick convinced me that this surgery had a high degree of probability of treating my OSA, but unfortunately, my insurance would not cover any of Dr. Posnick’s services. I was bitterly disappointed that I could not afford Dr. Posnick, and reported to Dr. Dunegan that finances would prevent me from the treatment. Dr. Dunegan make inquiries, and found Dr. Huy Trinh in Fairfax Corner (a separate Unilocal Review) who took my medical insurance (BCBS Federal), and perhaps more importantly, was highly recommended for this surgery. The distinctions between dental and medical insurance become very germaine when considering this surgery, but I digress.
I visited with Dr. Trinh, then yet another oral surgeon, a sleep specialist, my dentist, and an ENT, and became convinced that I should pursue this surgery. After the surgery, Dr. Dunegan straightened me out, and both he and his staff, including the office and the treatment folks, were beyond wonderful.
The bottom line is that Dr. Dunegan has gone far beyond the call of duty in helping me obtain a treatment that is literally life changing. Not only do my teeth look great, but more importantly, I can breath at night. In a terrific example of interdisciplinary health care, I don’t think you can find an orthodontist more willing to help you, and can’t recommend his practice highly enough.
Who would have thought that a visit to my daughter’s orthodontist would end up eliminating my OSA?

From the first time here, to the follow up visits, this is one of the best run medical facilities I’ve ever been to. The staff at the front are ALWAYS cheerful and helpful. The hygienists are ALL positively lovely and wonderful. They are extremely informative and knowledgeable, and they seem to do most of the work.
The dentists Dunegan, Lee and Langguth have made going through the brace phase a very easy process (and this is her second round).
If I decide that I want to straighten my teeth in the future, I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
