The fact that the owners of this place do not care for it is so clear. The paint on the walls was put there so sloppy that it is on the curtains, the walls, art, and the floor. Handles are broken and hanging on the dresser. Lights have broken off switches.

I’m not really sure why the local hate for this hotel. It’s not the Ritz but for a local motel it’s perfectly acceptable. Still, when I mentioned where I was staying to anyone in this little town, the response was usually pity and wishes for my continued safety. I find that a bit amusing. It’s within stumbling distance of the town’s 1 bar which is also nice. Wifi is free and has a decent signal which is the #1 thing I care about in a hotel anyway.

This hotel is «OK» … the beds are descent, but it feels kind of like you’re in a low-income housing project, without the criminals. The wall shakes when you open or shut the door. Luckily, it’s directly next door to the Galax Police Department. The staff are quite pleasant. The owner lives in the motel, behind the reception area. The continental breakfast is sparse, but filling. If you’re late, they will keep bring more things out for you. The walkways are very wide, so that’s nice that you don’t have to maneuver around people who may also be enjoying the views. It’s also about a ½ mile from Felt’s Park. I mean… how awesome is that? You park for the evening, walk to the Park… you don’t have to worry about parking again. I’m not ragging on the hotel, but… if you’re picky, then take note: The walls do shake when you open/shut the doors. When you’re at the toilet, the toilet paper roll is pushing against your arm. The bathroom door does not have sufficient clearance with the floor — it scrapes the tiles. The towels are scratchy. The Wifi is quite slow… and we were about five doors away from the router, the signal went in and out. Frustrating when you’re trying to upload photos from the Fiddlers’ Convention. Or just check email. I’m not picking on the TV… mine sucks too. But I think it was at least 21 years old. At least the device was that was glued on top of it. A Nintendo gaming controller holder. I was amused. But I’m just happy getting a picture. They don’t have a lot of channels, but as long as I have 4 or 5, I’m happy in any place. It fills up quick, depending on what events are going on in town, and you will get a sound sleep. We had no noise coming from the other rooms… no TVs, no banjos, nothing heavy panting. And you do get a pretty cool view off the balcony looking down the hill on the side of the hotel.
