I love their ice cream, I think it’s fantastic, the staff is as expected of any fine establishment. I go here regularly. The part I would not rate them great on is they do not have a public restroom which is not too big a deal, but if you need it. It is something to complain about, and at three separate occasions I have been served too little. I am assuming they were hurrying, or had new employees… I think they can use some improvement on training their staff on consistency, one time they have me a little too much(no complaints there), some times it’s what I expect, but when there is a line of people they get complacent on individual servings. The counter where they take orders can be improved cosmetically, there nothing bad about it but that is the face of their establishment and improving it will definitely make their rating improve. In conclusion I would rate them 4.5-ish stars on the weekdays and when they are busy on the weekends especially Friday night I rate them 3 stars, but due to their exemplifying location I give them a solid 4.

Excellent find! I happened to be in my hometown for work related training, and afterwards my coworkers felt like it was a perfect ice cream day. Unilocal brought us here, and we’re so glad it did. Sundaes with generous toppings as well as awesome cookie kaboom in waffle cones. We lounged in the sun while watching some of the local wildlife flew by, as well as the wispy clouds in the deep blue sky. What a great way to spend part of a workday! And extra kudos to Dani, who was very informative and a delight to talk to. Highly recommended, and we’ll all be back later this summer!

All I’m going to say is if you’re close by, go here. Or even if you have to drive a long distance, still go! Collectively we got pistachio, banana, mint chocolate chip and black cherry. The portions are large and the ice cream is mighty creamy. And amazingly good. Luckily we will be in the area for 4 more days and will visit again soon. Our GPS found it just find and there is a big ‘open’ sign off the road. Just go, so yummy!

Ultimately the best ice cream around! My grandson loves going there and visiting the animals when he’s done with his ice cream, I do as well! We recently went there and much to our surprise, they were having a outdoor movie with popcorn, hamburgers, hotdogs, corn on the cob, drinks and yes, ice cream! I hope they have many more surprises like that in the future! Friendly and accurate staff!

Great stop! We spent 10 days in Mystic, CT. We tried out 5 ice cream shops around the area. This was the BEST! We even came back for a second time. My husband got a triple scoop on our last visit. Every flavor is delicious. Tons of coconut pieces in the coconut ice cream. Set in a pretty area and it’s also a nursery. We have told our friends to stop here if they are ever in the area. We were there for our second visit on Friday the 17th of July. There were 3 very nice girls working the window. Great service and very friendly! Thank you girls! Maybe out of the way for some… but worth the trip! In our book… great ice cream is never too far away. Prices seem to be in line with other good ice cream shops… not DQ! Tom and Vickie from Delaware

Always amazing! It’s super busy on weekends. They are open till 10 in the summer so we seem to go after dinner and don’t have to wait super long. Their banana splits are amazing(the peanut butter sauce is to die for!) but the lemon pie ice cream is by far my favorite! The girls working are always sweet and we love looking round at the animals while we eat. Perfect small town gem!

Great ice cream, lots of flavors, very fresh. Only thing I didn’t like was the waffle cone. It tasted like a glass cleaner product. It might be the cinnamon in it, not sure.

Pricey for some ice-cream but it was well worth it and pretty darn good. I’m from the west coast visiting family and we ventured out here for dessert. Unique flavors and tons of options! You won’t be disappointed…

A little out of the way, but not too much of an inconvenience if you live in the area. I came here as several friends recommended it but I was a little disappointed. They have a good variety of flavors but the price will put a serious hole in your wallet. I treated my wife, daughter, and myself to some ice cream and the total was $ 16. For that price I’d rather buy the ice cream and toppings at the grocery store and eat in at home. To add insult to injury, I ordered a waffle bowl sundae($ 7.99!) with Reese’s Pieces and hot fudge and the toppings were incredibly scarce. There was such a small amount of hot fudge on my sundae that my wife didn’t even know it was a hot fudge sundae.

Such a great little gem! Allie the lab is a total sweetie and my kiddo loved her! He also loved looking at the cows,(baby calf, so cute!) bunnies, chickens and the pig. The ice cream is tasty, prices are right and they have a wonderful selection of flowers, herbs, & veggies. Great for the whole fam, even dogs(they have doggie ice cream!) Friendly staff, too!

I’ve been here a bunch of times, and this was definitely my go to ice cream place until they shut down for the season. They have a variety of unique flavors that are all delicious. The people they have working are really friendly which makes the place that much more pleasant. One thing I wanted to try that I didn’t get to this season was a homemade cookie ice cream sandwich. I will probably try next season when they open. They also have some other stuff there like a little farmer’s market and stuff(I only found this place in September and they closed in October, so I can’t be sure what it’s like earlier in the season). If you are looking for a great ice cream spot to satisfy your sweet tooth, give this place a try!

They’ve got Mosquitos here: O Well at night they did, don’t know what it’s like during the day. Upside– the ice cream selection! I was pretty bummed that they ran out of the Kit-Kat flavor. So I tried the mint ores(I love mint ice cream so my opinion on it may be biased, lol) and cheesecake. The cheesecake was definitely filled with pieces of it but I thought the flavor of the ice cream was a bit bland. Maybe to compensate for the strong cheesecake pieces. But my husband had the peanut butter chip swirl? Or something like it– that was delicious! I loved that one! But there are so many more options I’ll have to go back to try them again! They’re doggy friendly! My little pup had a really fun time meeting the other dogs there(leashed) and eating our left over ice cream. Definitely a fun place to go with family or a date after dinner :)

OK, this place gets an award for being Connecticut’s most hidden ice cream stand. No, it’s not way off in the middle of farm country. It’s actually not very far from the US sub base. But if you just drive along Route 12 through Gales Ferry expecting to find it you won’t find it. You’ll have to turn down a road named Hurlbutt Rd(I’m not making that up) and then veer down Military Hwy. Their ice cream is alright. It’s not the best I’ve had but it’s certainly not the worst. I highly recommend the Kit Kat Paddy Wack flavor. The best way I can describe that flavor is that it tsates similar to a rum baba pastry. I doubt it has actual rum in it, so you won’t have to worry about getting light headed, tossing off your clothes, and running naked with the farm animals on site. Now I didn’t see any animals on site when I visited because it was late and everything was pitch black. I did see their entire stand(building and patio) and I must say it is one of the nicer ice cream stands in the state. Everything looks super clean, bright, and spiffy. 1 scoop = $ 3.50 2 scoops = $ 4.99 The 2 scoops is a little pricey, whereas many other ice cream stands charge just 50 cents more for their larger size.

So I had a sudden late night ice cream craving and being stuck in Groton I thought I was doomed to a Ben and Jerry’s pint of ice cream from the local liquor store. But Unilocal comes through again! I found this spot via a quick search and I have to say it was delicious! They have so many flavors it was hard to choose! Big plus for being open late and having a very friendly staff. I do have to say it isn’t the easiest place to find and it felt like I was driving down a really sketchy back road(like Texas Chainsaw massacre) before I found it glowing beside the road. Definitely worth the trip.
