Howard Johnson Express Galveston

I would like to start by saying I made the reservation specifically because I have always known Howard Johnson to be a reputable chain, and needed a room for my family for the night. Paid $ 193.42. The experience was just short of traumatic, and definitely the worst hotel experience of my life. The floors and bathroom had not been cleaned. The bathroom had a strong odor of urine. There was crud all over the floor, We asked for a different room, but were told we shouldn’t have arrived so late (even though I had called to inform them of our late arrival time, around 10:30) and there were no housekeepers to clean the room. We returned and then found the bed linens had not been changed. There was hair and crumbs in the sheets, as well as lipstick on the pillow. Went back and were given sheets and told we are welcome to make the bed.

We stayed here because we were cruising out of Galveston port. We waited until late to book a room (about a month in advance) and ended up paying about $ 125, including taxes.
Our room was clean enough and comfy. The train whistle did wake me up, but it wasn’t the end of the world. Wi-​Fi service was patchy.
The continental breakfast was adequate to hold us until we got to have lunch on the ship. It was just your basic sweet rolls, cereal, toast, bagels, whole apples & bananas, coffee, and apple & orange juice and milk. I am certain we will have plenty to eat on the cruise!
About 4 miles to oceanfront restaurants and beach.
We appreciated the free parking. Car was nice and safe. Shuttle service is across the street. $ 10/​pp roundtrip plus tips.

Adrian & Todd were great, they helped us out, and answered all our questions about our cruise & shuttle service, and our rooms were clean and comfortable.

My biggest regret is that I did not read these reviews before booking a room here. Travelocity had the nerve to rate this place as a four star hotel!!!
the toilet in my room barely worked and had to be flushed several times.
We left to attend a concert and when we returned we discovered that the maid had not cleaned the room.
The train track is about 100 feet from the rear of hotel.
Trains start running about10:00 pm at night and continue every two hours or so through the night blaring thier horns as they pass by.
I wont stay there again.

My two daughters, 4grandkids and I stayed Mar. 15 2014. We were leaving on a cruise Mar 16^th. This is an older motel that is not on the tourist side of Galveston. But, I just want to let everyone know that it is just great for a family going on a cruise. They let you leave your vehicle for the length of the cruise plus they have their own shuttle service that was extremely affordable. The rooms are old but clean. The staff were very nice and helpful. The shuttle staff were very sweet. I highly recommend this motel and will be using it again on my next cruise.

The staff was not very welcoming, friendly or helpful. When we needed more towels for the room I called the front desk and they told me to go find the housekeeper. After I found the house keeper she told me she didn’t have any then appointed me to go get more from the front desk. So I called the front desk again they told me to go to the front desk to pick them up.
The floors turn your feet black. Huge power lines as for your view. If you like real firm beds you will love these. There are lots of Mosquitos in the room. Decent size refrigerator and microwave in the room is nice. The train nearby is not very pleasant. There is not many food places nearby. My room needed a few repairs and touch ups.
Would not come back. :/

This hojo looks nice just like the photo, but what it doesn’t show is the big truck stop across the parking lot and the active railroad right behind the motel. This hojo is by it’s self in an industrial section of the island, the wifi only works near the front lobby where the rude manager works, the guy needs to learn basic people skills. The rooms were so so, not bad not great. If you have a choice, look for another place, I would not stay here again!!!
