Nate’s was a great choice! went in with a party of 12. It was about an hour and 15 minutes before we were seated, two hours until we got our food… But the food was great. I had the shrimp po boy and it was excellent. Service was very friendly. Would recommend

This was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed it so much and even talked to our cook twice to tell him. The spices were perfect and it was cooked to perfection.

Sweet tea was perfect! Dinner salad was good, key lime pie is not homemade but it was alright. Chicken fried steak sandwich was good and not full of seasonings. The crab and crawfish pontratrain was absolutely delicious with the dirty rice! I I read other reviews on it and had to try. Man, it was excellent! The shrimp kisses were really yummy too. Boudin balls were really really good… after I put the hot sauce on it. Service was quick and everyone was nice. Will come back!

Food was average. Had the gumbo and chili. Wait staff wasn’t very welcoming and a little short with us while serving.

Nate’s is so good that after having dinner here last night we just had to come back for lunch. The Shrimptastic, including shrimp that was peel and eat, grilled, fried, stuffed and kissed… it was all delicious! And today we had shrimp salads and gumbo and it was exactly what we hoped for(along with homemade dressings). I will NOT come back to Galveston without coming to Nates from now on. It is just too good to miss!

Great service but lousy food. Stay away from the stuffed shrimp. It is horrible. The salad was just ok and the steak fries were undercooked.

In this day when fried food is a dime a dozen Nates is NOT a place to waste your money. Overrated. Overpriced. Awful service. We’d heard this from friends and still opted to try it. Big mistake. Service was ridiculous. End up a few miles down with much better place and FAR superior service.

Food is horrible! The Chicken Fried Steak was nothing but batter and the steak itself wasn’t even seasoned. The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and apologetic, but it doesn’t make up for the well below average food.

Excellent seafood restaurant in Jamaica Beach. The food is excellent. I had a cup of gumbo as an appetizer and it was delicious. Full of shrimp and okra plus delicious full body flavor and consistency. I then had a bowl of dirty rice with the seafood Ponchatrain sauce over it. This was amazing. It had a generous amount of crawfish, shrimp and mushrooms which was very filling. The dirty rice was also perfect. We will definitely eat here again when out this way.

This spot was recommended to us to try the flounder and I was disappointed that not only the flounder but all the fish was still frozen bc the guys the night before forgot to thaw it? It was like 130pm so I’m not sure why they didn’t take some out as soon as possible when the day staff arrived. Staff had varying personalities(none were rude at all) but frazzled to obnoxiously loud to get attention. Definitely a town favorite though bc a lot of locals knew the staff by name. It was diner ish with flies and fans and kinda smelled funny. I will say the grilled shrimp tasted good. It’s more a spot for in a pinch diner food for convenience.

Staff is very unprofessional. Kitchen staff was out in the dining area play fighting and cussing, walking around with cigarettes in their hands(unlit) and talking about how hungover they were. The food is okay — seems like everything was frozen/deep fried. One of the only places to eat all the way on this end.

Agree with the user who posted about convenience. My family and I were staying on Treasure Island, at the tip of the island across the toll bridge. This was the closest restaurant within a 15 minute drive, and we were starving. The food was OK. It filled us up, but the flavor(except for grease and salt) was lacking. The shrimp kisses were our favorite. But I definitely got a big chunk of shell in one of my fried oysters that hurt my tooth pretty bad. The place was clean, albeit not fancy. And the service was OK. Our server was nice but not necessarily friendly — and there was almost no one there.

The food was amazing and the service was fast and on it. You want to try the shrimp kisses they are the best. There are only four of them but you do want them perfect combo of everything! Lol Our table left in food bliss would love to come back again.

You gotta try the crab & crawfish pontchartrain, with a side of dirty rice. Of all things folks at our table ordered, it might have been the best.

H & I decided to eat out our last night on Galveston Island. Since we were renting a house on the West end, we decided on Nate’s. Now this place ain’t fancy it looks like a double wide but they sure put out some tasty vittles! The place is clean & the staff friendly. I ordered the grilled snapper with some veggies. H started with the gumbo & went for something fried. The snapper was very delicious! H loved the gumbo & fried shrimp(I wish I tried some!). I will admit, they need to learn how to plate their food. It looks like they just slap it on the plate & there you go. :)

I wasn’t overly impressed with this place. We were all starving so we weren’t going to be too picky but everything felt greasy and heavy(even the non-fried options). It’s like they have a «more butter, more cream, more salt» policy. Frankly, if the food is fresh(and seafood on an island better be), it doesn’t need to be over worked. My vegetarian options were slim so I won’t bother elaborating on the shade of green found in my house salad. For the price I would recommend heading down the road to Gaido’s where you’ll get better food, service and selections.

It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten here. I decided to stop in and try it again. I can say the service and food quality have slipped. The wife had boiled shrimp, which were good. The shrimp po-boy I had was mediocre at best. You can tell frozen shrimp were used. Needless to say for the money we were disappointed. Furthermore, all of our food came out cold. Fries were soggy. A positive note though. Beer was ice cold.

Definitely the place to go for some good home town seafood. And if you don’t like seafood, the ribeye was perfect along with the grilled veggies. The staff was friendly and prompt. My only 2 complaints(but not bad enough to give them anything less than 4 stars) is that it’s very noisy and the food was a bit pricey. It was so loud that we had to almost yell at each other during dinner. Granted the crowd shows how much people like this place but a quiet dinner conversation was out of the question. However, overall I would still recommend this to passers by.

Why 3 stars? Because the best part was convenience. — — — My girlfriend’s family rented a house for a few days out in Galveston… and when I say OUT in Galveston… I mean we were practically halfway to Freeport. I lived in Houston for almost 22 years, and I didn’t even know there was civilization out this way :) Anywho… we debated on where to grab dinner for at least 45 minutes, maybe more. Eventually we settled on the closest half-decent place, which happened to be Nate’s. And the verdict? Yep: half-decent. The food was about what you’d expect at the Chili’s/Applebee’s of the world. Our server was curiously slow. There was a wait, probably due to the lack of other options nearby. So bottom line: if I were out this way again, I’d probably drive a bit further for better. But if you’re strapped for time, you could do worse than Nate’s.
