This is the best hidden secret in Galveston! The food is amazing! You have to try the French Toast! The owner Ms. Shannon and her staff are extremely friendly. The only thing missing was mimosas!

Came for the strawberry cake, stayed for the rest! This place is on a beautiful residential street out of the throng and tackiness that can plague any beach town. The only reason this is not 5 star is because for a breakfast joint they lack good coffee. They have drip coffee from a gas station era machine, nothing else. If they had proper coffee it would make this my perfect breakfast place! The food was good, I had a sandwich and was told to come back for breakfast. One bite in to my ridiculous slice of strawberry cake and I decided I WOULD be back for breakfast. Funny how cream cheese icing can influence your mind. Anyways, this place is a great example of a great local business making it on good food and good ingredients. Sometimes in tourist towns independent joints are hard to find, so let’s all work together to support our local businesses and keep gems like ShayKatz Deli around.

Cute place, but crammed depending on the time you visit. We went at lunch and I had the chicken salad. It was very good, but not sure I loved it enough to come running back here. Seating can be difficult if it’s busy. Desserts looked fantastic online, but just OK once I was in the place. They leave all of the desserts out(uncovered) which I thought was weird, but I guess some people see it as home-y and cozy. It seemed gross and unsanitary to me to have all of this food out while people breathe and peer over it to make their selection, but clearly it works for them! Unilocal 1002016: #7

Good breakfast and lunch spot with many choices. They have all there desserts out and it’s soooo tempting. Everything is fresh, however sometimes it can take a long time to come out despite not being busy. Also somewhat expensive for what it is.

Oh my god terrible food crispy device I would never go back. The fried shrimp were so greasy and came out cold. My kids were scared of the bathrooms. Staff was rude.

Had a breakfast burrito. Was all good. Not a Jewish deli. Was hopeful of a Katz’s style deli. Eclectic, local décor. Several locals. Took a long time to get the food out. The desserts looked great, but I am pre diabetic and passed. Is sort of out the way, but I like those kinds of places away from the seawall. Crowded at 10:00 a.m. Parking on the street.

Love this place! You need to have breakfast or lunch here because there is nothing better than home cooking. You need to try the baked goods! I love their scones… they aren’t dry like they normally are. Plus the employees are very friendly and treat you like family. I will definitely be back again!

WOW. This place is AWESOME. We were visiting Galveston last week and had to stop in for lunch based on the reviews and a suggestion. We are so glad we did. We had the ckicken cordon bleu sandwich, the huevos rancheros, and a slice of yellow coconut cake. Everything was the best! The community seating is nice, too, and we made some new friends. We will defiantly visit again next week when we’re in Galveston again. Also, the owner is so very friendly!

Nice selection of breakfast choices. The omelette, not technically an omelette, was good. Eggs over sausage topped with cheese. Meat choice is going under eggs and cheese on top. The french toast was excellent. Thick french bread with flavorful cinnamon egg coating. Whipped cream with sliced strawberries on side. I’ll be back. Curious if this really is how they make an omelette or if this was a mistake they ran with as it took awhile to get food compared to rest of my group.

This place is a great spot on the island to grab breakfast or brunch. I first went early on a Saturday morning before the big crowds hit, which was a good idea. The staff was incredibly friendly and even gave me an extra scone! I will be returning to this best-kept secret restaurant!

A friend and I went to Galveston for lunch today. It’s an order at the counter, they bring it to your table place. We found it a friendly homey deli. isn’t homey deli and oxymoron? Aren’t delicatessens a New York thing? And, nothing in New York is homey. I had a pastrami Reuben. It was good but not excellent. My friend had a chicken salad salad. He would have given it three stars. This averages out to 3 ½ and I gave the benefit of the doubt to four. I started to get one of their bakery items but stifled myself. ___ I’ve Eaten Out Every Meal for more than 25 years

What a great place to start your day off. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor. It’s order at the counter and they bring it out to you, with a smile on their face. There is something on the menu for everyone from the meat eater to the health conscience veg head to the sweet tooth. The baked goods looked AMAZING, but I didn’t try any. The coffee was brewed perfectly. Smooth and no bitterness to it. For breakfast our crew had THEHURRICANE: Sauté of veggies(mushrooms, onions, spinach) egg white and cheese on our toasted marble rye bread and a order of tasty home fries; BERRIES-N-CREAMCINNAMONFRENCHTOAST, HUEVOSRANCHEROS and the RIGO’S BREAKFASTBURRITO. All were pretty dang good and portion sizes were immense. I felt mine was a little on the oily side, but still delicious. It’s unquestionably a good breakfast place and I’d come back next time I’m in town!

Best breakfast I had so far in Galveston. Simple yet awesome perfection. The home fries are too good that I had to order a second serving. Biscuits and gravy are terrific. The sausage is cut in half and grilled both sides for a perfect sear. The other dishes in our group were equally liked by my friends. Homely feel with homestyle cooking. What more can’t you love about the place. They are extremely busy on a weekend. So make sure you get early. The serving might take a bit longer than usual restaurants but it is definitely worth the wait. Take a look at my pictures.

This place is delicious. Point blank. We were in Galveston for the weekend and wanted to find a nice local spot for lunch. That’s where this place comes in. We were greeted by the friendliest woman and let us know we could take a table and order whenever we were ready. After looking at the menu and checking out other patrons meals, we decided on a chicken salad, burger with pastrami, and two chicken clubs, both grilled and fried. This brings the reason for the four stars: the wait. After ordering our food it literally took one hour for it to get out to us. We were warned that it would take a bit given the high volume of clients but one hour? The staff again was as pleasant as ever and incredibly accommodating. After our meal was given to us the owner(I think?) was completely apologetic for the wait and offered us free desserts(which were INCREDIBLE). Food and staff: 5 stars Wait time: 1 star dedication. If you can make it out during the weekday I highly recommend it. If not, just be prepared for the wait.

This is my first time spending the night in Galveston, and I was looking for a good breakfast place to eat and I came across ShyKatz. I would consider myself to have vey high standards when it comes to trying new things. Finding it was a little tuff because of the location, but right when you walk through the doors it felt like home. It was extremely packed, yet they payed attention to every customer! The employees all have very kind hearts The food is also very delicious and hit the spot!
