Another retailer who can’t explain why in store music enhances the customer experience. Music in this store is elevated to point that you can’t ignore it. Irritating to say the least. In other respects, helpful employees, well stocked alternative to big box stores! 5 stars for assistance, and product knowledge. I avoid this place unless I have a quick in and out simply because music level.

I would have rated this store higher but multiple times items in this store are on shelves with the wrong price, only to be found out at the register. It seems that merchandise is on the wrong place on the shelves, that is they are stacked by a price sticker which is actually for a different, lower-priced item.(In my experience the actual price is always higher than the shelf price, the pricing error only seems to go one way.) Even being vigilant about trying to match up the item with the shelf price doesn’t always work because the descriptions on the shelf sticker are brief. A few times I’ve mentioned it when the cashier rings it up and then they have to call in an employee to check and they never apologize for the error and never offer to eat the difference. Not saying they should, but they shouldn’t act like you’re the idiot who is wasting their time.

I am a former employee and used to be a frequent shopper at this location. From what i’ve experienced even months after working there as a local customer, they’ll be lucky to get a penny from me. Pros: Great selection for most any project. Closer than going to Lowe’s or Home Depot. Some members of the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. Convenient hours of operation. Cons: Most of the staff is very young and apathetic, as well as inattentive to customers walking in the door. The younger management and staff members tend to lie their way through an answer to a question because they don’t know the right answer and are too proud to admit they don’t know. The sales floor is messy and unorganized more often than not. Parking at this location is congested and not well organized. The store shelves are more often dirty and dusty than clean. They have a real problem with the checkout process when it’s busy, as there are never enough registers open and even when all registers are open, they move at a turtle’s pace. Summation: This location is terrific for picking up something quickly for a project if you don’t want to go all the way to Carle Place to the big box stores, but I would warn against doing your regular hardware shopping here, as you will pay an exorbitant mark up on basic items without seeing the added customer service to justify the price. The staff isn’t well trained, nor do they really care about helping the customers b/c they’re young and more interested in clocking out so they can go socialize with their friends. While they have a superior selection of odds and ends you won’t find at most small hardware stores, they lack greatly in the way business is conducted between the employees and customers. If you can, don’t bother going to this location. Go north a few minutes to Lake Success Shopping Center and shop at that Costello’s Ace location.

I’d pick this over big box stores only if their prices were not way more expensive. In general prices for the same products are 50% higher sometimes more. Be careful when you ring up, a lot of the items’ prices are even higher than the already exorbitant sticker price. Yes, the staff are helpful, they can help you find what you need quickly but that’s about as resourceful as they are. The folks at home depot, while less accessible, are far more knowledgeable. In more than one occasions, I made the mistake of relying on their advice. Sometimes they try too hard to help, instead of just admitting that they don’t know the answer.

Another Unilocaler mentioned that when he reviewed this location back in 2010 it was a fairly new store. I must humbly disagree with him. There has been a hardware store at this location for as long as I can remember, and I’m getting up there in years! My uncle, who lived down the street on Park Ave would drag me along with him when i was a kid and he came here for whatever house project he was working on at the time. That being said I do wish I followed his lead because I am like many others and fell for the allure and overwhelming stockpiles of the box stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. Low prices and NO service. I’m no Super Handyman who knows everything about how things work so after years of fumbling through, when I moved back to the area I went right back to where my uncle always told me to go. Every time I have something go wrong at the house(which happens all too frequently) I go right to Costello’s Ace in GCP! Several times I’ve just walked in with whatever part was broken and just said«I need this» and they come thru. I ask questions and they have answers even suggesting things I never thought to do. Do I still go to the big box stores? Yes I do when looking for something specific I’ll run in. But for most of my home repairs I head here to Ace first. My wife loves thier paint department where her million and one questions get answered and she gets everything she needs all at once. There is another Ace a couple towns south on Hempstead tpke that’s a little closer to where I live but the owner and some of the workers there are rude which is a huge turn off when I need that advice and does effect where my wallet is opened at. Costello’s Ace of GCP and its staff of polite, knowledgeable and helpful people gets my business.

I was very disappointed in Costello’s. I had to rewire a ceiling fixture in my house and figured I’d go to my local Ace Hardware store to get some guidance that the large hardware chains often come up short with. Unfortunately, this particular Ace had no desire to offer any guidance at all. Each question was met with resistance to give any answers. Luckily, it was an easy repair that I was able to figure out. Next time I’ll either try a different local store or just head to one of the chains and pay a little less.

We just got home from Costello Ace hardware in Garden City Park. It was the most satisfying hardware store experience we have had in years. The store is bright and clean, and so many items are on display for you to actually feel, see, and sit on. The selection of odds and ends beats Home Depot and Lowes. They have excellent prices and super friendly, knowledgeable staff. The manager Mark, an old-timer with years in the hardware business, was able to get me what I needed at a great price, and really took the time to explain to me how to use the items i was buying to make a repair. It is so much better than the inattentive workers in the larger home center stores. I love how the store is local, the lines are never long, the employees greet you with a warm welcome as soon as you come in the door. It is a modern, well-stocked store with that long forgotten old style small corner hardware store feel about it, with that great staff. I highly recommend going there for all your hardware needs. You surely wont be disappointed.

Home /Hardware. I’m not sure who Costello is, but he has a lot of these Ace stores in the area. This location is fairly new — shiny and clean, well stocked and with decent prices, particularly on sale items. Since it is new, it was not too crazy crowded the few times I was in there and the help was great — they helped me find what I needed and had me out of there in a flash. Large selection and neatly arranged. Large parking lot.
