Been with them since the start. Always friendly, great food, good times. I have taken menu suggestions and sometimes been given new things just to try. They have opened up my palette to try new things. I discovered sushi later in life and was hesitant to go beyond a Philly Roll. Moderately priced, full bar(small bar), great selection. Not just sushi, plenty of items to choose from. Kelly and Eric bend over backwards to make their customers happy. I often notice how they know everybody’s name and take the time to interact with regulars. Hibachi is entertaining and usually see 1 or 2 birthday events enjoying the show. I am a creature of habit and eat here regularly, they set the bar high when I eat at other places.

Hadn’t been in awhile and it seems like they changed up the rolls. The Alliana roll was amazing and unique. The sushi ya roll had a garlic sauce that was also amazing, never had anything like it. The tuna pizza was also great on fresh fried tortilla.

Average sushi and average hibachi. Waitress forgot our appetizer and seemed to be in a rush to get us out. Even though it was pretty empty for a Saturday night.

We went for my birthday this past week and had booked both hibachi tables. We had the most amazing experience, and the staff was so awesome. Loved the commentary from the chef while making the food! The food was delicious as well! I would definitely recommend it!

Tried for dinner last night as area has other great restaurants. Service is good. Ambiance is super casual. Food is ok and seemed hit and miss depending on roll you got. Not impressed. Will keep sushi Nagahama in Long Beach as go to spot.

After having a yen for sushi yesterday but feeling too tired to drive to Kotobuki in Roslyn, which is my favorite sushi restaurant in Nassau County and because the sushi places in my immediate area are mediocre at best, I decided to try Sushi Ya due to excellent reviews both from customers and critics. After checking the menu online, I decided to order a Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe Combo and a Chicken Negimaki entrée. I called Sushi Ya and got a good first impression of the service as the gentleman who took my order was friendly, courteous, and attentive to my needs. He stated that my order would take 10 – 15 minutes to prepare, so I made the quick 10 minute drive to Garden City and was easily able to find street parking along Franklin Avenue(there are also village lots). When I walked inside, I found Sushi Ya to be clean and modern looking, with regular tables towards the front of the restaurant along with two hibachi tables if I’m not mistaken. The host stand was in the back near another entrance and I found Kate, the hostess at the time, to be very friendly and welcoming. She had my order ready and it came out to $ 24 for the sashimi and sushi platter and $ 16 for the Chicken Negimaki entrée, which despite the slightly smaller portion size than Kotobuki, was in line with other Japanese restaurants in the area. When I got home, I found everything to be delicious. I first tried the Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe Combo, which contained satiny and buttery Salmon in in nigiri and sashimi form, moist and meaty tuna in nigiri and roll form, two pieces of tender and not chewy octopus, mild and flaky yellowtail, and sweet and mild fluke. After enjoying the delicious sushi, I found the Chicken Negimaki, which I split for two meals due to the relatively large portion size and the fact that I ate the sushi first to have tender and juicy chicken with savory scallions tucked in the center and a sweet and salty teriyaki sauce surrounding it. The Chicken Negimaki was also accompanied by various vegetables, which included a sweet carrot, two crisp heads of broccoli, a dollop of sweet mashed sweet potato, and a dollop of earthy and creamy mashed potatoes. My meal also came with a salad, which had crisp lettuce and a tangy miso dressing, making for a wonderful accompaniment to my meal. Based on this meal, I would definitely add Sushi Ya as a top pick for sushi in Nassau County and it is nice to have a good option for sushi that is closer to home to satisfy my cravings for Japanese.

The Quick: Classic go to sushi spot in the cute«Main Street» area of town, nothing outstanding but always good food. Solid 3.5 stars. The Details: I’ve been going to sushi ya for years, it was the original sushi restaurant in the area, here before the«sushi craze» caught on. The food is always good, the owners are extremely friendly, and the location is great. The venue is nothing extravagant or special, and the food is pricey, but there’s something to be said about being the first restaurant of its kind. The sushi is always good and the lunch special is very reasonable. Nothing extraordinary, but I always return every once in a while. The Damage: A little pricey especially for the fancy rolls, which is to expected for sushi. I like to go for the lunch specials.

Since moving to Long Island, I have been in search of a great sushi restaurant. I have tried to rely on other Unilocalers, to no avail. Finally, my co-workers and I stumbled into to this little gem. The service was great, but the food was even better! The amount of rolls that they had to order from was awesome, I had 2 as well as everyone else. Every single roll we shared was better than the next. I also had eaten their teriyaki chicken on another visit, also amazing. I have yet to try the hibachi, but watched the last time I visited, and it looks great! Can’t wait to go back friday:)

A friend recommended Sushi Ya when my husband and I were craving sushi one night. I’m pretty sure the one she was referring to was the one in New Hyde Park. That one is called Hibachi Sushi Ya. We accidentally came here instead. I can’t really remember what we ordered. I just remember ordering the miso soup and that was good. We ordered a couple of rolls that weren’t too memorable in my opinion. My husband also felt eh about the food. I would definitely consider trying Sushi Ya at the New Hyde Park location instead. It seems that they have better reviews.

Just an update — Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to eat here in a long time. However, I was craving Japanese food so I made a reservation at 9pm. I ended up arriving 40 minutes late and they still were polite and served us!(Even though they close at 10pm) Food and service was excellent as usual. I truly think this is the best sushi restaurant in Long Island. Love you guys!

Another mediocre sushi spot near my office, it’s my last choice for when the craving hits. I like the fact that they deliver, but the lunch rolls are tiny. I can tell the fish is fresh, but it’s kind of tasteless — maybe it’s the way they store it? Regardless, there’s nothing special about this place and I don’t understand why they charge so much.

I used to work nearby this place, and I will honestly say, it was a last resort when ordering take out in the sushi department. The drivers never know any English, and they tend to get lost fairly easily looking for the building I worked in. Besides that, the sushi was never anything to brag about. Pretty basic and sometimes tasteless. I firmly believe that there is only two types of sushi, good or bad, no in between. The drinks are ok when dining inside, but nothing special, and the hibachi was ok in my opinion. I’ve seen better«Benihana» chefs. Oh and the music here is brought to you by Pandora, as heard by the commercials.

When they’re on, everything is good. Unfortunately with me, they’ve been mostly off. On 3 occasions, eating in and dining out, I have found things in my sushi rolls that shouldn’t be there. One time was a fish bone, another was an avocado stem and the last time we went there my friend found plastic wrap in her roll. For me, 3 times a charm. We don’t go to Sushi Ya anymore. It’s a shame too because their Anthony roll was one of my favorites anywhere. A couple of weeks ago we decided to give them one last chance. When we called we were greeted with a condescending tone and refusal of something that was on their menu. Sushi Ya has lost our business for good. Kinha gets it now, and they are delicious.

Went here for a birthday dinner. Great service and really large portions at the hibachi. The chefs are very personable and put on a great show for the kids. Parking has never been a problem when we’ve gone there.

Came here twice in the last 10 days. First time, on Saturday night, the place was packed. No complaints about service. I had Shrimp Tempura Udon soup($ 12) and my hubby had three rolls. I liked that they put the tempura on the side, so it doesn’t get soggy. 2nd time was during the week and we were waited on by a very interesting server. He approached us by asking us «how may we quench your thirst?», then while taking order, he asked«what will you have, my lady?». And for the rest of the night, he kept addressing us as «My lady». He could have been the Prince Lancelot of Japanese restaurants. He was amusing. Food is okay, price is reasonable. The only con is that the bus boys are a little too eager to clear your plates. Its like the minute you put your chopsticks down, they take your plate away… hey I wasn’t really finished… but too late.
