Sad situation here, place really went down hill. The mature gentlemen tending behind the counter clearly doesn’t want to be here with his, «why the Ef are you taking to me attitude.» The meat in my sandwich was way passed. Can’t believe no one could tell by the smell. When I pointed this out I was given more attitude. I think this grand old place isn’t long for this world.

I love being able to find old brands of sodas here. You can’t find so many of them anywhere else(easily). I wish that all the places on Main Street in Garden Grove could be just like Zlaket’s. The fact that it still has the original style and little personal touches makes it timeless and unique! The food is always good and tastes fresh. I wish that the people who work there could be more friendly. I rarely get a welcoming or warm feeling when going in. I think some of the pricing is too high as well. Yes, they’re very different from other places around, but not SO worth the extra cost, especially when lacking a charismatic staff. I look forward to grabbing some potato salad or soda every once and a while though. I’ve gone since I was little with family or friends so it always brings back nice memories.

I love all the mini-brew soda’s — both refrigerated and on the shelf so one can build a six-pack. The deli sandwiches and mac and cheese are fantastic. Love it.

I’m glad they were open today Ben tho it’s outside of their regular hours… they are one of the few places that considered being open since the fair was going on up the street. Anyways, we stopped for some ice cream, we ordered chocolate and ended up with cookies and cream. The scope was super small and cost $ 2; it was nothing special just thrifty ice cream.

I have been buying specialty meats, particularly rabbit, here for many years. I find their store clean and the people working it helpful and pleasant. I LOVE the concept that it has been around for so many years, run by the same family and is a local and historical gem. SUPPORT local small business!!!

Have never left this place disappointed, one my fav Sandwich spots on town. My friends and I frequent this lovely Mom & Pop joint at least a few times a month. I’ve tried most of their Signature sandwiches and they’re all delicious, especially the Pastrami. Aslo, their Tuna/Chicken/Turkey are really good as well.

Since the owner thought I was so important to bring up something I had forgotten about because it was a year ago, I would like to add further insight into my preview review. Would I have handled the situation differently now, probably yes. I would like to think of myself as a class act, I never lose my cool and brush off people that treat me unfairly. I have never once had the guts to speak up for myself and the one time I choose to, a grown man tries to make me feel like trash for doing so. I was having a pleasant afternoon with my family going through shops. I decided to make a purchase of around $ 12 for a few bottles of soda, my little sister ran up immediately after and asked me to get her one more bottle. I was not adding on and asking for multiple transactions as was suggested, just wanted to buy one more. If there was a sign staying somewhere there policies it would have been different but I was 100% unaware of any extra charges, thinking it was no big deal. The owner didn’t mumble to his wife after me asking for a few extra transactions, he blatantly said it loud enough for me to hear after asking to buy one additional item. If you have an issue with that them you need to have a sign up stating this. I tried to be calm as first as basically just asked him why he was mad that I was purchasing more goods from his store. After he continued to harass me and be overly rude about being charged 40¢ that was when I yelled at him. If there was that much of an issue with a measly 40¢ then charge your debit/credit purchases, easy at that. Don’t make a innocent customer feel bad for asking to buy more items. It could have been better handled by all parties but I stand by my previous statement of poor customer service and an extremely rude owner. So thank you for taking them time to try and twist the story around to make me look like some white trash delinquent looking to start trouble, but that was not the case whatsoever. Try and have better communication with your customers next time.

I have to say I have been going to Zlaket’s since the 70’s. I don’t usually get the deli stuff, but I have in the past and remember the sandwiches better than most. What I go there for is the BACON. By far the best bacon I have ever tasted. I buy it by the piece usually a 3 lb. chunk. I can cut it as thick as I want. Although, the butcher is happy to slice it for you as thick as you want. Today, I scored on a great roast. You know the kind of beautiful piece of meat you could find 30 years ago. Yes, the prices are higher that COSTCO, but the quality is the much better. And the customer service is excellent. This is the kind of family business I support and will continue to support. They take pride in what they do and it shows in the quality of the product they sell and their customer service. I wish Zlaket’s another successful 80 years!

My new favorite place! Yummy food. Very nice people and a selection of goodies to die for!!! If you’re just passing by Main Street in Garden Grove I urge you to stop in. I got the hot pastrami on squaw bread,(and beer chips, german chocolate cake, old school fountain cream soda… Oink oink) very very good. I am a happy camper today!

I’ve passed by this place many times not knowing exactly what they had to offer. I went in for a sandwich and was pleasantly surprised at what I found. First of all I’ve never had an egg salad sandwich as good as the one I had here. It had large egg slices instead of being ground up into little bits. Excellent texture. I never knew they had a premium meat department. They have cuts of meat that I can’t even find at everyday grocery stores. They have a wall with hundred of choices of novelty sodas and I was happy to see the candy selection at the register. One of my old childhood favorites: Fruit Stripe gum. According to their sign it is a family owned business that is over 80 years old. They have many old pictures of Garden Grove on the walls inside. This place definitely takes me back. Will definitely come back for a sandwich and some vintage candy.

In old town Garden Grove, I really enjoyed the selection of specialty drinks here. It brought me back in time to the 1950’s when getting drinks to cool you off from the heat was the way to go. I wish there were more market’s like this around California, but I’m glad I was able to visit this place and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

DESERVESZEROSTARS… ABSOLUTELYTHEWORSTSTORE. Not only are the bottled sodas(all brands you can get cheaper at BevMo) way overpriced, the food looks like it’s been out being infested by bugs all week, but the service is the worst I’ve ever encountered. My sister had just bought 4 sodas with a total of $ 8-$ 12 dollars when I ran up with one more. The women said nothing as she took my sisters card again but the man looked disgusted and mumbled something. Then he began to yell at my sister and I(paying customers) that he «couldn’t believe us» and«are you f***** kidding me» and«you’re costing me 35 cents to run your card again, oh my f***ing god» My sister and I thought he was joking at first but after much more cussing and yelling at us, soon realized he was serious. My sister said«we are giving you business you should not be acting like this ATALL.» We let him know how much of a a**hole we was before leaving which he responded by acting like he was going to come from behind the counter… What was he going to hit two girls or something?! I can’t believe this guy actually gets business with those prices, poor quality, and TERRIBLE service. This place needs to be shut down if you ask me… For good!

If you are in the area it is worth stopping in. Their sandwiches are good and the bread is super soft. They have an excellent and very large selection of old time and hard to find sodas, as well as a small selection of old time candy. The downside with this market is the meat prices. We drive to an excellent butcher in Huntington and pay $ 15.00 a pound for rib eye, which is a pretty penny… Zlacket’s charges $ 32.00 a pound, the meat is not cut and no indication it is prime. The amount however would be too high even for prime. If all of that was done, I would travel here weekly to pick up meat and have a sandwich.

Zlaket’s Market is the best! They offer quality meats, delicious deli items and excellent catering services. Anytime I visit Orange County I love to stop in for a hot or cold sandwich for lunch and pick up yummy steaks for dinner. Leo, Virginia, David and Tina Zlaket are the owners of this family business that has been around since the early 1900’s. They are warm and generous people who have given so much to their community for decades. Leo is the best butcher in town and David serves up the best hot and cold lunches! Their catering service is amazing too. Whether you are having a small office luncheon or a large dinner for your friends and family, Zlaket’s provides excellent food and service. I have attended many events catered by Zlaket’s, and I highly recommend them. In short, when you are in Orange County you need to stop in at Zlaket’s Market. You will enjoy the experience!

Zlaket’s is a super-cute little family-run specialty grocery and deli right in the one-streeted heart of downtown Garden Grove. Of course I had to stop here because it’s surrounded by all my other favorite places. It’s kind of like stepping into Wonderland or Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory or something in this part of town… everything seems to be cute and fun. We didn’t get any sandwiches at Zlaket’s(which, to be fair, I’ll have to go back and try one since they’re getting raves), but the market itself was decent and had some fun items. Mostly, it feels like what a small grocery store in the 1950’s must’ve felt like – you go to the back of the store and there’s your meat and cheese counter, and then on the shelves are specialty soda pops in vintage bottles or imports(10 pts. for having blueberry sodas from Maine!) and other fun ingredients like unique jams, special breads, etc., etc. Prices are definitely a bit higher than say, Trader Joe’s, but again, this is a local place with carefully selected, if not a big variety, of fun items. I’d go here more for the curiosity than to actually look for something you really needed. But if you want a weird soda to go along with your pastrami, give it a try. It didn’t look like there’s much else besides some select sandwiches you can order and one or two kinds of pasta or potato salad, but you can get meats and cheeses to go, too. That could also be fun. Perhaps Zlaket’s could supply your impromptu picnic? Anyway, next time I’m in the area, I’ll have to grab a bite of real lunch here. And some more blueberry soda to wash it down, of course.

Really great mom ‘n pop store that sells sandwiches, deli meats, cheeses, and all kinds of bottled sodas. They also sell other food items in jars. Prices are decent; although, I would say a bit more higher than usual sandwich shops in the area(must be because they’re «well known»). But, who am I kidding, I haven’t tried their sandwiches so maybe they are worth the price!

A super cute, old-fashioned grocery store and deli. It’s definitely a mom and pop shop that’s been around for a few generations now, and i’m a huge fan of these types of establishments. I got the pastrami sandwich from the deli counter, and it was super delicious and tasty. They put it on a regular sandwich bun, and I usually don’t eat pastrami with this type of bread(I prefer sourdough or rye), but it tasted wonderful! I absolutely loved it. I’ll definitely come back for more. Friendly service!

I didn’t go there so I don’t know how adorable this market is hence the 1 star. My love of mac and cheese shows from the cellulite in my thighs. the man brought me mac n cheese in this plastic container and half a soggy mess of a sandwich, which I think was rib eye but my taste buds say it’s meat composite stewed in dirty gym socks(yes, that bad) I’m not even joking… but let’s get to the main focal point: mac n cheese. had the right components –cheese — elbow macaroni. the texture was good but it was completely bland. I cannot recommend mac n cheese(unless you really need a cheese fix) and rib eye sandwich!!!

I had really high hopes going into this situation. It had all the components necessary for a great lunch. Deli counter, root beer galore, lunch special sign with my favorite colored chalk writing, sandwiches both hot and cold, meat and cheeses on display, etc. I ordered the lunch special Rib-eye on a roll. She said it tasted like gym socks. I agreed. The mac n cheese was pretty bland too. I guess 2000 grams of salt in the Kraft out of the box mac n cheese spoiled us. I only been here once and feel like it’s sad to give it a one star, so I’ll give it two. They still have much more to offer so give this place a shot. I also bought the root beer sampler box(10 different varieties of root beer in one box) so we’ll see how that is. I might come back and up it to three stars.
