Very glad this place has opened. It is very close to home and the food is great. We eat there pretty regularly and the service & food are always very good. The staff there is always attentive and alert. I’d give it five stars but I’ve been to The Country Tavern outside Kilgore and they are the best in the south. Double S has become my choice for Barbeque in South Garland /East Dallas.

I wish I could say we ate here, but we did not. We walked in on a Saturday night, the place was completely desolate. I was immediately worried that the food was terrible hence why no one was in the restaurant. When I walked up to the front we were told that they were OUT of bbq. They only had sausage. Um, what? It’s Saturday night for crying out loud. Needless to say, we didn’t eat there and I quickly understood why no one else was either.

I have been here several times now. I do enjoy having a BBQ Restaurant close nearby. The food is good with good taste and spices. I have had the ribs and the brisket sandwich which are my favorite. A long with the jalapeño corn bread nuggets. The service is always good. The food is great and the price is fair It’s always clean. The only thing I don’t like is that the place closes to early. I’m not sure if it has changed their hours but I’ll update my review based on next time I can see the hours. But what was ridiculous was they closed at 6−7pm on some nights.

Service is extremely good. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. I love that they have multiple BBQ sauces in coffee carafe’s so they are warm! Go here! Good BBQ!

Always consistent great tasting BBQ. Very friendly staff. My only complaint is that I wish it was closer so that my family and I could eat there more.

Let me start by saying I am «very» picky about BBQ because in my opinion, my husband makes the absolute best. With that said, I loved my ribs! They were so tender and moist. I’m not much of a bean eater either, but I have to say I liked those as well. My husband had the pork and we both agreed that it was almost as good as my husbands. LOL. The banana pudding was as good as my Grandmas. Like another reviewer, I really enjoyed the classic country that was being played. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I don’t eat BBQ sauce but my husband likes the really spicy one. He was warned about how how it was, but he likes things hot so it was nothing to him. We’ll go back; in fact we went today, but they are closed on Sundays. I really hope they succeed because good BBQ in this part of town is hard to find.

Their ribs are outstanding! Their brisket was really good but very fatty(a good thing if you’re into that sort of thing.) and their sweet sauce was the best of the bbq sauces. Got a free dessert(thanks to Unilocal!) and husband chose the peach cobbler. It was fresh but not very noteworthy. May be better with soft serve ice cream which we did not choose

Overall the food was excellent. I read mixed reviews on Double S Barbeque, so I went in not quite knowing what to expect, but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. The brisket had a great flavor, as well as the sausage, and it had a perfect amount of fat(not too much, but not completely lean — just enough for the flavor to be there). The sausage had a thin skin which is how I prefer it, because it is not chewy. The sides were good. I also tried the french fries, macaroni and ribs. The ribs tasted great as well. Another review mentioned a heavy taste of oregano in the ribs dry rub, which is true. While oregano is a nonstandard flavor for ribs, I think it makes their ribs unique from other BBQ restaurants, so I liked it. Not your«same old» recipe. A little inconsistency with the tenderness of the ribs, some were a little tougher and others were falling right off the bone. My favorite part was the choice of 3 sauces. Texas Heat, Spicy, and Sweet –Sweet is closest to your traditional BBQ sauce. A little kick but not spicy. –Spicy was good, but distinctly different in that it had a more vinegar-based tang. –Texas Heat was ULTRASPICY!!! — watch out if you’re a lightweight. It’s closer to a pepper sauce than to traditional BBQ, with minced hot red pepper and crushed black pepper. It was so spicy it made my mom cry(and she’s no lightweight). I like spicy sauce, so this was my favorite!!! Another thing that was true from other reviews is that the staff is very friendly. We were constantly checked upon while dining. The restaurant has a very large dining area which would be great for large family parties. It was a shame that it was virtually empty, which I think is a product of the location. If this place were 20 miles north of its current location, I’m sure it would have been crowded. I went with family so I was able to try many items. I had the 2 meat plate — 11.99, which is a fair price in my opinion, but it did not include a drink. I would have liked to try the sweet tea but didn’t feel like going outside my budget. I still got a lot of food for the price. This is a great place overall, I would recommend a stop here for Garland residents or people visiting Garland. I’ll come back again when I get a craving for good BBQ.

I’m starting to not trust helpers anymore after tonight. This place is way overrated It’s Saturday night at 6:30 and I’m the only one here. The Mac and cheese was good and so was the sweet sauce. The sausage is still Eckrich(which I actually like but I can make that at home) and the beef had almost no BBQ or smoke flavor. The staff was nice and I always feel bad writing a negative review for nice people but in the end its about the meal

Double S Texas BBQ had just opened back in September of 2012 in an old shopping center near 635 and Northwest Highway. The sausage was Eckrich so I skipped that although they are working on a recipe and ordering a grinder to make in house sausages. I ordered the two meat plate but be careful… ribs are an additional $ 2. Two meats and two sides for $ 15 is pricey considering the deal we had at Hutchin’s in McKinney the previous day. The brisket lacked of pecan smoke from the gas assisted Olé Hickory smoker. Brisket also lacked of bark as pitmaster Darren begin to scrape it off when he unwrapped the meat. There didn’t appear to be much to start with regardless and there was very little seasoning also. The ribs were quite unique with a pronounced flavor of cayenne, cumin and a sweet glaze, though missing the smoke as well. The texture almost seemed as if they had been boiled for a bit. Wanting to see Double S succeed, Darren asked what I thought. He seemed genuinely interested in my pointers, saying he could work on them and appreciated my input. I complimented the ribs and said I looked forward to trying the handmade sausage soon. On this visit, I would have to deal a 2 star rating with it close to a 3 star. I hope these adjustments can be made for the betterment of the Garland, TXBBQ scene.

Visited this BBQ place for the first time today & it was delicious. I ordered a chopped beef bake potato and the sucker was huge. I could only eat about a 3rd of the potato. I think this is the best one I have had so far. The prices are very reasonable. As soon as I walked in I was greeted. It was very pleasant inside. When I made it home I said I should have ate my lunch their but I ended up coming home. I have finally found a good BBQ in the garland area.

I saved my 100th review for this place! This place is delicious! They have warm BBQ sauce and three different flavors to appeal to all taste buds. Those that like sweet, heat and both together. The mister said the beans are the best he has had ever had. The deviled eggs had brisket meat in them which gave them a funky color but they tasted off the hook! Definitely will go back!

My wife and I decided to try this place for lunch yesterday, as we had business in the Garland area. I had read all the prior reviews, and was hesitant to try Double S BBQ because of the two most recent reviews here on Unilocal, but went anyway. We certainly were pleased that we decided to give it a try ! In this particular review, I am allocating the elusive and cherished final 5th star for the OVERALL dining experience at this restaurant, including a variety of intangibles that factor into my rating in subtle undertones. A singular example of what I am talking about as an «intangible» is the fact that this establishment offers customers a variety of THREE different types of BBQ sauce. While many places these days offer only ONE type of sauce with a «take it or leave it «type attitude, and other places take the lazy and«snobbish» position that — «really GOODBBQ does’nt NEED any sauce«- at THIS place you get to suit YOUROWN individual taste preference with CHOICES between Sweet, Spicy or Hot flavor. It might seem like a tiny consideration, but it translates into carrying more inventory expense, more waitstaff & cook preparation time expense(because all sauces here are served hot) to prepare & set everything up every day before opening, etc. This one tiny example reflects a business owner that really CARES about his customers and what they want to eat ! We arrived about 11:30 A.M. just as the lunch crowd was starting to trickle through the doors. When I asked the counterservice girl at the cash register about their ribs, a very savvy young manager/cook(standing in the kitchen behind her) passed a single rib in a small container through the serving window for her to give me a sample hot off the grill ! Very smart & unexpected move on his part ! Needless to say, I ordered the bbq ribs with a double side order of the BAKED beans, with corn muffins and my wife ordered the«Lunch Special» of a chopped brisket sandwich with one side order(pinto beans) and a beverage for $ 7.99. (again — offering another taste CHOICE preference of Baked or Pinto beans) My ribs were delicious, and they were extremely tender with the meat almost falling off the bone. The ribs were moist, had a faint and subtle smoke taste and just a hint of a pink smoke ring. The rub used on the ribs had a good flavor and a distinctive taste similar to that of a Grand Champion Pittmaster at a different establishment in another city. My wife enjoyed her chopped brisket but said it was a little bit dry — my bad — because I forgot to tell them she prefers the moist or fattier brisket meat when I ordered her meal. She liked her pinto beans very well, and I LOVED the baked beans that had enough brisket mixed into them to be able to taste it ! Our corn muffins were very fresh, had real kernels of corn in the batter, and had a hint of sweetness that balanced the flecks of jalepeno found in them nicely ! Throughout our meal, we REALLY enjoyed listening to some truly great & classic old«Country Gold» tunes as well as a nice blend of more contemporary country music courtesy of the owner spending the money for a Pandora app ! Great tunes from George Jones, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, etc. etc. ! Our iced tea tasted very fresh, and the service was absolutely GREAT, with the waitress checking on our table frequently for anything we might need ! My wife informed me that the restroom was very neat and clean, and she looks forward to coming here again ! This restaurant is very new(about six months old) and just starting to get noticed. I think the prices here are very reasonable for the generous portions provided, and I think this place serves some of the best bbq in the Garland area. I will definately be returning here to eat soon and often now that I know about it ! We met Sam(the owner) and found him to be a very nice, unassuming and«down to earth» type of guy. He came by our table and sincerely thanked us for our business and asked if everything was to our satisfaction. Truly above & beyond«the call of duty» as a business owner, and a gesture that we truly appreciated ! I heartily encourage my fellow UnilocalERS to give this place a try when your taste buds want BBQ, and drag a couple of friends in there with you ! lol. The owner is a daddy of THREE like myself, so I know your business will be GREATLY appreciated !

I have no idea what the positive reviews are about. The place is confusing since they have a huge sign that says BBQ but a tiny sign above the doort. I ordered the ribs, brisket, potato salad and was forced to get unsweetened ice tea since they did not offer diet soda of any sort. The brisket and ribs were tender, but bland. Honestly it tasted like someone boiled the meat and slapped it on the grill. No flavor, not a hint of smokiness. The spicy BBQ was good. Coleslaw was just okay and same with the potato salad. Overall it was a mediocre BBQ experience and wished I ate at Spring Creek instead. The place is clean and the service is very friendly. Honestly, I wouldn’t come back.
