On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Well finally they have gotten a wonderful TO GO person who is on top of her game! Bri actually checks your order before handing it off! She’s quick, friendly and consistent. I haven’t had a bad experience with her yet. She is literally the only reason I’m still a customer.
I still refuse to dine in with all the incompetence that goes on. There have been WAY too many bad experiences there. Management is unusually poor at this location. Food is always on point.

So I went to On The Border to celebrate my sister who died birthday… Worse experience I think I ever had:. I eat out everywhere… So there was a guy behind our table who was drunk and his server was telling him what the rules of establishment were… Now man was drunk… His server bent down to talk eye to eye with him… The man then stood up, threatened him, has his fist ready to hit him… And the young man went got him another beer all the while telling him what the policy says… Man was irate and would not calm down… At that point as a sever what do you do… See I understand customer service… I got that… I feel like the whole experience become hostile and I did not know if I was going to have to fight to eat in peace… Horrible feeling. the establishment continued to bring this drunk man beer after beer and whatever they wanted was on the house… He and his wife were drunk, and I understand the manager Amy Garrett says she did not feel like he was… He had his son with him and God forbid he goes out and kill someone as ON THE BORDER CONTINUED TO POUR BEER DOWN HE AND HIS WIFE… Poor choices. Poor professionalism… I felt threatened mysełf… I do not feel like I will be returning to on the border Tyler:. If this is what is taught to give customers anything as they are always right… Even if they threaten you, not my type of business…
And at the end of the day… The server lost his job
And the drunk driver… As he was RIGHT… And given multiple beers… And could have killed me was let out on the road to kill or Injure others compliments of

My mom and I like to eat Mexican food so we go to on the border. We wanted to sit outside, so someone brought us menus. 5 minutes later someone brings out chips, 5 minutes later here comes our server. Should not take 10 minutes to just greet us. Besides that it was great service. Come on get it together on the border!
You have two minutes to greet the table!

I stopped in for happy hour 515p today and the bar area was out of control. Almost 75% of the business was in the bar area. I asked for chips 4 times before the MOD came out and brought some to me. Jacob, the bar tender, was swamped and no one else seemed to care. After I asked to speak to the MOD… help finally arrived. Jacob and Jennifer took control and got things smoothed out and the good times started to roll. It’s pitiful that management is not paying attention to thier bar tenders and staff. I watched the hostess and another female play patty cake at the front door when one if them could have pitched in and eased the stress in the bar area. If my tip would have gone directly to Jacob, I would have dropped double what my tab was, but I’m not going to leave a large tip when it is to be shared… really. I will be in touch with corporate to let them know that this location would do so much better, if they have stronger managers and not the weak one that I spoke to. I will go back no doubt about it. Oh by the way… I never saw the MOD again after she brought me the chips.

This used to be my favorite on the border location however the service has gone down to the point of my vowing not to return… simple things– like serving a drink in a clean glass and providing small plates when you order nacho’s to share. not being made to feel like you are a pain in the ass when you ask for extra napkins– anyway– i seldom leave poor reviews but OTB northwest highway– you’ve earned it!

Arturo was our server and he did above and beyond service today. From someone in the service industry to another, I was so impressed! We will be back for sure! Thank you for my many sweet teas

HORRIBLE. I have came an hour before close and still don’t have my food a few minutes before close. The bartender was slow as ever and kept calling me «sweety». Will never be back to this location. The Chilis down the road is WAY better.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! First, all of ours orders were brought out wrong. Once they served us, the waiter never came back, not once. Then when we asked for the check, he took forever. I’ve never seen such an establishment still in business. Sitting here wondering why I didn’t read reviews prior to deciding on this place for lunch.

Drandre is a terrible waiter, slow to serve and got our orders wrong. Maybe he needs more experience.

Writing Unilocal reviews for chain restaurants may be kind of silly, afterall, it’s not like I can offer any stunning discovery’s for people. Everyone already knows what On the Border is and what the food offers. However, some restaurant locations are better than others and I think that is what I should speak about here.
This location is conveniently located for us on the way home from Church, so we will stop here for lunch every so often. Seating is normally prompt, the location is clean, and chips & salsa are brought to the table quickly.
And that is about where it ends.
On multiple visits with multiple wait staff, service has been slow, food has been slow out of the kitchen, refills have been slow on both drinks and chips, and overall left a «meh» on my face. As for the food itself, I would rate it a solid 5 out of 10, but since Unilocal is only 5/​5, I will give it a 3. Not great, not terrible. Just. predictable.
In a place like North Texas which is literally full of some of the nations finest tex-​mex, you are sort of wasting your money at a place you could also eat at in New York City. Know what I mean?
As for OTB in Garland… the tortillas were hot and good… when they finally arrived, but service and timing her hurts the overall experience.

Slow service, dirty restaurant, bugs! Don’t eat here! The servers are lazy and the management doesn’t care! One of the worst restaurants I’ve ever seen!

Went to sit down, waiter said our chips and salsa an queso would be right out…
waiting… Asked and more then 40 minutes past… Main entrée comes out with queso but no chips? The lady who makes the chips took 40 min to bring out cold stale soaking in grease chips…
Sent it back and waited another 20minutes.
Manager didn’t charge us for for queso even though we used a free queso coupon.
Food has still been horrible the last 20 times.
The flour tortillas are wet and soggy with the fajitas.
The ranch is still sour.
Food just hasn’t been the same since 2012.
Every time I think it’s improving it gets worst.
The new menu items are okay.
Lately have gotten the Dos Equis fish tacos I have had this now … More than 500 times haha… Last 16 years.
Im going to stop getting it since the last 50 times have been horrible and start just getting the soup. The soup is good.
The nachos are good.

Seated immediately; chips & salsa arrived soon thereafter. I ordered the new Grilled Shrimp Border Bowl. It looked wonderful. It took a little longer than I thought it should have but my server, Tara, was making sure they added the grilled onion I ordered but they forgot. I went on FREE Queso day and I was so busy w/​that that I was happy waiting on my entrée. Tara made my visit special. I shall return **They’ve discontinued the weekend brunch.**

This location has the slowest service I’ve ever had in my entire life and it wasn’t even busy. I will never return to this location. Come on guys, you have to do better. I’m surprised your still In business. You took so long I contemplated leaving but I had already paid for my nieces «to go» order.

Went here for lunch on a Saturday and got seated immediately. They weren’t very busy, in fact our section was almost empty. One of the waitresses brought us chips and told us our server would be with us shortly. We waited 20 minutes and nobody came up to us, even though 2 managers and 2 servers passed by us more than once. I could understand if they were busy but we were a table of 3, and a table of 6 came in and got their drinks and a server immediately so we left.

Service sucked, our waiter was no where to be found most of the time. The food was good although my boyfriend got the «grilled enchiladas» which dissapointingly was a burrito. I was also upset that the only flautas on the menu were an appetizer. Our brisket queso was amazing. I now prefer going to smaller, family owned, Mexican restaurants (like Dos Banderos, only 23 $ for us both) to On The Border.

Visited on a Sunday. Had mango strawberry margarita, club queso and the three sauce fajita burrito.
Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful.
Christian our waiter was very helpful and patient.
Thoroughly enjoyable lunch.

Wow I have to say this location has the worst GM or Manager. Because they have horrible service. Came once like a month ago. Was happy cause it was my first time trying it. Host took like 6 minutes to seat us down. Took 15 minutes to even get a server in our table. Yea from being excited to being pissed so fast. Came again like a week ago and again the same thing happened to us. Like I don’t know if it’s my skin color or they just don’t want to get money. I’m a great tipper. The food was good. Overall I’m not going back to this location. Someone needs to fire the person that hires this people or trains them!

Food… Okay,
Wait time isn’t much.
But waiting an hour for chips isn’t. The best that can happen.

I normally don’t eat at big chain places but I liked the food and service here. The free salsa and chips were delicious. I loved my cheese and onion enchilada! The pork tamale was awful. My beef taco was good. The service was excellent I liked this place enough for 4 stars even with the not good pork tamale.

Being close to home, we have dined several times, always hoping we were catching them on a bad day. But we have never has a good day there and I have to say we’ll never go back.
On the last trip, the service was terrible. Like they didn’t even know we were there. When I finally said something, there was a debate about which waiter’s table we were at. This last time was worse than ever, but it has never been good. The wait staff was not friendly nor efficient. When the food finally did arrive, it was cold.
Really can’t give above 1 on this place. Like they say: Eek! Methinks Not.
